    Summary

“Have you ever read To Kill a Mockingbird?” Clark asked, and his face was red as he did, but his heartbeat practically pounded like a drum in Bruce’s ears as he stared at this stupid, stupid human who tried to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders.

“No,” Bruce said, confused and so in love that it hurt. “But I can. In two seconds.”

“That takes the fun of it away,” Clark said in exasperation.

Bruce swallowed the lump in his throat. “Then… maybe you can read it to me. For - team bonding. Or whatever.”

In which Bruce and Clark are still heroes, but that’s the only thing that remains the same.

AKA, this just in: CEO Clark Kent of Kent Industries Saved by Gotham’s Superpowered Alien. Again.

    Summary

He took refuge in a dark alley, away from prying eyes, leaning against the damp brick wall. He gasped, the vapor of his breath mixing with the city’s toxic mist. He closed his eyes, trying to focus on breathing, on ignoring the stabbing pain.

The sound of a metal door shutting put him instantly on guard. His hand flew to one of his tools, senses alert. A figure stepped out of the back door of an adjoining building, lit by the dim glow of a neon sign that read "S.T.A.R. Labs — Research and Development."

It was not a threat. It was an omega.

He wore blue work coveralls, a little too big for him, and carried a trash bag in each hand. His posture was tired but calm. And his scent… God, that scent. He didn’t smell like Gotham. He smelled of something impossibly pure: freshly cut wheat under the summer sun and wild honey. A scent that cut through Bruce’s pain, paranoia, and fog like a shaft of light.

The omega saw him. He froze, his large blue eyes widening in surprise behind fogged round glasses. Bruce grunted, a low, instinctive warning from a wounded alpha. “Stay away.”
