Summary
Annabeth wasn’t the nervous type.
She’d faced dracaenae twice her size without flinching. She’d walked straight toward a charging hellhound with nothing but a knife and a plan forming in her head. Strategy steadied her. Danger made sense.
A boy, apparently, did not.
Valentine’s Day was three days away. Camp Half-Blood had leaned fully into it this year. There were paper hearts strung between the dining pavilion beams, pink and gold ribbons tied around the torch posts, and some Apollo campers had been playing slow songs at dinner instead of their usual obnoxiously loud music. There was a couples archery competition, a stargazing night at the canoe lake, and a pasta making class. There was also a dance.
And Percy had said absolutely nothing. Not a joke. Not a sarcastic comment. Not even a confused why is everyone acting weird?
Which was worse.
He’d been at camp for nearly a week now, technically he was supposed to be in school, but he’d gotten suspended for two weeks.
So he was here. Available. Present.
And still oblivious.

The last place Clarisse wanted to be was stuck between whatever drama the Sea Twerp and Smart Girl had going on.
When the younger girl had whispered in her ear to pick anyone else other than the Son of Poseidon, Clarisse was a little intrigued. It wasn’t like Annabeth to walk around without her little guard dog by her side - something apparent from watching every capture the flag game since the Sea Twerp came to camp.
Or the 4 times Clarisse ends up stuck between Percy and Annabeth’s drama.

After a brief, fearful heart flutter, Percy gives her a sidelong glance of recognition. He might still be a little fearful. Sure, the town he and his mom live in now isn’t all that big, but what are the chances of someone else choosing to run on this particular backroad? He'd chosen the one the furthest away from the main road for a reason. “Fancy seeing you here,” he greets drily, not losing step in the slightest.
Annabeth Chase gives him a significant look. “Good runners choose good roads, I guess.”
OR - Annabeth's the girl who hardly ever loses a race, and Percy's the new kid who doesn't have time for track team. It's a love story waiting to happen.
