Summary
Aphere will find it deeply ironic later in life that this is the moment he decides to make rules.
They are six. Vivian has a brief crush on Magus. It shows in small, obvious ways. He follows him around. He asks him questions about school. He hovers until Magus gets annoyed and finally shuts a door in his face.
That night, Aphere declares authority.
They sit inside their blanket fort, the torch his only prop. He clicks it on and shines it straight into Vivian’s eyes. He shrieks and ducks, laughing and offended at the same time.
“Gross,” Aphere says, firm and serious. “New rule. Your best friend’s relatives are off-limits.”
Vivian groans. The fort collapses a little. The rule stands.
It is, for reasons that will become painfully clear, the start of everything.

George shrugs, his back resting against the cushion beneath him. “You looked tired.”
“You could’ve laid with me.”
“You weren’t awake to invite me into your nest.” He holds his hand out, urging his partner to take it.
Dream’s palm is hot to the touch when it greets his own, shaky fingers skimming over George’s wrist before the blond talks once more, his voice nearly inaudible. “You’re always welcome in my nest.”

Humans are banned from touching other species in the galaxy, but George, a cat-hybrid, takes a leap of faith and lets the human aboard his ship, Dream, pet him. It awakens a side of George he’s desperate to satisfy, and Dream is more than willing to meet all of George’s needs.

“Dream,” George whined, head butting his forehead against the side of Dream’s neck. “I just want to sleep. Please pet me until I fall asleep.”
George felt the way Dream’s breathing increased and his body temperature rose. The breathing thing was a bit annoying, since it moved George, but the added warmth was more than welcomed.
“Okay… okay, I’ll pet you,” Dream finally agreed, maneuvering the both of them until he could lay back in bed, holding George tightly to his chest. He hadn’t even resumed petting him before George started purring happily again, his tail curling around one of Dream’s legs in the process.
“Humans are… really warm, just like starlight,” George mumbled, his thoughts escaping him.
“George-” Dream paused, tangling his fingers in George’s hair. “Just go to sleep, baby. Get some rest.”

Summary
