“With intent,” she asks, taking his hand back. “By someone that wants you that you want?”
He squeezes her hand. It’s too hard, he sees her flinch, but he can’t loosen his grip. “Maybe…” He flicks his eyes up to hers and then looks away in shame. “Maybe not.”

“It’s Buck's birthday today.” Chimney relayed to their Captain who in turn snapped his eyes to Buck in horror.
“What!?”
Buck couldn’t help but flinch at his tone.
“I don’t understand why you didn’t tell us though?” Eddie said quietly.
Buck glanced over at his best friend who was looking equally confused and sad. He was almost glad that Bobby stormed away from the group, distracting him from Eddie's almost too soft gaze.
Eddie, and his warm chocolate eyes had a way of just undoing him where he stood, and right now he was barely holding himself upright enough.“You’re all making this into a bigger deal then it is…really.” Buck tried protesting, but it was weak and thin and he knew it.
“Actually, I don’t think you’re making a big enough deal of it.” Eddie shot back, the heat of brewing frustration thick on his tongue.

Buck’s birthday (a day he has entirely forgotten about) rolls around and the 118 find out they've actually managed to miss it the last few years. Of course, the firefam do everything they can to make sure Buck understands how loved he actually is.
