Summary
Marianne had been given one of her least favorite work tasks: take the deposit to the bank. She never dealt directly with clients and was certainly not the one being paid in cash or given checks with amounts written on it that made her bashful. Why her?
She loses the opportunity to mope when the bank gets held up by an enigmatic duo. The robbers escape but Marianne can’t forget the gentle way the woman handled her – she never once feared for her safety.
Months go by and the memory starts to fade. There’s a new temp worker in the office and Marianne is in charge of training her; there’s something familiar about her but Marianne can’t quite place it...
