Aaron Hotchner was 17 when he lost his magic.
It was Sunday, October 30th, 1983; he was three days from being free.
Three days until he was 18.
He remembers it vividly, every second, every hour, every night his dad came home, drunk and angry, leading up to that moment.

Cyphber Week 2024, day 2: trust
As it were, Cypher found himself plunging headfirst into the bottomless ocean that was Chamber’s presence. It was as though Chamber had broken through his barriers and crawled into Cypher’s very essence, leaving behind ruins and a glimpse of freedom.

Summary
Omen hasn't been the same since he killed Cypher. His team constantly reminds him that it wasn't his fault, that it was just an accident and none of them blame him for what he did, but he can't accept their forgiveness. Just like how he can't fully come to terms that Cypher is dead. He still feels the echoes of his lover, out there, calling to him from the void. He has to believe that Cypher isn't gone forever. He has to have hope.
Cypher can't give in. He hasn't cracked in seven months and no matter how many times they kill him, no matter how many times they torture him, he will not give in. Only one thing keeps him going. The hope that somehow, somewhere Omen is searching for him.
