Dustin grabs his bag and is just about to turn and leave Steve's house when he hears it:
A low thump coming from upstairs, and then another one, and the front door was locked and the driveway is empty, and Steve’s not expected back until much later, which can only mean one thing.
Someone’s robbing the place.
Dustin’s first thought is to call Hopper. But then his second thought, powered by pure curiosity, kicks in. He’s halfway up the stairs before he even realizes he’s on the move and yeah, this might be what Steve means when he says that Dustin causes emergencies.
In which Dustin suspects foul play, decides to investigate, stumbles upon something unexpected, and ends up getting everything he's ever wanted.

Ed’s used to visitors, though the novelty of his home has worn off in the last eighteen months or so, the uninvited guests becoming fewer and further between. He’s used to curiosity, and questions he rarely feels like answering. He’s used to people forgetting that this is, in fact, his home, and not some out of the way tourist attraction.
He’s used to strangers.
But he’s starting to think that perhaps, not all his visitors need to stay strangers.
or: Ed has a simple life. He has a self-built, off grid, mostly self-sustaining house tucked away in the middle of a forest. He has five chickens, and a partially feral cat.
