    “Look at me, please.”

“I can’t,” he replies without missing a beat, low and shameful, and she realizes then that the boy she spent her entire life trying to figure out is unraveling before her like a loose thread. Letting her see him the way she’s always caught glimpses of but never gotten to keep: Weak and small, wanting something entirely out of his control. For the first time in her life, Belly understands him so wholly she feels it down to the tips of her toes.

“Then don’t,” she whispers, “just stay here.”

Belly calls off the wedding after Conrad's surfing incident and they're forced to stay in the summer house for three weeks with nothing between them but the past they can't forget and the present they're too intertwined in to avoid.

    Summary

A year after Belly flees to Paris, Conrad invites Belly to spend Christmas at Cousins Beach. She arrives early, and finds that the house still feels like home—and that her heart still remembers him.

Over quiet fires, shared memories, and long-overdue conversations, Belly and Conrad begin to bridge the space between them. Just two people learning how to love each other better than they did before.

It’s a story of letters, stars, and second chances. Of love that disappears for a while—but always comes back.

    Summary

Belly Conklin has built a quiet life in Boston as a sports psychologist, helping athletes navigate pressure, fear, and heartbreak—while quietly carrying her own. Years have passed since she last saw Conrad Fisher, the boy who once held her heart and then let it slip away. She’s moved on. Or so she tells herself.

When a chance encounter in a bookstore brings Conrad back into her orbit, Belly is forced to confront the memories she’s buried and the feelings she never truly let go. As old wounds resurface and new sparks flicker, they begin to unravel the story they left unfinished.

    Summary

Lying on her back late that night next to Jere, Belly found herself staring at the ceiling of his bedroom and tracing her own lips with her fingertips. She’d brushed her teeth as usual, flossed, even used Jere’s strong mouthwash, but somehow she could still taste the soft-sweet flesh of those sun-ripened peaches on her tongue.

What if that was the moment that changed everything?

    Summary

Conrad knows their moms are downstairs now, making black eyed peas like his mom does every New Year’s Day. He knows that Steven and Jeremiah are three rooms over playing video games. He knows his condoms are down the hall in his bedroom and that there’s no way he can make it there and back completely undetected. He knows they’ve only done this twice before—and does it even count as twice if it was all on the same night?—and that this isn’t how he wanted their next time to go. At the very least, he hoped he could get her to a bed. But oh, does he want her again.

(Conrad and Belly have a history with the couch in the Fishers' rec room, and it's not just that she found him there the day of the funeral.)
