Work Text:
Aizawa idly made his way to the 1A classroom, shoulders slumped from exhaustion, not particularly wanting to talk to a room of brats at this time in the morning. Especially with how loud they were.
Hitoshi had insisted on going ahead earlier, as per usual. He took after his insomniac father in many ways, including not knowing the meaning of the words "sleep schedule", however, in Hitoshi's case, he didn't actually mind getting up early with little sleep the night before. Additionally, he had some sort of complex about how late he had joined the class, making him want to do everything in his power to prove his place there, even small things like being to class early.
Aizawa thought back to a few months ago, shortly after the sports festival. He'd finally been fed up with one of the previous student's antics, as he had continuously disrespected the girls in his class and acted incredibly inappropriately towards them, especially for someone planning to be a hero. Mito? Misao? Mino? Aizawa hadn't cared enough to remember the delinquent's name. The final straw was when he'd tried, once again, to put his hands on one of the girls when she had said no. Aizawa's patient ran out, and the boy had been promptly expelled, bringing Hitoshi up into class 1A.
Aizawa had noticed his son's anticipation and nervousness imminently. Despite his ever-nonchalant appearance, he was really a very emotive person, prone to feeling anxious about different situations and wanting to do the right thing by the people around him. With the gap in experience from not being at the USJ incident, and generally not intermingling with the class from the beginning, he was resolute in catching up to them.
Aizawa couldn't help the pride that welled in his chest as he saw his son grow ever closer to that goal, even surpassing others on the way. Of course, in a classroom environment, both of them were cautious to keep an objective stance. Honestly, he wasn't even sure if anyone else in the class even knew Hitoshi was his adopted son. Well, they'd find out eventually, he supposed. But that was up to them to figure out. Wouldn't hurt them to use their brains for once.
He slowed as he approached the door to the classroom. Inside he could hear the loud chatter and ruckus that they were already making at this time in the morning. Typical. He was careful to wipe the smile off his face before walking into the classroom.
As he walked into the room, the chatter died out as Iida screeched at everyone to be quiet and take their seat. Right before being reminded he was the only one making noise, not in his seat. Just as usual.
Once they had calmed, Aizawa started on his usual drawl of the morning announcements, voice still heavy with sleep.
"Hey, Mr Aizawa," Not even five minutes into talking and he was already being interrupted. Typical. He lifted his gaze to see which brat had disturbed him to lock eyes with Denki Kaminari. How boringly unsurprising.
"Yes, Kaminari, what have you deemed so important you needed to interrupt me?"
Kaminari had the decency to look at least a little guilty, "Uhhh, sorry, it's just, I noticed you were wearing a ring. I hadn't seen you wear one before, so I was just wondering what it's for?"
Aizawa glanced down to his hand to see, indeed, he was wearing his wedding ring. He inwardly cursed a little at that, he'd forgotten to leave it at home. Honestly, he didn't particularly care if people knew he was married to Hizashi, he loved him and that's all that really mattered. Having said that, he usually liked to keep his personal life private. And although begrudgingly he would admit only to himself, he had grown rather attached to this class, he didn't want them poking their noses in his business. Hizashi wore his ring to school every day, so they probably hadn't commented, but seeing as Aizawa usually left his at home, of course, they would notice the change straight away. Another reason Aizawa suspected the rest of the class were unaware that Hitoshi was his son was that he also shared Aizawa's views on this and preferred to be a more private person.
"Oh yeah! It's so pretty, Mr Aizawa! Since when did you wear rings though?" Hagakure piped up.
Aizawa's sleep-deprived brain wasn't ready for this crap at this time of the morning. He briefly glanced over to where Hitoshi was sitting behind Midoriya, to see him smirking like a little shit. Fucking brat.
Aizawa dragged a hand over his face, "I don't see how my fashion choices have anything to do with this class. Now stop asking about pointless nonsense and let me continue."
A few students seemed like they wanted to ask more but wisely kept their mouths shut. Good.
The rest of homeroom went without a hitch, and Aizawa pocketed his ring soon after it had ended.

Shinsou was struggling to keep the grin off his face. Homeroom that morning had been just too funny.
He was well aware of the whole situation, of course. He had said to his father before, that he should just keep the ring on all the time, that way if it was just the usual thing people were less likely to ask questions instead of him just suddenly appearing to wear a ring after forgetting to take it off.
He would definitely be poking fun at him later seeing as he was right. And hopefully, it would be worth being left hanging upside-down in the kitchen by his capture weapon after.
"What's got you so happy?" Midoriya bumped against his side, aiming an easy smile at him
Ah. So, he hadn't managed to keep from showing his amusement.
Shinsou looked away, rubbing the back of his neck out of habit. "Nothing really." He carefully kept a nonchalant tone.
Midoriya raised an eyebrow but left it at that. Shinsou was making his way to lunch with him and the rest of the so-called "Dekusquad", although didn't really have a specific affinity towards any, one group. Truthfully, he quite enjoyed the company of everyone in 1A to some extent, despite their differences. The two who had been most welcoming to him when he first transferred into the class, helping him adjust, were Midoriya and Kaminari. At break times, he found himself wandering along with one of them and the others. Although at times he did enjoy sitting with his favourite fellow cryptic, Tokoyami.
The group collected their meals and sat at one of the tables in the hall and started chattering away. Shinsou was just beginning to zone out when something Tsu said caught his attention.
"So, where do you guys think that ring Mr Aizawa was wearing came from?" She blinked her wide eyes at them. Of course, someone as observant as Tsu wouldn't just let that slide.
"Ohh, maybe someone gave it to him!" Uraraka gushed, "How cute would that be!"
"Ha, if only you knew", Shinsou thought to himself.
Todoroki glanced up from the Soba he had been so intently focused on, "I saw him take it off and put it in his pocket after class. Most likely, he mistakenly wore it to school."
"So maybe he's had it for a while!" Uraraka picked up. She paused as a look of delight crossed her feature, "Maybe it's a wedding ring!"
"Well," Now Midoriya was joining in? "Really, we don't know much about his personal life. Even less so because he stays out of the media light, so it is a possibility." He tapped his chin, looking thoughtful, "You know… I could have sworn Present Mic wears a similar ring."
Ok, this had gone far enough. Shinsou had obviously spent too long hanging out with Kaminari because he had forgotten not everyone had only had a singular working brain cell and that these guys were all relatively observant. And as amusing it was to see his adoptive father trying to cover up his mishap, Shinsou didn't actually want anyone to find out if he didn't want them to. Time to steer this conversation away from that.
"You guys are overthinking it. He was wearing a ring, so what? Just leave it at that." Shinsou looked over to them nonchalantly.
Iida chimed in from there, waving his hands in that strange chopping motion, "Yes, and we should not be snooping in our teacher's private life!"
"Oh please, you were just as interested in listening." Uraraka giggled.
Iida spluttered, trying (and failing) to defend himself. The rest of lunch dissolved into aimless chattering.
That was close.

Earlier the next week, Aizawa woke to find a warm body next to his own. This was unusual as Hizashi typically left for work much earlier than Aizawa himself. Something about having a sleep schedule and a healthy circadian rhythm? He didn't know about any of that, so he was just gonna leave it.
He groaned softly, displeased with having to open his eyes and fully wake up.
The person whom he had been using as a pillow, chuckled, "Awake now, are we."
Aizawa lifted his head to lock eyes with his husband, already looking very much awake, smiling down at him. Why was he so god damn bright? He felt as if he would go blind, looking at that smile for too long.
Aizawa squinted at his husband before burying his head back into his chest, "Not that I don't enjoy waking up with you, but why are you still here?" He mumbled.
Hizashi ran his fingers through Aizawa's hair, "I thought It'd be nice to go together to work, it's been a while." He started to shift, to Aizawa's utter displeasure, "Having said that, we should start getting ready to go. Shinsou already left." With that, he gently removed himself Aizawa's hold. Oh, the betrayal.
Aizawa glared up at him, still unwilling to move. "Come on, Shota, you gotta get up." Hizashi looked mildly amused by his husband's antics. Deciding to cut his losses, Aizawa begrudgingly heaved himself out of bed as Hizashi pulled open the curtains, allowing light to spill into the bedroom. Sunlight. Disgusting.
Hizashi was brisk in getting ready, already full of energy, while Aizawa dragged himself to the closet, limbs heaving, and started going through the motions. Put on the uniform, pack his sleeping bag (an essential), pick up the pile of marked homework that almost gave him an aneurysm from reading them.
Hizashi was already preparing breakfast in the kitchen by the time he got there, toasting some bread to take on the road. Aizawa didn't usually have breakfast much to Hizashi's displeasure, so this was a nice change.
Aizawa trudged over to the coffee machine and found two travel mugs. While Aizawa preferred to have his coffee black and bitter (like his soul, although Hizashi would say otherwise), Hizashi had an unbearably sweet, creamy mix, which ensured cavities with every sip.
They collected the rest of their essentials for the day and made their way to the car. Hizashi slid into the driver's seat, which was preferable for Aizawa, who was dangerously sleep-weary in the mornings. And nights. And any other time of the day. Truth be told, these were Aizawa's favourite kind of mornings. Both of them had quite busy schedules, so even doing things as mundane as waking up together, get ready with him and going to work, was incredibly precious to Aizawa.
The car ride was relatively peaceful, Aizawa content with listening to Hizashi chatter on about what that day would have in store; teachers to talk to, courses he was starting in different year groups, meetings to sit in idly. It felt like they arrived at the school entirely too soon for Aizawa.
They pulled into the staff parking and briefly said their goodbyes. Hizashi had to be at a meeting first thing, so he promptly rushed off.
Aizawa turned and immediately spotted Mina and Kaminari walking to class. Mina glanced over and locked eyes with him, imminently breaking into a grin, waving a hand up in the air, "Mr Aizawa! Good morning!".
Aizawa winced at her loud exclamation as he approached. It wasn't that disliked either student. He would never admit this to anyone, but he did approve of all the students in his class, even going as far as to care about them. However, at this time in the morning, and knowing how energetic the pair were, it really wasn't ideal, especially seeing as he had arrived with Hizashi.
Aizawa donned his usual apathetic demeanour, "Good morning."
Kaminari tilted his head curiously at him, "You came with Present Mic today, do you guys live close to each other?"
For a kid whose grades left much to be desired, Kaminari was rather perceptive. Many people, including Aizawa himself at times, often underestimated him when it came to this.
Aizawa took care in keeping his expression neutral, "Yes, you could say that." He turned and began walking to his homeroom, the two following close behind.
"Aww, it's cute you two are such good friends!" Mina gushed, intent on continuing the conversation, "It's like a typical sunshine child and dark 'n' gloomy dynamic!"
Aizawa glanced over his shoulder, eyebrow raised at the statement. He would never understand these kids and their weird slang, "What are you even talking about?" As soon as the words left his mouth, he knew it was a mistake if the way Mina absolutely lit up was any indication. Shit.
"You know!" No, he didn't know, that was the whole point. "Two people who are complete opposites, in this case, someone who is a happy-go-lucky bean" Bean?? "And! A dark and gloomy kinda guy. No offence."
Wow, his eyebrow muscle was getting a workout today from how much it had been raised already, "None taken."
Mina continued, "Point is, it's a totally adorable dynamic! Also, totally shippable."
Kaminari, who had yet to give his opinion verbally, nodded along solemnly to what Mina was saying as if this was some deep and philosophical conversation. Aizawa, on the other hand, still felt as if he had no idea what was going on.
That word though… 'shippable'? He could have sworn he'd heard it before. He had a vague impression of what it meant, and if that was the case… "What exactly does 'shippable' mean?" He side-eyed Mina wearily.
The grin turned mischievous. Oh shi- "It means you would make a totally cute couple!" She turned and grabbed Kaminari's hand, "Welp! Gotta go! See ya, Mr Aizawa!" With that, she dashed off towards the building, Kaminari in tow.
Aizawa stopped and stood, starstruck in the middle of the pavement. A COUPLE?! Could people tell? He ran a hand through his already mussed hair, sighing exasperatedly. Would it really matter, though? If the kids in his class found out? He paused on that. Really, none of them would probably care and homophobic students in the past had been promptly dealt with. Well, he supposed it didn't truly matter. He smirked to himself then.
Not that he would make it easy. If they wanted to know, they'd have to figure it out themselves.

What the fuck was going on?
All Shinsou felt like he was hearing about the past few days was his adoptive father's speculated love life from his classmates. It's not exactly a comfortable topic when people are gossiping about it right in front of him, especially considering he already had the answers. Not that it was their fault, none of them even knew that he was their teacher's son in the first place.
He was with Kaminari and the others Today, and the main point of the conversation was what type of person his father would marry or be married to. So far, thanks to an encounter a few days ago with Kaminari, Mina and Aizawa, the main theory was that he'd be with someone completely opposite to him. Which was very close to the truth. Mina had even gushed about 'what a good couple Aizawa and Present mic would make'. That statement had almost made him choke on his drink.
His sleep-deprived father did have a conversation with him not long after the incident, telling him it was fine if his classmates found out, just not to give them any hints. So now, as weird as it was, he also had the pleasure of sitting back and enjoying watching the rest of them speculate and theorise in a scrambled mess.
So far, these were the things they had successfully deducted between the class: Aizawa was probably married, and he was probably with someone with an opposite personality.
That was all well and good, but the really entertaining things were the things they got wrong. A few of Shinsou's favourites were, Aizawa's spouse was actually an alien or was really a villain, and that they were actually running a secret underground orphanage (not sure where that one came from).
They were definitely onto something though, and despite his words, Aizawa had given them small clues. He wore his ring to school and came to school with Shinsou's dad more often and dropped small hints about having a lover or spouse and what kind of person they'd be.
Shinsou was startled out of his thoughts by someone coming up to their table and slamming their hands down on it, creating a sound loud enough for him to almost jump ten feet in the air.
"I got it!" Shinsou looked up (after having a minor heart failure) to see Kirishima, who had gone to the teacher's lounge to get help from Ectoplasm for his class.
"You'd better have a good reason for coming over here and banging on the table, shitty hair." Bakugou glared at his friend, no true threat behind his words, Kirishima unblinking.
Kirishima smiled widely, "In the teacher's lounge, I heard Ms Midnight talking about Aizawa, and guess what?!" He paused for dramatic effect, but his audience was already captive.
"What?" Sero prompted, eager as the others for his answer.
"Aizawa has IS married! And with a kid!" The table erupted into chaos, all of them asking questions at once. Shinsou sat there in surprise, feeling almost kind of impressed that he'd been able to get that information. "But there's more!"
… What?
The table held their breath in anticipation, "Apparently, they both go here, his spouse is a teacher, and his kid is a student!"
If the table had been chaotic before… Well, that just paled in comparison to what their reactions were after that. The questions overflowed, but now with theories about who it could be; which teachers Aizawa spent the most time with, which students resembled him.
Shinsou soon shook off his surprise as it was replaced by amusement. Oh, little did they know, while they were all sitting in the presence of the person they were so enthusiastically trying to find.
Word spread around the class quickly over the next few days, and in no time, there was a betting pool, but at the moment it was only for who Aizawa's partner was.
Shinsou was honestly astounded that no one was yet to question that he might be Aizawa's kid. He was around him enough and resembled him in personality profoundly. It might be different if it was Mic they were investigating, but no. Some heroes to be they were.
The top four at the moment were Present Mic, Vlad King, Midnight and Ms Joke (the reasoning for this was that Kirishima could have misinterpreted, and his spouse was a teacher from another school).
Honestly, this was the most entertainment Shinsou had all year.
- ••
Aizawa was not blind nor stupid.
Over the past week, he had, in fact, noticed his student's behaviour; the sneaked looks, the whispers and giggles between them. He had even caught a glance at a betting pool, and although he had not seen the contents, he had a heavy suspicion he knew what it was about.
He gave them no indication that he had any clue into what they were doing. The more it seemed like he was suspicious, the more incriminating it would look. Anyway, they were heroes to be, it wouldn't hurt them to use their brains.
Aizawa glanced down at his wedding ring that he had decided to wear today, caressing it gently, smiling, before moving his tired eyes back to the paperwork that he was finalising for the training exercise they were doing that day. Whose idea was it to invent paperwork? They truly deserved to be thrown into Tartarus.
Today they were doing a basic exercise, a rescue-based mission set up. Hizashi would be aiding in this Today and Aizawa couldn't help the bit of joy he got out of working with his husband. Hopefully, today would go smoothly (although, did things ever really go smoothly for this class?).
He sighed as he gathered everything he needed and headed to the location of the exercise where Hizashi and the rest of his class were already waiting.
"Ah, ha! Eraser, you're here!" Hizashi turned to face him, beaming back at him. He was almost too bright to look at.
Aizawa nodded to him, keeping a neutral expression and turned to the class, "Today's exercise is simple enough. You will be split into two groups; Civilians and heroes. The civilians will go into this facility that has been designed to replicate a cave structure that has been partially collapsed due to a natural disaster. The heroes' job will be to go in and extract the others acting as civilians while disturbing the fragile cave's landscape as less as possible. The structure is prone to falling debris, so be cautious. Present Mic and I will be in there supervising if anything goes wrong. Once all the 'civilians' have been extracted, the groups will swap roles."
The class listened cohesively, ready to take on the task and briskly set out on their tasks as soon as their roles were assigned. The first round had gone entirely smoothly. Then there was the second rotation.
It had been an accident. One of the students had knocked the wrong piece of rock out of place, the ceiling rumbled. Aizawa had heard a crack above his head and then "Shota, look out!" At the last second, a hand grabbed him by the wrist and pulled him back from where he had been standing, now of which was a large pile of rocks. Aizawa was engulfed by a hug from his husband who had in fact just pulled him back.
He glanced towards the rock, "Well, that was close."
Hizashi pulled back and looked at him in disbelief, hands gripping his shoulders "Close? Close?! You almost got crushed!"
Aizawa patted his hand, comfortingly, "But I didn't, thanks to you." He looked back as the place where the rocks had fallen, then at the ceiling, "Having said that, I think we should end the exercise here. This area needs adjustments, things like that are too dangerous in simple exercises like this." He glanced around at the students nearby; Todoroki, Tokoyami, Kouta and Jiro, all of which were cautiously trying to make their way over, worried for their teacher, "Don't come over here, go to the exit, get any of your classmates on the way. We'll get the rest."
They paused and nodded, all doing as they were told and making their way out. Once Aizawa and Hizashi had cleared out the area, they all made their way to the exit. The class was concisely debriefed and told they would be heading back to the classroom to do theory instead, as the training ground was unsafe. There were a few groans at the statement, but otherwise, no one complained.
As they were making their way back, there was a loud gasp from one of the students. Aizawa whirled around to see what the problem was to come to face to face with a happily surprised looking Uraraka.
He raised an eyebrow, "Is everything ok, Uraraka?"
She turned her wide eyes to him, "Your ring matches Present Mics!" Aizawa turned to his husband, who looked bemused but hesitant and nodded to him, granting him to say whatever he wanted. It was only a matter of time, anyway.
"Well," Hizashi began, "Most wedding rings do match." The class absolutely exploded.
"YES! I KNEW IT! SERO YOU OWE ME $20!" Kaminari pumped a fist in the air. All around them, all the students were shouting over each other, some slightly disappointed at losing money, but otherwise happy for the couple.
"God took you all long enough. I thought you'd never find out." Shinsou rolled his eyes from where he was standing at the side.
Midoriya turned towards him, "Wait, you knew! This whole time? How?"
Aizawa didn't miss the cheeky smirk his son flashed. "Because I'm their son."
Chaos erupted once again.
