Boruto couldn't erase the menacing smirk on his face.
Why? It's because he has yet to perform another crazy prank. But this wasn't any other prank he had done. This was a masterpiece he still had to seize and attain.
"Now then, all that's left is to tell Tou-chan about this when he gets home! Hehehe..."
The sneaky Uzumaki just ignored the disgruntled looks of his siblings. He knew Kawaki and Himawari didn't want to get involved in any of these. But Boruto being Boruto, he just had to!
Luckily for him, the two agreed thanks to his taiyaki bribery.
"You're seriously dead, Boruto."
Kawaki hissed at his brother to which the blonde only dismissed with his right hand. If they were on a different situation, Kawaki was absolutely sure he had already smacked Boruto in the face. But no. His precious taiyaki was on the line. Of course he can buy some for himself, but he just couldn't decline free food especially when he's broke after buying one of Naruto's posters the other day.
Soon after their exchange, the three jolted as they finally heard the door opening, signaling the arrival of their father.
Himawari immediately stood up in order to greet him and then followed by Kawaki and Boruto.
"Welcome home, Papa!"
The three beamed at the clearly exhausted Hokage.
Himawari rushed and gave her father a hug while the other two offered a fist bump.
At the sight of the three, Naruto couldn't help but smile at his treasures. Aside from the villagers, they are the very reason why he's doing his best to keep the peace not only in Konoha but also the peace of the world.
"I'm home!"
Naruto quickly wrapped the three in a warm embrace much to Kawaki's and Himawari's liking. Boruto on the other hand kept on smirking solely thinking about the success of his plan.
Basically, Boruto's plan was to make the Seventh Hokage jealous. Although the young Uzumaki knows that his mother and father is insanely in love with each other, he still wants to see it happen before his own very eyes. And if there was someone that'd would make his father extremely jealous, Boruto deduced that it would be his master, Naruto's eternal rival, Sasuke Uchiha.
Of course there was no way that his mother and Sasuke would agree to something like this. And so Boruto only did what he does best — Shadow Clone and Transformation Jutsu. But for this to work, he forced his mother to see his Shino-sensei and Uncle Kiba for awhile in order to catch up completely masking his true intentions. It took a lot of convincing but fortunately she finally gave in after making dinner for them.
"Come on, Tou-chan! Let's eat!"
Naruto eagerly nodded and hanged his Hokage robe at the rack. He misses his wife's cooking terribly! He's been eating ramen all day all week and he was sure Hinata's cooking will save his monotonous palette.
And speaking of Hinata, the Sage hasn't heard his wife's soft voice yet. He quirked his brows at this observation but quickly thought that maybe she was still preparing for their food. Ahh, I miss my dear wife! Maybe I could ask her to play with me tonight? Hee! I'm suddenly getting excited now!
"Kaa-chan already prepared dinner for us. She said that she won't be eating with us."
Kawaki boredly said but deep inside his mind he was already cursing Boruto for giving him the task of telling that piece of information to their father. Taiyaki. Taiyaki. Taiyaki. The young Kawaki chanted inside his brain.
Upon hearing this, Naruto's excitement immediately died down. There was no way Hinata would go somewhere without his knowing. That's because he's the first person Hinata would talk to if she had some plans to go out with Sakura or to visit the Hyuga compound. That information alone made Naruto uneasy.
The youngest of the Uzumaki siblings didn't dare to give her poor father a single glance. Because if she did, she would definitely tell the truth in a heartbeat. So instead, Himawari focused her eyes at the unmoving plates on the table in order to lessen the tension on her shoulders.
Boruto took this opportunity to put the cherry on top. This was now or never.
"Kaa-chan is probably coming back. She said she had to go with a friendly date with Sasuke-san."
A friendly date?! With Sasuke?! Naruto was livid! There was no way that was true, right?! There's just no way that his beautiful and kind wife would go on a friendly date with that Sasuke, right?!
"Why?"
Boruto slighy paused with his father's question. No. He paused at his father's voice. It wasn't the usual tone he uses. It was deeper. And it was dark. Boruto swears that tone sent him to hell. But he was already in too deep with his plan. He couldn't stop now!
"U-Um, Kaa-chan just wants to thank Sasuke-san for training me, I guess."
"I see."
No. Naruto definitely couldn't see! He couldn't see any good reason as to why Hinata would do that. He doesn't understand why his wife needed to thank Sasuke alone! She could've invited Sasuke in their home instead where he and the kids would be present.
But then again, Naruto knows this was Hinata that they were talking about. His kind and beautiful Hinata. He knows she would do anything in her power to help others and also express her gratitude to people who had helped her in return.
And in this case, the person his wife was indebted to was his bestfriend and rival, Sasuke Uchiha.
Naruto glanced at his three children who was clearly waiting for him to sit down. His heart hurt. It hurt so much. But he just couldn't sit down with them like he always does. Not in this situation. His Hinata wasn't here.
Of course, Naruto knows that Hinata nor Sasuke would ever try to cheat on him and Sakura.
He knows that more than anyone else.
But what can he do?
He was freaking jealous!
Sasuke was everything he wasn't. Sasuke was more handsome than him, taller than him, smarter than him and he was cool in his own ways! Naruto couldn't find a single flaw on his Uchiha rival. Who's to say that Hinata didn't find and see something nice in Sasuke that he certainly lacked?
The Hokage wasn't sure if this was his fatigue controlling his emotions and finally got the better of his mind but he knows he won't rest until Hinata comes home. He needed to take Hinata home.
"Tou-chan...?"
Boruto turned to Kawaki to ask for some assistance but he only earned an annoyed eyeroll.
The young Uzumaki Boruto gulped at the sight of his father. He never saw him this furious. He didn't even see him get this mad when he cheated at the Chunin exams!
You want to see this, right?! Then just do it! Boruto was getting nervous by the second. He never thought his father would act this way! Even for a prank, he knows he did too much. But this was now or never. He just needed to see how everything ends.
With that resolution, Boruto then instructed his clones inside his mind to come inside their home. Damn it! I'm so goddamn scared!
Within a second, the four of them heard the door open once again.
Kawaki and Himawari was sweating like crazy. Just like Boruto, they haven't seen their father get this mad in their entire life too!
Boruto gulped again and bit his lip trying to pacify his nerves.
Naruto on the other side of the room froze. He heard Sasuke's and Hinata's voice.
All of them didn't dare to move. Not even a single sound.
Not until the door that separated the dining room and entrance slid open spitting Hinata and Sasuke in front of them.
"H-Hinata..."
As Naruto called his wife, he unconsciously activated his orange cloak which startled his three children.
The clone Hinata and Sasuke looked at their master in hopes to get some instructions but Boruto just nodded at them which meant continuing the plan they formulated awhile ago.
"Dear... I have to tell you something."
Naruto gasped for air as soon he heard Hinata's voice. But it wasn't really the reason why he was breathless. It was because he witnessed his beloved wife holding Sasuke's hand. N-No! Hinata! Why are you holding his hand like that?!
Himawari held her breath as she hid behind Kawaki's back. Kawaki who was also restless could only clench his fist.
Boruto was shaking. Literally shaking. His clones really looked like his mother and master but he was sure he couldn't copy their chakras. He couldn't believe that his father didn't even notice the difference in chakra signature! He's too mad to notice it you dimwit!
"Dear..."
The clone Sasuke was now tightening the hold on Hinata's hand.
"No!!! I don't want to hear it, okay?! Not in front of the kids!"
Naruto was so close to crying. He couldn't believe what was happening. He even came home early for a change and yet this was what he would see?
"Naruto-kun... Please listen to what we're about to say."
The blonde Hokage violently shook his head. No words coming out of his mouth.
"Naruto."
This time, the clone Sasuke called him. And Naruto couldn't describe how angry he got just by the single utterance of his name.
Naruto glared at him before looking sadly at his wife.
The two clones then looked at each other and smiled before finally facing Naruto once again.
Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Naruto just wanted to launch a punch on Sasuke but he held it together because his children were behind him.
"HAPPY APRIL FOOL'S DAY!!!"
The clones shouted at the top of their lungs before disappearing in a puff of white smoke.
Huh..?! Naruto was already expecting the two to say that they love each other but instead he heard them say Happy April Fool's?! What was that all about?
He immediately walked to where Hinata and Sasuke stood awhile ago trying to make sure he wasn't inside a genjutsu.
"Papa!"
Himawari's call fell into deaf ears.
"Tou-chan!!!"
Was that really Hinata and Sasuke? Why.. I.. I don't understand... Naruto was beyond confused with everything. He couldn't understand a single thing! But not until Boruto kneeled in front of him.
"Tou-chan! I'm sorry! It was all me! That wasn't Kaa-chan nor Sasuke-san. It was my clones! I'm sorry!!"
Himawari and Kawaki followed suit and kneeled as well.
"Papa! Nii-chan is right! This was just a prank! You see, today is April Fool's Day! It's a day where people pull some jokes and pranks on each other! Do you hear me, Papa? I'm really sorry! Even though it's just a prank I should've stopped this from happening! I'm sorry for making you mad!"
Himawari looked at Kawaki nudging his ribs in order for him to talk as well.
"Um.. I'm sorry, Tou-san. I just agreed to this stupidity because of the taiyaki. I'm sorry."
Naruto felt his knees giving up at what he just heard. Although he wasn't quite sure if it gave up out of sadness or relief.
"You three... You scared, Tou-chan, ya know? I.. I really thought your Kaa-chan left us... I really thought she left me."
Seeing the distressing look on their father, the trio quickly enveloped him in fierce and warm embrace hoping to make up for the stunt they just pulled.
"I'm sorry, Tou-chan... I won't do it ever again."

"Naruto-kun? I already talked with the kids especially Boruto. They finally understand the length of their mistakes."
Naruto turned and gazed lovingly his wife offering his right hand inviting her to sit with him on the bed.
Hinata quickly complied noticing the exhaustion gleaming on his eyes as she swiftly wrapped him into her arms.
"I'm sorry. I really thought they'd tell you that I was going to see Kiba-kun and Shino-kun. I never thought they were planning to pull a prank on you."
Hinata whispered as she massaged the blonde's hair.
Naruto rested his head on his wife's chest and sighed. He still couldn't believe everything that just occured. It happened so fast that he didn't even have the time to register all of the information.
"Are you sure you're Hinata? You're not Boruto's clone?"
Hinata slightly giggled at his question before humming a small yes.
"You're... You're not leaving me?"
Hinata felt a strong pang on her chest as she listened to his words. She couldn't help but remember the Naruto back in the day. She couldn't help but remember all the precious people he had to lose just to achieve peace the shinobi world desperately needed.
"I won't ever leave you, Naruto-kun. Never."
Hinata felt his arms around her waist as he nuzzled his face to her neck.
"Promise...?"
"I promise. You know that I never go back on my word, right?"
As he heard his wife's words of reassurance Naruto finally broke and released his tears while clinging to her like a child.
"I love you so much, Hinata. I don't want to lose you. I can't lose you..."
"You won't lose me, Naruto-kun."
Hinata continued to massage his blonde locks while placing soft kisses on his eyes and temple hoping to stop his sobs.
"I love you so much, Hinata..."
"I love you too, Naruto-kun..."
The couple stayed in that position for awhile until Naruto finally calmed down and stopped crying. Poor Naruto-kun...
"Hinata..."
"Hmm..?"
This time, the Hokage moved away a little bit from his wife and cupped her face.
"I don't like pranks anymore."
Naruto's eyes were puffy after all that crying but Hinata still managed to see his cute pout. She then giggled which startled Naruto.
"You? The number one prankster in Konoha? Hates pranks? Are you sure, Naruto-kun?"
"Um... I think it's okay if it's just a small prank. But... I don't think my heart could take a prank that huge, ya know? Small, light-hearted pranks are okay! Just... I just don't want pranks that involves you or the kids. I don't think I can take it."
Hinata gave up a small smile before placing a chaste kiss on her husband's lips.
"I don't think I can take it as well."
Naruto nestled on her neck once again feeling much better and secured. He just wished he could stay like this forever.
"Where does that kid get any ideas anyway?"
The Uzumaki questioned his wife while inhaling her soothing scent.
"Boruto told me that he asked Sai-kun for advice."
Naruto's eyes widened as he remembered everything that happened on the moon during Hanabi's abduction. Sai!!! You tattletale!!!
Hinata just laughed as she dove deeper into Naruto's warmth.
"Shall we sleep, Naruto-kun?"
The blonde Hokage moved back once more and looked Hinata in the eye.
"I don't want to sleep yet."
"Hmm, what should we do then?"
Hinata asked as she caressed her husband's whiskered cheeks.
"I need you."
The Byakugan Princess momentarily blushed with Naruto's words before enveloping him in a passionate kiss.
"I'm all yours..."

Ever since that fateful day, any kinds of pranks were now strictly prohibited inside the Uzumaki household.
