Catch-and-release practices are encouraged in recreational fishing to prevent damaging local aquatic ecosystems and preserve fish populations. It is a process as simple as its name: you catch, and then you release. You unhook the barb from the fish's mouth, take your photo, and then gently slide the fish back into the water. You celebrate your prize, but you do not keep it.
