Chuck felt a slow burn of anger ignite deep in his gut. "There's lots of people who can't control their Gifts," he said slowly. "I happen to be one of them."

    Summary

The Ancients' genes didn't just confer the power to activate their technology. For ten percent of Earth's population, like John Sheppard, the ATA gene also gave them Gifts: special abilities that made them admired, envied, and feared.

Sheppard was a Charmer, one of the feared ones, whose particular Gift let him create faith whenever he needed to be trusted or believed. But Sheppard didn't trust himself not to destroy what he loved most. And somewhere along the line, amid the terror and chaos of the Expedition's first year in the Pegasus Galaxy, what Sheppard loved most had become Rodney McKay.

McKay didn't trust anyone. As soon as you started trusting people, you started counting on them, depending on them, and that was when you became vulnerable. And vulnerable things didn't survive. So just when, exactly, had he started trusting Sheppard?

And what was going to happen, now that he did?

    Summary

    Written January 2008.

"Parrish spoiled things for everyone the day a five-mile dash from spear wielding natives on P4A-332 ended in him throwing up and passing out in the gate room. Sheppard used it as an excuse for a vicarious health kick, implacably demanding gym attendance from everyone who – quite normally, McKay felt – got sweaty and faint from ten minutes on a treadmill. McKay had already sent twelve emails to Colonel Carter begging her to give Sheppard some real work. The man clearly had too much time on his hands."

    Summary

    Written March 2007

Off-world missions were hard on Sheppard’s clothes. On all of their clothes, really, but Sheppard’s seemingly more than everyone else’s. His were the shirts that got ripped by grazing bullets; the tac vests that got sliced by angry natives’ knives; the boots that got stained with ritual markings; and on one repressed occasion, the pants that got dissolved by primordial pond ooze.
