I just want you to know that there won't be a strict schedule. When I try to, I usually get frustrated and lose my enthusiasm. I will try not to take a long time, but it'll have to come in time.

Chapter Text

There was no Warrior of Light.  There was no savior blessed by Hydelyn.  However, there was the Scions.  Men and women who worked tirelessly to protect the realm their master gave his life for.

Some time later, Louisoux’s beloved grandchildren, Alphinaud and Alisaie Levellieur joined the cause at a young age.  With their help, battles were being won.  However, the Garleans were working with the Ascians, thinking they could use them.  However, the Scions knew better.  They knew these mysterious, aethereal beings were the puppet masters.

Six years into his work, Alphinaud bit his lip at the latest reports and muttered to himself,  “There’s something not right with this place.”  His index finger tapped a location on the map in front of Minfillia, Urianger and himself,  “I believe they are working on something…  Whatever it is, it has gotten even the normal Garlean soldiers acting as if they were nervous to be there.  So what could it mean for us?”

His words made the blond hyur shiver.  She knew that Alphinaud was not a man to mince words, so she nodded lighty but frowned,  “Unfortunately, I don’t know what to do about it though.  We cannot get informants on the inside.”  A few moments of silence saturated the room, as the young elezen studied the map.  The location wasn’t very big and it should not even be able to hold even a small army.  If they could be incapacitated, then they could find out what they were working on and rid it from Eorzea.

A small quirk of the lips caught Urianger’s attention,  “Hove thou an idea, Master Alphinaud?”  It was really a rhetorical question.  He knew when the other’s mind was forming a plan.

“Sleeping potions.”  Alphinaud stated matter of factly, as he raised his head to the pair before continuing,  “Turn potions into gas form, with the help of the Alchemist Guild of course.  Then on a night when the wind is still enough, we use it on them.  I would actually guess that the base probably only holds somewhere around one hundred soldiers.  If the conditions are nominal, it should give us several hours to work with.

Alphinaud could have chosen a more permanent solution, he has had to kill in battle before.  However, to take their lives while they slept felt duplicitous.  An unfoathomable idea.  “I shall take a small group with me.  Capture any scientists we can.  Sneak in and destroy whatever is there.  With no scientists or anything to develop, it would cause the Garleans a grievious wound.

Minfillia seemed impressed and while it could not cripple the Empire, between them, the ascians and the primals, Eorzea would take any respite the realm could get.  “Alright, I shall contact General Raubahn.  If you would contact the Alchemist Guild.”  There was a momentary pause.  “But what of your sister?  I don’t imagine she would be very happy she would be happy with you being involved with an operation like this."

Alphinaud's eyes widened at the mention of his sister before responding in a hurried tone,  "I-I don't want her knowing at all.  I'm not delusional enough to believe that nothing will go wrong.  I'm willing to take responsibility for leading the operation, but if she were to find out, she'll want to follow.  Even if it's without our permission."

The slightly shorther elezen turned to his taller friend with a pleading look,  "Please, Urianger.  I wouldn't bear to have something happen to her.  I can deal with her being angry at me,"  His voice became solumn as he tried to finish, "But I can't..."

Taking pity on the young man, the older scion let off a soft sigh.  He did understand the familial love he held for his sister, and the female twin was impetuous.  Quick to jump into dangerous situations, while Alphinaud liked to formulate with care.  Finally, he conceded with a small bow,  "As thou wish, Master Alphinaud."

Notes:

I had been working on editing and figuring out what I wanted to do with this story, even working to get the second chapter done with the first draft. It's taken a long time, but a lot has been going on with me anyway.
