“I’m sorry,” Soobin said as he placed a sytrofoam cup of black coffee between Yeonjun's feet and tried not to react to the way cigarette smoke stung his throat. “I shouldn’t have come to your house without asking. We’re coworkers and I completely stepped over—”
“No, you didn't. You didn’t do anything wrong... Listen, I–'' There was a heavy weight to Yeonjun’s voice suddenly, but Soobin didn't waver. “I didn’t want you to see any of that. I didn’t even want you to know where I live. Because I don’t– I just don’t want you to think of any of that stuff when you think of me. I don’t want you involved in any of that stuff.”
“Because we’re just coworkers,” Soobin attempted to clarify.
“No, not because of that.”
Yeonjun and Soobin meet the fall after they graduate from the same high school when Soobin picks up a part-time job at the worst coffee shop in town. Soobin is shy, sensitive, and quiet. Yeonjun is brash, loud, and guarded. Soobin's not Yeonjun's type. Soobin hates the Yeonjun from high school. So, why is Soobin the first person who catches Yeonjun when his life falls apart?

“Like what you see?” The younger man asked when Soobin’s gaze bore into his soul. But when Soobin didn’t dare to answer, he scoffed. “Right, as if you care about me.” He huffed, but there was no humor in his tone even in the slightest. Yeonjun kicked off his socks, movements loose, careless, before lying beside Soobin without bothering to take off his glittery eye shadow or any make up at all, or even changing his clothes that mustn’t be very much appropriate nor comfortable to wear during sleep. “You shouldn’t do this, you know,” Yeonjun said, slurring, definitely at least halfway drunk. “Waiting. Acting like—like you even care about me.”
Soobin’s chest tightened. He finally looked at him then, eyes wide. He sat up beside the boy who had collapsed on the mattress, arms thrown on top of his eyes. “I do care,” he said, rightfully so. When had he ever not care?
Yeonjun laughed, short and brittle. “That’s funny.” He didn’t bother to look at Soobin. “Because you’ve spent the last three months making sure I never feel it.”
