Summons

Summary:

Obito has had a long day of training when Kagami-sama decides to bring up a new and interesting idea while they're resting.

Work Text:

After a long day of training, Obito was glad to be able to lay down in the grass and relax. Give his aching muscles a chance to heal after all of the work he had put in.

While he relaxed, Kagami’s favorite summon, Akira, flew high above in the sky. Circling the area when Kagami and Obito had decided to enjoy their well deserved rest. A beautiful sceptical for Obito to watch.

“Have you ever thought of getting one of your own?” Tearing his eyes away from Akira, Obito returned his Sensei’s question with a confused look. “A summon. Not ever shinobi has one of course, but they’re handy to have if you find yourself in a tight spot. Or even if you just like the company.”

A summon of his own. It actually wasn’t something he had put too much thought into. He knew a lot of different summons, but none of them had ever seemed like a good fit for him. Shisui’s crows were a little too snooty for him, Sakura-Sensei’s slugs were just not something he could see himself summoning, and Kakashi’s hounds…

Well, those were Kakashi’s. Even if he was still in the hidden leaf Obito wouldn’t dare ask to sign a summoners contract with them. Kakashi had always been careful not to show it too much, but he was clearly attacked to them. Especially the small pug dog that he always had hanging out on his shoulder.

               Paddak?

               Puffun?

“Pakkun!” hearing himself calling out the name he slapped his hands over his face in a poor attempt to hide his embarrassment.

Kagami laughed at his outburst. “Pakkun is one summon, yes,” turning his eyes up towards the sky he watched his own summon just as Obito had been a minute ago. “But I don’t think Hounds are a good fit for you. What do you think?”

Dropping his hands to his side, Obito gave his head a shake. “Not at all,” he agreed. “Though, I’m not really sure what is a good fit for me. I haven’t really connected with any of the summons I’ve met.”

“That’s a lie?” Kagami chucked, giving his head a shake when Obito looked even more confused than before. “You and Akira get along splendidly. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her take to someone so easily. Even with me she nipped at me at least once before deciding I was worthy of signing the Owl’s summoner contract.’

“Akira?” Glancing back up at the owl in question, Obito couldn’t help but smile when he saw her deep brown eyes gazing back at him. “I hadn’t though of her. She’s your summon, isn’t she? I don’t want to take her from you.”

Holding up an arm, Kagami waited patiently for Akira to notice his gesture and swoop down towards him, perching herself on the offered limb with ease and ruffling her feathers when Kagami gave her a little scratch under her beak.

“I think Akira would like it if you signed a summoners contract with her,” he explained, keeping his eyes on the owl. “She thinks quite highly of you.”

Spreading out her wings, Akira gave them a quick shake. “Don’t give him an ego, Kagami,” she scolded her summoner. “His head is already too big for his shoulders.”

“Hey, I heard that!” Jumping to his feet, Obito got into Akira’s space. Something he instantly regrated when she nipped at his nose.

“Ahhh, there we go,” Kagami gave Akira a gentle pat on the head. “Now you’ve officially been accepted as a Summoner.”

Sitting on the ground with a hand over his nose, Obito huffed. None of this made any sense at all.

“I could think of worse summoners to have,” giving her feathers another ruffle, Akira settled back onto Kagami’s arm. “At least he’s not as hopeless as you, Kagami.”

               “H-hey! I’m not hopeless!”

Obito wasn’t really sure what was going on anymore, though it certainly was fun to watch his Sensei arguing with Akira. All he could really think of at that moment though was the excitement coursing through his body.

A summon. He was actually going to get a summon, just like Sakura-sensei, Kagami-sama, Shisui Nii-san.

               Just like Kakashi.
