Summary
“You know I want kids, right?” John asked her one night in bed.
“I know,” she said quietly. “You’re the only person in the world with whom I could imagine having children.”
The utter relief in his voice was unmistakable. “Good. Didn’t want this to go too far if we didn’t agree on that.”
She nodded and curled into him, feeling at ease in her decision as long as he was there for her.
He wanted two children, and she understood why without his needing to state it explicitly. They talked about having a boy and a girl. He suggested a dog as well, but the domesticity was getting to be too much for her, and anyway, what John was more than a dog person was a father.

Summary
XFVCU, which stood for X Files: VCU (Violent Crimes Unit), was a virtual series that Deslea coordinated in 2003, picking up the story eighteen months after The Truth. A lot has happened - the planned colonisation has been exposed, the alien race appears to have withdrawn, and the entire period of the X Files history from 1990-2003 has been exposed as the surface layer of a deep cover operation to fight the conspiracy. The citizenry are reeling from the news, and hybrids and test subjects are objects of fear, curiosity, and legislative debate. Paranormal cases are on the rise while the conspiracy unravels.
Now, the team - including deep cover agents like Krycek - are left to pick up the pieces. Their work has legitimacy, but it also has the spotlight. They're still players in a game, but whose game is no longer clear. The compromises of the war have taken their toll, too. Just because people share a side, doesn't mean they agree.
The series ended after seven episodes due to a death in the family. However, each episode is a self-contained casefile that can be read on its own.

She raised her chin again, but her eyes were as soft as her voice: “I heard some of... that.” She said, indicating out there.His nose twitched, displeased, embarrassed: “It won't happen again, Agent Reyes.”
She dismissed it with a wave of her hand. “Oh, I don't care.” She took a moment to collect her thoughts again. “But it is curious, Detective, wouldn't you agree?”
She put one hand on her hip, the other tapped the table absently.
“I'm not the only Fed who does monsters. Not by a long shot. But I am the only woman, specifically trained for it. Couple of guys I know have female partners but... they come as a pair, almost always, in such cases. I'm on loan to everyone. Just me. Just little ol' Monica."
Her smile was amused: “And where do they send her?”
John's scowl deepened: “To the wolves.”
