Carla sends Lisa a photo of herself disheveled; her hair half up, make-up smeared over her eyes, prominent red marks from the cushions digging into her skin. She sends it with, “didn’t even make it to bed. passed out on the couch. are you alive?”
Lisa smiles at the message, “I’m alive. My head is throbbing.”
“felt that. had fun with you last night”
“I had fun with you too. It was a beautiful ceremony!”
“even better reception”
Lisa thinks she’s overthinking but simply likes the message then locks her phone. -

“No.” Carla lies with glassy eyes. “How was dinner with Betsy the other night?”
“It was– you are drunk. Carla,” Lisa reaches her hand out to touch Carla’s face but she steps back before the blonde can reach her. Carla gains the courage to look into Lisa’s soft eyes.
