Zanka slipped in and out of focus, the smell of rot and poison thick in the cavernous air around him.
I lost.
The two words resonated in his head, in his core, in the stinging of his wounded leg and abdomen, over and over and over again.
I lost.
Above him, Jabber loomed over his shoulders, smiling with glee and dancing gracefully from foot to foot and messing around with Zanka’s beloved Assistaff while Zanka lay helpless on the ground, unable to so much as roll over.
…I lost.

Summary
His observations passed over Enjin and Riyou frequently, but he scrutinized them far less than anyone else. They were the ones who believed in him, who gave him the courage to climb out of the dank well he planned to rot away in. Trust came naturally between the trio, and Zanka understood that Enjin had known Riyou for far longer than he had. It made sense if they seemed closer to each other than they were to him. Zanka was nothing but logical. He knew better than to be jealous of such foolish things.
And then he stumbled upon Enjin braiding Riyou’s hair.
Zanka, the new guy, didn't get special displays of affection yet. He understood that perfectly. And that was fine, obviously. He didn't need special displays of affections, like hair braiding and head pats and stupid, warm embraces.

Or, Zanka is new to the Cleaners and can't help but notice the way Enjin treats him differently than Riyou.

Summary
Apophenia (/æpoʊˈfiːniə/)- the tendency to perceive patterns and connections between unrelated things.
In an effort to increase team spirit, Ted changes up the roommate assignments for away games, sticking Jamie Tartt and Roy Kent together in the hopes that they can put aside their differences. Doing so makes Roy contend with being a better captain and Jamie a better teammate. It also a shines a light on things that Jamie wants to stay hidden. Fortunately for him, Roy can’t let go of the feeling that something is wrong and when things get worse before they get better, Jamie has more than one person in his corner.
_________________In which loans aren’t terminated, James Tartt is the worst, Jamie is just trying his best but struggles with being pulled in two different directions, and Roy Kent proves that he is ride or die even for pricks he definitely doesn't even like.
