Vi gripped her vodka soda like it was the only thing tethering her to reality. Which, given the current state of things, it might have been.
Three hours ago she'd been on set doing her own stunts because Dad insisted—"You're a Lanes, we do our own work"—even though she'd been awake for thirty-six hours straight and could barely tell left from right. Two hours ago she'd been in her trailer doing lines with some producer whose name she'd already forgotten, her hand too high on her thigh, her phone buzzing with angry texts from Dad that she'd ignored. One hour ago she'd popped two pills that were supposed to be Adderall but definitely weren't, washed them down with champagne in the back of an Uber, and told herself she'd just make a quick appearance before going home to crash.
That was before she saw her.
