Summary
Gintoki was so close and yet so far away. They didn't belong to the same timeline anymore. Hijikata's reality wasn't Gintoki's reality anymore. All his memories of him, all the loud quarrels and the calm moments under the stars, the intimacy when they shared a futon and the complicity when their legs tangled under the sheets, when their lips connected - all of this didn't exist in this verse, and Hijikata could only mourn the loss of memories that were nothing more than a fantasy in his head. It was a strange kind of pain, one some sake couldn't numb.
Or the one where Hijikata is the one to go back in time to bring drinks to the Joui, but seeing Gintoki from a distance is harder than he thought it would be.
