"Right. So he isn’t a home wrecker. This is totally normal. He just has to knock.
Gerard takes the next step up to Frank’s door. Only it swings open before he can even untuck his hands. Revealing Frank fucking Iero. His hair is getting long again, but he’s gelled it all back from his face making the curls fluff behind his ears. The sweater he’s wearing is the ugliest thing Gerard has ever seen. A knitted Christmas sweater with Santa flipping off anyone who might see, flying across a dizzy pattern of triangles. At the bottom is says ‘Ho ho fucking ho’.
“Are you trying to give me a seizure? Jesus fuck. That sweater…” Gerard wheezes and dramatically closes his eyes before Frank can even say hello.
“Wow, what happened to ‘hello?’ Or ‘sorry for creeping on your doorstep for five hundred years’?” Frank whips back as fast as ever. The man looks delighted when Gerard cracks an eye open. Those hazel eyes growing warm and dark, cheeks stretched up until they clearly hurt from his smile."

"The only reason he’d joined this club was because of his daughter. She was eighteen. She was going to college. And Gerard was single for the first time since he was in his mid twenties. At fifty he was a year into his divorce and friendless. Well that wasn’t true, but his closest friend was happily married still so he could only nod his head in sympathy to the woes of being single again. His brother was also married and while he’d been divorced before, he didn’t fall into the recluse genes of their family.
Gerard had tried the rebound thing at first, but it had not felt like when he was twenty. Now he was just…lonely.
So his daughter had forced him to join the most embarrassing group at the library; Divorced Dad Club. That was its real fucking name. DDC. Though the gender enforcement was more lax and queer (this was Los Angeles after all), the name was awful. Gerard Way feared he was also one of the oldest people at the meeting."

The one where Gerard is middle age and divorced and Frank is middle age, divorced, and in his slut era. Some might call this a meet-cute, I call this self-indulgent smut.

"Gerard is pretty grateful that his brother absolutely did not want to stay with him (which went kind of like ‘is Frank going to be there? No thanks’) and Ray had politely declined. It’s not that he doesn't want them in his house, they’ve been over a thousand times, but it does make having Frank to himself a lot harder. So when they both file out after dinner he’s relieved.
It’s just that he’s kind of been waiting for just a moment to have this. Between holidays and distance and other obligations to bands and art he’s only seen Frank once since everything happened. He’d flown his ass to Jersey and blown Frank in the car (though the resulting cramp in his back had maybe made it not worth it).
And now they’re alone. No kids. No family at all."

Summary
Part 3 of shameless smut for jdlowkey — Gerard has some choice words for Frank after his onstage smooch with Charlie.
It’s not even because Frank kissed somebody. Whatever, it’s a free country, Frank can plant one on whoever he wants. It’s the look he gives Gerard from across the stage afterward. That long, pointed stare before he turns away, like he knows exactly what he’s doing.
The whole thing was deliberate, and that’s what pisses Gerard off the most. Frank wasn’t just kissing Charlie for the laughs, he was sending a message. Gerard isn’t sure what that message is, but he figures they can skip the whole cold shoulder routine and Frank can tell him what the problem is to his face instead of pulling cute little stunts just to be an asshole on purpose.

He forgot about the beer in his hand. He forgot that he needed to go check the frayed leads on his own guitar before he went on. He forgot about the exam on Tuesday he hadn’t studied for and the show flyers he needed to photocopy at work the next day and all of fucking Jersey.
In that moment, though drunk and sloppy and barely intelligible through the awful mix, Frank knew he was watching the birth of an immortal.
Frank agrees to help find Mikey Way's new band its first show.

They were a few feet away from their destination when Frank stopped dead in his tracks and dissolved into a fit of uncontrollable giggles. Gerard shot him a curious look over one shoulder.
“It’s just, like,” Frank said, trying to reign in his laughter. The whole thing was just totally fucking absurd. “It’s like we’re in our own version of the time loop, ya know?”
That made Gerard crack a smile. “Life imitates art, I guess.”
