Summary
Looking down at the bottle’s label like he’s reading the countdown clock on a bomb, Eddie says, “Buck.”
“Eddie.”
Said Eddie huffs. Buck suspects he also had to fight back the urge to stomp his foot with that one. “I don’t need… I’m fine. It’ll go away in a couple of days; it’s only when I stretch weird, anyway, so—”
“Or, hear me out,” Buck interrupts coolly, “you could, I don’t know—relax? A few bubbles won’t bite, Eddie.” Then, softer: “It’s a muscle soak. It’ll help, I swear.”
Eddie holds out the bottle and points at it despairingly. “Citrus jamboree,” he whines.
“It’s a party,” Buck shrugs.

Summary
Something changed for him in New Mexico. On his knees in the dirt, cradling Buck's head, Buck's dirty hair against his palm and his pulse thudding against Eddie's fingers, which he couldn't pull away even though Buck was awake, smiling dazedly under the blood and the bruises. Something changed then. Cracked open. He could patch it up, probably. He's good at that. He's done it before, plenty of times.
Under his hands, Buck breathes, warm and alive.

Summary
Something’s shifted.
Eddie feels it in the way he carries himself, with a weightlessness that didn’t use to be there. He sees it in the carefree smile reflected in the mirror. He catches it in the way Chris looks at him sometimes, when he thinks that Eddie isn’t paying attention and that he can get away with dropping the mask of his teenage indifference.
He notices it in the way he is around Buck. In the looks that he lets linger, in the orbital pull towards him that he doesn’t try to resist, in the tug in his chest whenever he’s out of sight, and in the luminous warmth that replaces it whenever he comes back.
Eddie finally lets himself think about it.
