Summary
Akari and Irida had fallen in love.
Akari had to return home.
Irida wasn't going to let her go that easily.
Akari, now Dawn, may not be the Sinnoh League Champion for long if Cynthia has anything to say about it, but she isn't breaking Blue Oak's speedrun record, so she does need to do some champion duties.
May, after realising Steven and Wallace had spent so long flirt-sparring over the title that they had genuinely lost track of who the champion was, offers to fill in for them while they figure it out.
The Champion summit happens to fall in those scant few weeks.
And the past is such a tricky thing.
