Summary
Der Freischütz wasn't supposed to be a tragedy. It was a story of love, a story of hope.
They forgave Max because he was backed into a corner. People do some pretty stupid things when they're desperate, right? Surely there were extenuating circumstances. Surely he's worth saving in spite of everything.
And then there was Kaspar.
Light has triumphed over the darkness, they sang, as he lay dying in the background. What a beautiful, romantic ending, they said, shoving his body under the rug to rot.
No one ever asked if he wanted this. No one ever asked how he got here, to the point of selling his soul, to the point of cursing a friend, to the point of death. No one ever asked if he was worth saving, too.
So let's be sad about him together :DOr, to put it simply: Kaspar backstory

It's somewhere between the Der Freischütz opera and the Lobotomy Corp version of the story. ie, everything goes horribly wrong. Because why would I just let them have a happy ending why on earth would I ever do that :,)
