Continuation of my original Beauty of the sea.
Pirate Shunsui Kyoraku meets a merman (Jushiro Ukitake)
This next saga takes place ten years after the last chapter of the original story.
Kyoraku has officially retired from being a pirate. Starrk now runs the ship.
The idea of continuing this story came from a friend @Dogblessya who wanted to know more about the mystery ship. (read the original) Two of the cats mentioned are loosely based on cat-sonas of Shunsui and Nanao as drawn by Shosha on twitter/x (catsui and catnao)Yes I know I left the chapter off at a weird place, but there's so much more that I want to write, this just felt like a natural breakpoint.

Summary
This entire story is based "about 1000 years ago", when Yamamoto's school was started, and Kyouraku and Ukitake were attending the Academy. It had lots of sword play, but it also has a very sweet shonen-ai sort of romance, which is denied by Kyouraku, between the two Academy boys.
This is an account of how Ukitake and Kyouraku got their shikai at the same time, so that no one could tell which one got it before the other, as Yamamoto told it. It's also got the beating that Yamamoto gave them, and more about what Soul Society was like back 1000 years ago. It has some historical facts in it, but is not entirely historically accurate. It also deviates from canon and from Unohana's origins. Please accept my apologies for any inaccuracies. Incandescens is my beta for this series, without her, this would not exist.

Summary

Junko and Josey (cestus) have long held a theory that there is canon evidence that Aizen is connected in some way to Kyouraku and Ukitake. This series is the beginning of that exploration.
As a bonus, these interconnected stories also tell a villain's origin story.
