Chapter Text

It was supposed to be a relatively simple mission, bust a drug ring and destroy all evidence. Chuuya wasn’t even sure why they were sending an executive on it with the backup of the black lizards, but he wasn’t complaining too much. At least he wasn’t stuck doing paperwork all day or on a high-pressure mission.

Chuuya and his subordinates didn’t know much about this organization, only that there were shady dealings being held. Port mafia level shady.

With the flick of his wrist, the others surged forward with practiced ease. Despite the Black Lizards being the firepower, they were also used for stealth meanings, especially Gin and her assassins. The port mafia wasn’t like that group of idiots the Armed Detective Agency, they didn’t just bust into the scene.

The block of warehouses seemed relatively empty when they scoped the place out, only coming across a few sparsely placed guards who weren’t even holding their guns right. This spoke volumes of their organizational skills. Either they were overconfident or just downright unintelligent, either way, not a threat to the port mafia.

But it was a threat to Yokohama’s citizens if the strange drugs they were experimenting on got out to the public.

So Chuuya watched as Gin silently took down an employee, lowering him to the ground in a chokehold before shooting him a thumbs up. All clear. Chuuya grinned savagely, cracking his knuckles, it was time to bust this drug ring.

He loudly kicked down the door to the closest warehouse, there was no point in masking their presence when they would be burning the place down anyway and they already Incompasitated the guards.

The black lizard quickly filed in from behind Chuuya as he continued further into the dimly lit building. Despite the lack of light, it was obvious that it was empty, so Chuuyas' grin fell as he held up two with his gloved fingers. ‘Stay on guard’

Blanketed under the veil of darkness Chuuya worked on studying the contents of the warehouse. It was cluttered, but Chuuya could tell that there was a familiar sense of organization behind it. The people working here were rushed in their projects but cared more about accuracy than the output.

There were plastic white tables set along the walls, the kind you would see a large family set up for a cookout. And when Chuuya stepped closer to observe the clutter on top of it, his gut sunk when he immediately recognized the test tubes and syringes.

He narrowed his eyes, letting out a breathy “what the…” as he continued his search, only coming across more testing equipment. The others seemed to catch onto his slight bafflement because they slowly crowded around him as if waiting for him to give orders.

“This isn’t a drug ring, they’re experimenting on something-“ Chuuya hesitated, sharp eyes scanning over the remainder of the large warehouse before resting on a sectioned-off corner with a curtain blocking whatever was behind it from view.

After many silent orders to the squad, Chuuya made his way to the curtain, on guard as he flung it open and out of the way.

He wasn’t surprised at the sight of the children, bound and gagged, lying in a heap, but his gut still twisted uncomfortably. Memories he had long ago blocked off bubbled to the surface, pushing against the barriers of his mind as he hesitantly took a step forward.

“They were experimenting on children.” He finally finished, “let’s get them out of here before we drop the match.”

The children were thankfully alive and seemed relatively unharmed aside from their tear-stained cheeks. The members quickly gathered the children to carry out, because they may be the mafia but Chuuya refused to let any children die on his watch.

Chuuya closed the curtain up, gathering vials and test tubes to put in the evidence bag he had been forced to carry while the rest of the black lizards got the kids to safety.

“Tachihara” Chuuya called once he retrieved what he needed to collect “you got the match?”

Tachihara nodded, pulling out the box from his coat pocket. “The others are waiting outside with the kids, Hirotsu called the police from a disposable to notify them that there was a fire so we gotta scram.”

Chuuya nodded, hefting the bag higher onto his shoulder “come on then, set the fire on the curtain over there and we’ll take the kids to the orphanage across the way.”

Tachihara shook his wrist out slightly before pinching the match between his fingers to swipe against the roughened edge of the box. They watched for a few seconds after he threw it to make sure the curtain would actually catch fire, and when it did Tachihara turned his back to it. “Well done exec,” he moved to wrap an arm around Chuuya’s shoulder “after this, I’m sure we can all kick back and get some-“

Chuuya noticed it before Tachihara ever saw it coming, pushing the younger one to the ground to get him out of range. Unfortunately, protecting him cost Chuuya his own hide, his gravity ability too focused on creating a barrier between Tachihara to care about himself.

The dart didn’t hurt when it pierced through the sensitive skin of his neck, it only felt like a small prick. But the effects were immediate, Chuuya’s limbs collapsed from under him, going numb. He felt his eyes roll to the back of his head when he came in contact with the rigid concrete, a few pebbles making indentions in his skin (not that he could feel them with the numbness overtaking his pliant body.)

The last thing he heard was Tachihara screaming something inaudible, probably his name, before he set his gaze to the window cut high into the tin wall. The opening shrouded moonlight on his face, obscuring the shadowy figure that quickly ducked out of view, making their escape.

Chuuya felt fire licking at his skin when he finally gave in to the rapid poison working its way through his veins, the dull flurry of reds and oranges replaced with the darkness of the back of his eyelids.

The pain that flared in Tachihara’s shoulder was overshadowed by the adrenaline and his worry for his superior.

Chuuya had suddenly pushed him to the ground without warning, and when Tachihara scrambled back to see what happened, he caught the sharp projectile slicing through the air and into the other redhead's neck.

He fell like a rag doll, Tachihara wasn’t sure if he yelled as he lunged to save Chuuya’s head from hitting the concrete.

Tachihara pulled the dart from his neck, shoving it into the bag strapped across Chuuya’s shoulder. There were no outward injuries to take care of, so Tachihara hooked his arms under Chuuya’s armpits, hefting him up to drag him as far away from the rapidly growing fire as he could.

The smoke seared his lungs as he coughed, waving it away. He didn’t have the breath to call for help, so instead, he focused on keeping his shirt over his nose and tugging Chuuya back to the warehouse doors.

Though he noticed something strange, and Tachihara would like to chalk it up to adrenaline or his new workout routine, but he knew that Chuuya rapidly growing lighter in his arms was not possible. Especially if he grew as light as a feather.

What was happening?

Once Tachihara cleared the warehouse he looked down to see… a bundle of clothes?

Oh crap.

“C-Chuuya? Did you- did you disappear?” He cried, panic bubbling in his gut as his superior's beloved hat fell to the floor next to his cloak and-

Oh, shit was that a baby?!

Wrapped in Chuuya’s shirt and vest was, in fact, a baby. A baby with a tuft of familiar bright orange hair and that looked up at him with striking blue eyes.

Tachihara felt all of the blood leave his body at the terrifying sight, he would have dropped the thing if Gin hadn’t taken it from him.

“Oh no, what did I do?” Tachihara repeated under his breath “he- he’s gone, replaced with a kid. Who’s kid is it? Oh my god Gin- is it his kid?-“

The assistant shot him a look. ‘Calm down’

Tachihara was calm, he didn’t know what she was talking about.

Gin swaddled the- admittedly cute- baby up in Chuuya’s coat before they departed to meet up with Hirotsu, who remained with the unconscious children.

As soon as the leader of the black lizards laid his eyes on the baby, he sighed in defeat before gently taking it in his own arms while pulling out his phone to dial a number.

It only took a few moments for the other person to pick up. Hirotsu cleared his throat, allowing for the baby to reach out with pudgy hands and wrap around his pinky finger to chew on it. “Boss. We have a problem .”

Mori clasped his hands in front of his face as he looked on at the scene. The black lizard squad had arrived and went straight to his office after their mission, they all smelled of filth and smoke, but there were more pressing matters at hand.

Such as the baby executive currently babbling in Hirotsu’s arms, bright eyes searching across the room curiously.

As soon as Elise saw the baby Chuuya, she demanded to hold him but Mori sent her off to play with her dolls. He wasn’t annoyed that a baby got his dear Elises attention. He wasn’t.

“.... I see,” he started once the explanation was completed. “We will have our research team on this immediately, and those unconscious children you brought will be studied also, I’m assuming they were once adults as well. And as for who will be watching Chuuya… I leave it up to Kouyou to do what is best for him.”

Mori’s gaze flickered to the executive who had entered the room during his speech, her face set grimly as she took the child from Hirotsu’s grasp. Despite her seriousness, none of them missed the faint glimmer of amusement in her eyes but failed to mention it for the sake of their lives.

She nodded resolutely “I will see that he is safe but sir may I ask, does he accompany me on my next mission?”

The port mafia boss pursed his lips “only if you are confident that you can watch over him and keep him safe, the decision is yours.”

The executive bowed slightly, bringing up a hand to stabilize baby Chuuya’s head before turning to exit the room.

This would be interesting.
