    “Zhongli–”

The man in question shushes him, letting the hand on Childe’s chest trail upwards until a finger is pressed lightly against his lips.

“Before you answer, I suppose I should be honest with you,” Zhongli says, watching Childe with rapt eyes as the alpha draws the finger between his teeth, then lets it rest upon his tongue. A rumbling sound pulls from Zhongli’s chest before he continues. He pulls his finger from between Childe’s lips, lightly tracing a wet path down the side of his jaw.

“While mortal omegas in heat may only experience the instincts to nest and be bred,” Zhongli’s finger meets the underside of Childe’s chin, and then he takes the chin into a firm grip, clawed thumb digging into pale flesh. “I experience the instinct to devour. To claim. To control.”

Riveted, Childe’s eyes do not venture away from Zhongli’s for even a moment. He says nothing.

“So tell me, Childe,” Zhongli continues, releasing his hold on the other’s jaw, and leaning in further so that his lips brush the sensitive skin of Childe’s ear. “Is that something you can handle?”

    Summary

“No, no,” Childe hisses frantically. He glances down at his trembling hands and— sickly violet twists around his forearms like an ugly vine. Whatever this affliction is, it's interfering with his abyssal energy.

There’s no time to fret over it. Though numb panic sears through his nerves, Childe forces himself into motion, keeping his exhausted body moving through the next wave of attacks. Now aware of it, Childe can sense the corruption within him. It whispers in the back of his mind, it seeps into his bloodstream, it makes his limbs heavy as lead. Pure spite keeps him from succumbing.

Abruptly, the entity before him pulls out a lantern. Childe feels a gravitational shift as it begins to glow. Around him, the Wild Hunt summons begin to writhe. One by one they dissipate into fodder for the flames, the lantern growing ever and ever brighter. With resignation, too tired to move, Childe braces himself for the blow. The concentration of bright light peaks, and even behind closed eyes Childe can see the flare of it —

    — but the impact he expects never comes.

    -
Stationed in Nod Krai, Childe becomes afflicted by Wild Hunt corruption during a fight. Fortunately, Zhongli is more than willing to assist.

“Xiansheng, aren’t you going to try some for yourself?” Childe asks with a raised brow as Zhongli piles food onto her plate. Zhongli pauses mid-motion, her presumptuousness dawning on her.

Zhongli clears her throat. “Of course, but…” Provide for her. “Xiangling made these especially for you. It’s only right that you have a good portion of it.”

“I think I’m all set.” Childe sounds amused, but Zhongli almost pouts at the rejection. Why does this bother her so? Childe has more than enough for a filling meal. But something in Zhongli still wishes to give her more, to make sure that she will have energy to– oh. Oh.

“The loss of my lord’s gnosis has caused a,” Xiao deliberates, a particularly pinched expression crossing his face that would have amused Childe greatly were the subject at hand not Zhongli, “…regression, of sorts.”

    Childe prompts, “Regression?”

If possible, Xiao’s expression pinches further, but he doesn’t reprimand Childe for his interjection. “A regression to biological urges that most adepti have learned to adapt to and control by adolescence.”

    ______

    Summary

Yaoyao rustles in her pocket for a moment. “Alright, well I’ll give Zhongli the blindfold, and then the ‘rebels’’ countdown to hide will start. The countdown will show on your wristbands, and so will the game time afterwards.” She pulls out a simple black blindfold, extending the fabric to Zhongli. “Ready?”

“I am,” Zhongli says, but looks to the others for confirmation.

“Oh! Yeah, I guess?” Yoimiya says, exchanging glances with Childe and the Traveler.

    The Traveler shrugs. “Sure.”

“Yeah, I’m ready,” Childe says, watching Zhongli fasten the blindfold around his eyes. Somehow, the black fabric doesn’t make him look foolish, or any less imposing than before. It makes something in Childe’s gut burn, and he impulsively blurts– “Make sure you don’t go easy on us, Zhongli.”

Zhongli’s head swings toward Childe, and even through the blindfold Childe swears he can feel the weight of that golden gaze. Zhongli’s lips curve upwards. “I shall certainly endeavor not to disappoint.”

    _____

While on a reconnaissance mission in Mondstadt, Childe gets roped into a game of Snowtrace. He isn't expecting to see Zhongli.
