Chapter Text
She wasn’t exactly…unexpected. At least not in the “Oops we’re pregnant” way that most babies were unexpected. But the idea of having kids had never and probably WOULD have never been a possibility for them if Hiroki hadn’t been called in to fix some equipment at a random fertility clinic in Shizuoka.
During his last year of his 4-year program at university, Hiroki had sold the patent for his “connection bracelets” to Iida-tech of all companies. They had been so impressed with his design that they offered him a job straight after graduation. So for most of the last year he worked from home, working on designs and consulting. But a month or so ago, he had been added to a project dealing with new medical imaging hardware.
Hardware that was currently being used at said random fertility clinic.
Hardware that was being used…but that wasn’t exactly working at said random fertility clinic.
And rather than send a tech all the way down from Iida-tech’s Tokyo headquarters, the decided to call in one of the designers who happened to already live in Shizuoka.
So here Hiroki was. Walking into a fertility clinic, a glorified repairman, missing out on a much-needed date night with Sei.
“Uh…hello.” He said walking up to the front desk. “I’m from-“
“Iida-Tech?” A young secretary said curtly. Hiroki nodded.
“Go in there.” She pointed to a door that said administration.
“Uh…thank you.” He said awkwardly before shuffling through that door where he found another woman at a desk. This one older. She glanced up at him and smiled.
“Oh lovely! Are you here about the ultrasound thing?” She asked, standing up.
“Yea. I worked on the project at Iida-tech. I guess they thought maybe I could fix it?”
“Well I sure hope you can! I can take you right to it, I’m Yajima Megu by the way. But Meg is just fine. I started this clinic about ten years ago.” She motioned for him to follow her.
Hiroki furrowed his brows. That name was familiar. He must have seen it on some paperwork for the project.
“I’m Bakugou Hiroki. I only got put on the project like-oomf.” Hiroki’s statement cut off when he bumped into the woman who had stopped walking, frozen in front of him.
She turned slowly and looked at him with big eyes that trailed all over his body. Which totally wasn’t making him uncomfortable.
“Uh…are you ok?”
“Did you say B-Bakugou Hiroki?” She stuttered.
Ah fuck. The problem with sharing his name with his brother and dad was that sometimes people DID recognize it. He looked up to tell the woman that no, he couldn’t get her an autograph, but froze when he saw tears in her eyes. She reached out a shaky hand, touching his cheek, looking at him like he might not be real.
“I’m sorry, do I know you?” He asked, awkwardly leaning away from her touch. She brought her hand back and breathed a little gasp of disbelief, smiling.
“I see your brother on the news all the time but I…I haven’t seen you since you were born.”
“Since I was…” Hiroki paused, the gears going in his head until, like a lightbulb, he understood. “You’re the quirk lady! You made me!”
The woman chuckled, tearfully, and nodded.
“Well fuck…uh thank you I guess!” He chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck.
“You were the first one I ever got to hold.” She said softly. Then she shook her head suddenly and grabbed his hand, “Come, I want to know everything.”
“W-what about your imaging-“
“It can WAIT.”
----------------------------------
Hiroki spent the next several hours talking to Meg back in her office. She even forced him to let her order lunch. He talked about his childhood, his brother, his parents, Seishi, getting his degree. She in turn told him of how his parents lawyers helped her open this clinic once she got out of jail. Apparently, she didn’t use her quirk much anymore. They focused on the type of fertility therapy developed by Doctor Finlayson of all people, the doctor that helped Kirishima and Mina get pregnant with HIS boyfriend.
“You’re joking right?” Meg had laughed when he told her that. “What a coincidence! You have to let me meet him someday.”
He smiled and showed her a bunch of his Instagram pictures of the two of them.
And while he was scrolling, she made a joke about making him and Seishi a baby. And he had laughed at the joke….but he couldn’t stop thinking about it. Even after he shared his contact details and said his goodbyes, promising to come back the next day to actually fix the equipment he was supposed to.
He was still thinking about it when he finally collapsed into bed next to Seishi. He curled up and snuggled against Seishi, burrowing his head up under his boyfriend’s arm.
“Mmmm. You used my new soap.” He mumbled.
“Yes I did you weirdo.” Seishi pushed Hiroki’s head back so that it was resting on his arm, not in his armpit. “How was your thing. You fix their…camera…thing?”
“No. Gunna have to go back tomorrow.”
“Oh. Well it’s nice that you’re getting out of the house.”
“Sei I went skydiving last week. That was PRETTY out of the house.”
“Yeah but you never go out for normal stuff. You only go out for extremes. When was the last time you went grocery shopping?”
“Uber delivers groceries now.”
“God you are selectively lazy.” Seishi tossed his phone on the night stand, flipped off their lamp, and scooted down the bed to lay down. Hiroki immediately shifted to his favorite cuddling position, head pillowed across Seishi’s chest, mind once again returning to the lady’s joke.
“Hey Sei?”
“Mmmm?”
“Have you ever thought about having kids? Like a baby?”
Seishi sat up immediately. Hiroki yelped as he tumbled off his snuggle perch.
“WHAT.” Seishi yanked the cord on the lamp, switching it back on.
“A baby Sei. Like….like a little person?”
“I know what a baby is Hiroki. WHY would you ask that?” Seishi stared down at him with wide eyes.
“You won’t believe who owns that clinic Sei.”
Hiroki explained everything about Meg and the clinic and the joke.
“And you know…made me think.”
“About having babies!?”
“Well why not? I graduated. We have good jobs. We make great money. You love kids!” Hiroki rolled over onto his back to look up at him.
“KIDS TERRIFY ME HIROKI!”
“Ok but like…our kid wouldn’t…”
“Hiroki we can’t even get a CAT because I’m scared of them.”
“Yeah….yeah I know. Anyways it wasn’t that serious. I just realized we never talked about it.” Hiroki shrugged and then reached up to pull Seishi back down. “Forget I said anything and lets sleep babe.”
“Ok….” Seishi let himself be pulled back into an embrace.
“I love you Seish.” Hiroki mumbled, nuzzling back into his chest.
“I love you too Kiki.” Seishi said, wide awake now…staring at the ceiling.
Now the idea was in HIS head.
---------------------------------------------------
And once the idea was in Seishi’s head it was like the universe kept sending babies into his path for the next couple months.
He stared at babies in the grocery store. His Hulu only showed him diaper ads. The King and Queen of England or whatever had a baby and it was the only thing anyone talked about on the internet. He couldn’t scroll half a page without seeing the royal baby and articles like “Top 10 cutest celebrity babies.”
But the final straw, the unmistakable message from the universe, the icing on the cake, was when he and Nautilus got called in to help a stranded party yacht.
A party yacht that happened to be hosting an even for PREGNANT MOTHERS.
Seishi took one step onto the boat and started laughing like a crazy person.
“OK! OK I GET IT!” He shouted up into the sky, Nautilus turned to him.
“You ok there kid? You’re kinda scaring all these nice ladies.”
“IM FINE!” Seishi cackled maniacally. “I HAVE TO HAVE A BABY!”
-----------------------------------------------
He stomped into his apartment after work.
“HIROKI!” He called out.
“SHOWER!” A voice yelled back from elsewhere in the apartment. Seishi stomped down to their bathroom and flung open the shower curtain. Hiroki flinched and froze, midway through shampooing his hair.
“Uh, hi?”
“Ok. I want to do this. But I have two conditions.” Seishi blurted.
“Do…what? Are we about to have shower sex?” Hiroki lowered his hands slowly, looking excited.
“One, we take some classes and do research and PREPARE for it.” Seishi said, ignoring him.
“Research…hate to break it to you big guy but we’ve had sex before.” Hiroki cocked a confused eyebrow.
“TWO, I want to be married first. I want to marry YOU first.”
Hiroki’s eyes went huge and he reached down to shut off the water. He stared at Seishi with a twitching eye.
“You want me to wait until we’re married before we can have sex again!?” He wheezed suddenly, high pitched.
“What? No. I’m not talking about sex you dork!”
“What are you talking about STORMING IN HERE WHILE IM NAKED THEN!?”
“IM TALKING ABOUT A BABY HIROKI. I WANT TO HAVE A BABY. I want to have a baby with you.” Seishi reached into the shower and cupped Hiroki’s damp face.
“You….you do?”
“Yes.”
“Like a little person.”
“Yes Kiki.”
“Oh.” Hiroki stared at him. “Well holy shit.”
“Do you…D-do you still want to?”
“Yes. Yes holy FUCK Sei you don’t even know. I can’t stop thinking about it. I started crying last week at the Thai take out place because the lady in front of me had this baby and it was making faces at me oh my god. Oh my god.” Hiroki grabbed Seishi’s face back and slotted their lips together, water from his hair dripping down both their faces now.
“Mmm, mmm wait.” Seishi pushed him back, “Maybe we should have this conversation when you’re not naked.”
“Nope. Nope this is a perfect time.” Hiroki pulled him into the shower.
“Hiroki I have clothes on.”
“Well fix that.”
-----------------------------------------
To their credit, they took a bit more time to officially decide.
Meg hooked them up and got them into some parenting classes they held at her clinic. Seishi made them appointments with a family counselor. They made an actual plan with Meg with a hospital appointment and everything. Hiroki forced himself to clean out their spare bedroom. They did research. They went shopping (Again with Megs help).
And they did it all…without telling anyone.
“You guys really aren’t telling your parents?” Meg asked after one of their parenting classes.
“Nah. It’ll be hilarious.” Hiroki chuckled.
“We’re not NOT doing it to be funny. It’s just…our parents are…a lot.”
“They like to be involved. In EVERYTHING. My DAD handstitched extra beading on my sister in laws dress. Shes not even his kid and THE pro hero GROUND ZERO spent HOURS all hunched over a fucking wedding dress with this itty bitty needle.” Hiroki stuck out his tongue.
“My parents bought me a cake when I lost my virginity.” Seishi said with a sigh.
“Oh…lord.” Meg chuckled.
“Yeah.”
“Plus, after everything they pulled with us…it’ll be nice to be able to surprise them.”
“A grandkid is an awfully big surprise.” Meg smiled.
“We know. It’ll be great.”
“And….and we want some…you know...family time…with just the three of us.” Seishi smiled softly and looked over at Hiroki. Hiroki felt his heart flutter at the words.
Three. Hiroki liked the sound of that. A lot. A LOT a lot.
“Yeah, we’re a little excited.” He smiled back and reached out for Seishi’s hand, giving it a squeeze.
----------------------------------------
A week later Hiroki was being dragged down town the day before they were scheduled to meet Meg at the hospital.
“Sei where are we going, I need to finish that review for Iida-tech before the baby gets here.” Hiroki whine as he was dragged up from a train station stop.
“You did the whole maternal leave paperwork thing right?” Sei asked.
“PATERNAL. And they just combine it into parental leave now. And yes. I did after the 8th time you reminded me. Why….are we here?” Hiroki asked as they arrived at the big glass city office building.
“Because of my second condition.” Seishi smiled, stopping outside the doors.
“Second condition?”
“I told you I wanted to have a baby with you on two conditions. We did the research and took the classes, now it’s time for part two.”
“Seishi that was almost a year ago. I don’t remember part-Oh FUCK.” Hiroki gasped when Seishi knelt down suddenly while he was talking.
“Bakugou Hiroki.”
“Oh shit. Oh shit.”
“Will you stop cussing and let me do this!? Its already VERY stressful.” Seishi asked exasperatedly. Hiroki just snapped his mouth shut and nodded.
“Bakugou Hiroki I love you. To this day I am still dumbfounded as to why you love me back, but I will be eternally grateful for the fact because I need you. And I had a whole speech b-but there are a lot of people staring at us right now so I’ll k-keep this short before I die.” Seishi took a deep breath. “Will you go into this building and marry me right now?”
“Right now?!”
Seishi nodded, turning bright red.
“Fuck yes!” Hiroki squeaked. Seishi let out the breath he had been holding and stood up. Hiroki jumped at him and Seishi caught him deftly, spinning him around with ease before setting him down and kissing him soundly.
“No parents?” Hiroki asked when they pulled apart, grinning ear to ear.
“I don’t want to share you.” Seishi muttered, embarrassed. “I don’t want to share my moment.”
“God I love you.” Hiroki breathed before pulling their faces back together.
--------------------------------------
The next day they woke up early, double checked that everything was ready at home, grabbed their “hospital baby bag” and headed off to meet Meg.
They were put into a room on the labor and delivery floor. Finalized some paper work. Had a doctor stand by. Meg, having learned from experience by now, had them both SIT down and then with a final check that they were ready, asked for Hiroki’s hand, activating her quirk.
And then Hiroki took his newlywedded husband’s hand.
And at 8:17 in the morning Kirishima Seishi and Bakugou Hiroki became parents to a healthy, perfect, little baby girl.
The nurses swept her away quickly to check her vitals and then swaddle her up before handing her back to Hiroki who looked down at her with big, tearful eyes.
“Well hi there!” He said softly. Seishi scooted up next to him and leaned into his space.
“Oh my god. She’s so small.” Seishi breathed.
“Look, she’s got your hair.” Hiroki breathed a chuckle. Seishi reached out to run the pad of a single finger over the wispy patches of black hair on her head. The baby fussed and scrunched up it’s face, starting to cry again.
“Oh oh oh oh. Hey now that’s just your Daddy!” Hiroki whispered. “And I’m your Papa.”
“And who is she?” Meg asked through tears of her own. Seishi smiled up at her, big fat tears rolling down his own cheeks.
“Ino.” He smiled.
“Kirishima Ino.” Hiroki added, not taking his eyes off his daughter. “Fuck Seish, she’s so….so perfect.”
Seishi let out a little breathy sob and scooted closer, resting his chin on Hiroki’s shoulder. He brought his hand up to let Ino grasp at his finger while she wailed. His other hand snuck around Hiroki’s waist and pulled him as close as possible.
Yeah, Three sounded pretty good.
----------------------------------
They got to take little Ino home late the next afternoon after spending the night and that morning in observation. Hiroki and Sei didn’t leave her side the entire time, mostly taking turns holding her, memorizing every perfect little feature. Pleasantly surprised when she finally opened her eyes to reveal a pair of crimson irises identical to Hiroki’s. UNFATHOMABLY surprised at just how quickly you could fall in love with something.
And they cried.
Like a LOT.
Even when they finally got her home the tears were barely contained. Hiroki damn near exploded when he left to make them some tea and came back to find Seishi cradling her closely on their couch in his ugly old man pajamas that Hiroki hated, whispering a stream of ‘thank yous’ into the universe.
“She’s OURS.” Seishi said when Hiroki sat back down. “We get to KEEP her, like…FOREVER.”
“Mmmmmm,” Hiroki hummed. “Sei I don’t know if I’ve been this happy. I got a husband and a kid all in two days, and they are BOTH so perfect. I love you.”
“I love you too Kiki.”
Hiroki smiled and snuggled closer.
“So. Whose parents do you want to call first.”
“Um. Let’s do yours first. I still don’t know how to break the news to mine without giving them a heart attack. Do you know what you’re going to say?”
“Oh I have an idea. Let me go grab my phone.”
--------------------------------------------------------
“Deku your phone is ringing.” Bakugou yelled from the couch to his husband who was doing laundry somewhere else in the house. “It’s Hiroki.”
“Answer it please! I’m busy!” Midoriya’s voice called out.
Bakugou grumbled and picked up Midoriya’s phone, grumbling more when he saw it was a video call, grumbling yet again as he answered it.
“What.” He said, holding the phone so only his hair was visible. “It’s date night.”
“Where’s Papa then?” Hiroki asked, smiling face filling up the screen.
“Laundry.”
“Romantic date then.” Hiroki teased.
“What do you want?” Bakugou’s shifted so even more of his hair was in the frame.
“Hmmm….Hey Sei, don’t you think dads getting really gray these days?” Hiroki moved his phone so a sliver of Seishi’s face was visible next to him. Seishi nodded to the camera.
Bakugou’s eyes flitted the the little image of himself in the corner, fighting the urge to reach up and touch his hair. Sure he had a couple grays here and there, but they really blended in with his blonde. More so than Midoriya’s whose gray streaks made him look like a Todoroki sibling.
“Yea,” Hiroki repeated. “You are definitely a grandpa now.”
“Call me grandpa one more time and I’ll kill you before you get the chance to make it a reality.” Bakugou growled.
“Uh…” He heard Seishi mumble.
“Too late.” Hiroki said cheerfully, then suddenly panned his camera down to his arms and Bakugou froze.
Nestled in his son’s arms was a tiny little bundle, a dusting of dark hair over pale skin. A tiny hand peeking out to frame a sleeping face.
“Surprise Grandpa!” Hiroki cheered softly. Bakugou stared, unaware that the camera had drifted down so his whole face was in the frame.
“Is this a joke?” He asked, voice cracking, after a moment.
“Awwwww Princess, Grandpa thinks you’re a joke.” Hiroki teased, his hand appearing on screen, running over one of the babies cheeks.
“Hir…..H-Hiroki?” Bakugou choked, not even noticing Midoriya step up behind him, looking over his shoulder behind the couch.
“Well GRANDPA. I’d like you to meet Kirishima Ino.” Hiroki said, leaning down to smile at the camera before returning it to pan over the sleeping baby.
All the air seemed stolen from Bakugou’s lungs as he yet again froze and fell silent, staring. Behind him he heard his husband gasp and the sound of a laundry basket clattering to the floor as Midoriya’s hands flew to cover his mouth.
“Hiroki…..I’m….I’m a grandpa?” Bakugou asked quietly.
“Surprise!” Hiroki repeated his earlier statement.
An even louder clatter echoed behind him and Bakugou turned just in time to see Midoriya crumple to the ground in a faint.
