“In my experience, when someone won’t answer your texts, they don’t want to see you,” Zepile says in a sympathetic, self-satisfied voice that means “you’ll understand when you’re older.” Which is ridiculous because thirty is not so far from twenty-one, and Zepile doesn’t understand anything about Kurapika.
Irritation scrambles up Leorio’s throat on wooly legs. He glugs down his beer in an attempt to drown it. The beer is lukewarm and watery, but he can’t complain. It’s on a two-for-one special.
“Yeah, well, I don’t give a shit what Kurapika wants,” Leorio says. It comes out louder than he meant, and the bartender glances over at them with a raised eyebrow. Leorio’s face is warm in the faux-sunburn way it gets when he’s toeing the line between sober and tipsy. His tongue feels heavy in his mouth. “If he’s ghosting me, he’ll have to tell me so to my face.”

Summary
The difference between a marshmallow and a video of your close friend masturbating is that a marshmallow can only be eaten once. A video, however, can be enjoyed as many times as you please.
Watching the video becomes Kurapika’s bedtime routine. He grows familiar with it, memorizing timestamps the way you might memorize a neighbor’s face. At 1:03, Leorio takes his dick out. At 3:01, he plays with his nipples. At 4:04, Leorio jostles the camera, revealing his mouth for six seconds before he notices and adjusts the angle.
Kurapika watches those six seconds like he’s studying scripture. Replays them so often it becomes a meditation. Watches for the quirk of a smile when Leorio moves to adjust the camera angle, not embarrassed exactly, but a little shy.

He meets familiar people to whom he is completely foreign.
He has been completely removed from his power, his plans, and any sense of forward movement he had been experiencing not even last week. Even worse, he's being treated as a slightly unsettling presence.
