“Dazai feels Baby stir at Naomi’s shriek and only then realizes he's succeeded at rocking it to bed. He looks down at Baby and can feel his eyes widen, but doesn’t bother to fix them back to their calculated normal.
He did that. He was a comfort enough that such a traumatized child actually went to sleep on top of him, held in the same hands that used to harm so many people. That kind of blind faith is intoxicating. Maybe that’s why Odasaku had a billion of these things.”
