It’s a starless night. With a bright full moon. And a phantom thief running around left and right.
“Stop right there, Kaitou Kid!”
With a little detective chasing after him.
After a loud shout from an elementary school kid, a soccer ball went flying to its white target. Said target smirked and twisted his body around, dodging with ease. His movement was flawless like he had practiced for a long time—it looked almost like he was dancing on the roof floor. Usually it would irritate Conan, however, today he only smirked just as evilly. Just as planned.
“Now, Growlithe, Flamethrower!”
“GROW!”
The puppy pokemon didn’t wait any second longer. He released the burning flame straight in the line, succeeding in startling the thief in white, who let out a silent cry and moved out of the way. In the blink of an eye, a pokeball appeared in his gloved hand. The younger child saw his pokemon’s attack was directed to the other way. And a lopunny now stood strong in front of the thief.
“Was that Mirror Coat? That lopunny is really something.”
“Why, thank you.” Facing the one and only opponent that matched him in every aspect, the thief and his rabbit gave the child a twin showman bow. Such thrilled! And he could command a pokemon like a fine grown-up, too. “That was close. Aren’t you too young to have a pokemon of your own, Tantei-kun?”
“He’s Shinichi nii-chan’s pokemon.” The boy said, looking deadpan one minute, before changing into a sharp prey-catching grin next. “And who says he has only one.”
“What?”
“Rowlet, Leafage!”
The nocturnal pokemon, silent and fast, suddenly appeared from his hiding place and went to attack. Magically energetic leaves whirled around the owl before pelting at the thief at once. A direct hit! And Mirror Coat couldn’t protect them from it, too.
But Kaitou Kid wouldn’t have been an uncatchable thief if a surprise attack worked on him easily, would he? Out of nowhere, a second pokeball was up in the air.
“Pidove, Gust!”
The wind blowing from the pigeon pokemon knocked all leaves down. He then flew next to his master and companion, waiting and guarding. The small owl-like pokemon turned to hover over his young charge, eyes determined just as much. Looked like he also found a rival tonight.
Now the boy could really look annoyed.
“Well, well. You are not the only one with a second pokemon, Tantei-kun.”
“Don’t I know that…” he muttered under his breath. “A bunny and a dove. Truly a magician’s assistants. You probably have more pokemons under your sleeves, too, for all I know.”
“Aren’t they lovely? As a magician, I can’t live without fine assistants, can I?”
“If you have pokemons, why didn’t you bring them out when I confronted you before? On the Black Star heist? And before that when I first met you on the roof of Hyde City Hotel."
“My, my, a magician cannot reveal all his secrets. Don’t you know?” The first time because it's better to flee and the second time it's because you sucked a soccer ball at me before I could do anything else! That, and because fighting would only bring attentions to him and make it harder to escape. Not that he didn’t think the boy didn’t know that. “I remember your Growlithe. Such a cute loyal pokemon you have there. Still, you didn’t bring your pokemons with you on the ship that time, too."
“Yeah. Because I thought it wasn’t necessary.” A lie. It’s actually because Ran forbade him bringing them to a party.
“Reall? But…,” While he’s smirking, his pokemons kept alert and caution through their relaxing pose. The small detective’s eyes and expression were still sharp and focused, so Kid couldn’t let his guard down yet. “Now you do. Right, Meitantei?”
And boy, he was right. Although the danger was from another sort. The sounds of running footsteps came closer behind the door bordering between the rooftop and inside the building. When the door was slammed open, revealing a marching group of Division 2 policemen leading by a furious Inspector Nakamori who shout.
“You have nowhere to go now, Kaitou Kid!”
“Wow, Keibu, congratulation on getting out of my trap. You are a bit late, tough.” The thief cockily showed the stolen jewel, a blue diamond “Midnight Dream” in his hand. “Now that I have captured this jewel, it’s time for me to leave.”
“No way you don’t! Loudred, Hyper Voice!”
The loudspeaker pokemon stepped up from behind his master’s back and shout his attack, which was promptly redirected by Lopunny’s Mirror Coat to his pin bowling-like subordinates. They shrieked and scattered around to avoid the sound-wave.
“Now it’s our chance! Growlithe, Thief!”
Growlithe leaped at the bewildered thief and snatched the diamond with his mouth before Kid’s fingers could close on it, fortunately not causing any harm on him. Pidove made a move like he’s going to go after Growlithe, but Rowlet interfered and stalled him. The puppy proudly put it in the boy’s hand and received a pat or two on his head as a reward.
“Good boy.” He turned to smile at the flying type. “You, too, Rowlet. Good job!” it made the owl proudly puffed his chest.
“…well done, Tantei-kun. Who would have thought you’d teach your pokemon steal from me? And I thought I was the thief here. Are you going to quit being a detective and start a new occupation?”
“It’s just a Move, you idiot!”
“Good to hear that. It’s not like I want to have more competitors.” Eyes not moving from his small rival, Kid recalled Lopunny back to her pokeball. “Now that my business is done here. It’s time for me to leave. Good day, officers. Bye, Tantei-kun. Until next time.”
On cue, Pidove used Gust again, knocking down some officers in the process. The wind was sure stronger than the first time. The boy brought both of his pokemons close to him and covered them with his body. When the wind stopped spinning, he looked up to find the thief was already gone. What remained was Nakamori-keibu loud ‘Next time I will catch you, Kaitou Kid!’ shout carried by the wind.
