Summary
Peter Lukas takes a different, hands-on approach to keeping Jon away from Martin, to push Martin further into the Lonely. It has unintended consequences.
“I’m making a cup of tea, do you want one?” He calls to Melanie, and he frowns when she doesn’t respond. She must not have heard him.
Then he gets a chill, and the temperature in the room drops. He freezes. It feels like the chill that accompanies Peter Lukas at all times. He feels panic set in, expecting large hands to reach out and grab him at any moment. He shrinks back against the counter, and that’s when a large man enters the breakroom.
Jon doesn’t recognize him, because he didn’t turn on the lights in the hallway, and he didn’t turn on the overhead light in the breakroom, just the small light over the sink. The man’s face is in shadow, but he doesn’t need to see his face to be sure that it is Lukas. Jon’s body shakes, every part of him yelling at himself to move, but he remains rooted to the spot. Why is he here? Why is he back? Jon hasn’t come anywhere near Martin; what else could he have possibly done to draw Lukas’s attention? Is he looking for a repeat performance? Oh god.

Summary
Martin stands next to him on the train. His hand rests just beneath Jon’s where it grips one of the metal poles, and Martin takes care not to brush against him despite how crowded the car is. Jon considered telling Martin, when they first got on the tube, that it was okay—that his touch would be… well, it wouldn’t be bad. Not like Nikola's. But he’d stayed silent, allowing Martin to cultivate a careful space between them. They’ve been silent for the past twenty minutes as they’ve passed by station after station on their way to Martin’s flat in Brixton.
Jon adds 24 hours onto his mental countdown of the time he has left until he’s allowed to break down and tells himself that he can manage. It’s… important to have goals, he thinks. He splits this one into steps.
Step one: get to Martin’s flat without crying.
