    Summary

It’s weird, the way Robby’s sizing her up, like he’s figuring out the angles of approach, running differentials in his head.

Thirty-two-year-old doctor, lonely and stubborn and needy. Complicated, closed-off, grieving. Does she want to be fingered? Eaten out? Fucked into the mattress with her head buried in a pillow so she can forget who he is?

    Summary

“Sometimes I talk to Robby, and I understand him more than I understand myself,” Samira said.

She felt Jack nod. “That doesn’t surprise me,” he said, his voice muffled against her shirt.

    “And then sometimes I don’t.”

“That doesn’t surprise me either.” Samira could tell he was smiling. “You two are a lot alike.”

“Is that why you’re with me?” she asked.

there is always a special place in my heart for well made throuples. the longing Samira experienced made me feel all kinds of giddy, may I be lucky enought one day to find not one but two respectful men to be this obsessed about. spectacular chemistry and character base for all of them.

so good. oh i love to see their early relationship being studied through the prism of the sex, all the intricacies you can catch by seeing someone being vulnerable, caring, spaced out.

“Do you want to know how it feels?”

Shane let his hand fall back to the couch. He pushed himself up onto his elbows and lifted a brow at Rozanov. “What – holding the Cup? You’ve already made that joke once.”

“No.” Rozanov’s fingers encircled Shane’s wrist and then he was pulling Shane’s hand between his legs.

    Or: Shane tops.

    Summary

In this the inaugural letter, we’re talking about Hanya Yanagihara’s A Little Life, a book I hate so much it gives me energy. In the words of Dylan Moran, I have to wake up early in the morning to hate that book properly. I have to be a reply guy to any of my mutuals who are reading this book. I have, in fact, to take to blogging because my friends hang up on me when I start talking about it.

    Bookmarker's Notes

I have never been happier to read a hate speech in my life. Most of the time when I don't like something I just don't give a shit about it and move on with my life — but the amount of praise this book got just didn't sit right with me. And I finally understood why.

one of my favorite passages from there:

"What this means is: typically the job of original fiction is to create characters readers care about – even if what we care about is their downfall. The job of good fanfiction is to be faithful to characters readers already know and care about – it needs to be ‘in character’ or ‘IC’. However, the job of fanfiction is not to create investment in characters. You’re reading fanfiction, after all – you bring your investment with you.

So when I say ‘this feels like fanfiction [derogatory]’ about a novel, typically what I mean is: this author does not act like it’s their job to create characters I care about."
