At only 26, Helena Burns became a veteran. After spending six years fighting for her country, Helena was honorably discharged due to a psychotic breakdown caused by PTSD. Unfortunately for her, the apocalypse began just days after she arrived back in the States. She had entered the apocalypse the same way she way she ended her old life — wounded, addicted to prescription meds, and alone.
Haunted by trauma, and stripped of structure and routine, Helena wanders the ruins without purpose. She needed something to live for. Else, she would wither away just like the undead who now claimed the world.
Deciding to push on, just as she had done her whole life, Helena searches for something to give her a reason to stay alive. A connection, some meaning — discipline in a world without rules.
A reason to live in the absence of orders.
Note: Helena is not going to be fragile and weak, despite her submissiveness to Rick and Daryl. I hope as you guys read, you can understand that she finds comfort in submission, but can still hold her own. She can still be brave and a protector, even if she allows herself to give up control occasionally.
