“Thanks,” Dan said. He wasn't sure why but it felt like at least part of it seemed to not be meant as an insult, if only a small fraction. Maybe it was West growing on him or the unease generated by this strange situation, or even the fact that it would be the two of them in close quarters for the next few weeks and he'd have to get used to it, but Dan was no longer feeling the sense of annoyance he had upon first meeting West. It was as if he had some feral cat, hissing and spitting at him, and all he could do was just smile helplessly at it, fond of its terrible self.

Summary
