Work Text:
Pat and Pran had decided on Thursday to watch "Coraline", even if they'd already watched the film 3 times before. It was one of their favorite animated movies although Pran loved to deny it was (he was always the one who recommended it) and Pat just loved whatever his boyfriend did. He also liked when Pran hugged him and hid behind him when the Other Mother appeared on screen.
It was 8:00pm on Friday when Pran heard a couple small well spaced knocks at his balcony door, he closed the textbook he was reading and walked to the door. He smiled when opening the balcony door and looking down the railing, seeing a smiling Pat with a small batch of pebbles in his left hand and waving with his right.
"God, you are such a cliche." Pran remarked with a laugh before reaching his arm down to help Pat climb up the railing and get onto the balcony.
Pat placed one hand in Pran's and another on one of the railing pillar. He looked into Pran's eyes and flashed a mischievous smirk before pulling onto the balcony with ease and kissing Pran on the cheek.
"Ai Pat!" Pran used his free hand to swipe at his cheek as he cussed out Pat.
Pat released his hand from Pran's and made his way over the railing to the inside of the platform. "I missed you," Pat whispered into his boyfriend's ear as he found his hand making it's way back into his Pran's hand.
Pran snickered at his boyfriend's clinginess, "I saw you yesterday." Pran lead Pat into his room hand-in-hand.
Pat made his usual way to his side of the bed and reassured Pran that he showered at home beforehand as reached for the remote, logging into his Youtube where he rented Coraline.
"Hey, I'm gonna go downstairs to make some popcorn. I didn't get the chance to buy a bag at the store."
Pran heard Pat mutter a small "Okayy," as he walked down the stairs. Pran's family was in the living room watching some gameshow as he put a bag of microwavable popcorn into the microwave and set the timer for 1 minute and 45 seconds.
"Making popcorn this late?" Pran's mom questioned.
Pran had already prepared his lie in advance to get his family to not come into his bedroom while Pat was over. "Yeah, studying all night since it's the weekend and just got some cravings. Don't bother me please okay?" Pran asked.
"Alright, just say goodnight before you go to bed."
Pran kissed them goodnight, he said goodnight every night. He was close to his family, he always had been, that's why it hurt to lie to them. But he knew they wouldn't accept them and Pat was too good to lose. Pat was one of the best things that happened to him, it just sucked that the boy he loved so badly was forbidden to him. So he had to hide him from the world, but his boyfriend was waiting for him upstairs and the popcorn was ready so there was no time to be sad. Pran poured the popped bag of popcorn into a big bowl and wished his family goodnight.
Pat was laying in the same spot Pran last saw him in, but Pran's spot on the bed was occupied. It was occupied by Pat's stuffed rabbit toy, Nong Hom, the toy he's had for years and had never washed once.
Pran sighed as he approached the bed, popcorn bowl in hand, "When are you gonna wash that thing?"
"Mm..Never." Pat focused him attention to his boyfriend and smiled, he knew how much Pran hated the dirty rabbit, that's why he put it in his spot.
"Just keep it on your side." Pran picked up the rabbit up by the ear and threw it to Pat's side of the bed with as little contact with it as possible.
Pran tossed aside the throw blanket and handed the popcorn bowl to his boyfriend so he can settle onto the bed.
Pat wrapped his arm around Pran, "Okay, I got it all set up, let the horror began!" Pat said that everytime Coraline started because he knew Pran would laugh at it.
The movie started as Pran tucked into Pat's arm. The first 15 minutes of the film were started like usual, with Pran pointing out all the signs that Coraline's parents set her up and Pat saying he was looking too deep into it, basically being devil's advocate for the parents. He actually believed Pran's theory but he liked bickering with him too much to admit it. Even if Pran knew to an extent that Pat just liked disagreeing with him. The popcorn was split with a line drew of hot sauce, one side covered in it, the other not. Pat ate his popcorn with hot sauce -- Pran did not. They were so different, but that was what they loved about each other.
They were about 20 minutes into movie before they heard it. -It- being a knock on the door, the door to the bedroom, in which they were cuddling. Obviously Pran's doors been visited while Pat was over, but most of the time Pran was able to shoo them away without them even entering the room. And if they did Pran would signal to Pat beforehand to leave through the balcony, but those were all just weekday visits -not- movie night. They didn't make such an effort on not getting caught and instead on just enjoying each others company.
Pran quietly got up from the bed and told Pat to stay there and not make a sound. "Um, I'll try to get them to leave but I'll signal to you if i need you to hide, don't leave." Pran didn't want Pat to leave even if he couldn't get the person who was knocking away since, well, it was movie night with his boyfriend and he didn't want it to end so early.
Pat whispered a small "Okay," as he slowly pulled the bowl and the blanket away from his lap incase he needed to hide.
Pran walked down the stairs towards the door, turning back to look at Pat for a quick second, and opened the door just a crack. Enough to see that it was his mom, holding a plant?
"Uh, hi Ma. I'm studying, what is it?" Pran asked, eager to get her to just say something and leave.
"Pran, I forgot to mention I found this beautiful snake plant at a flea market for free! Can't you believe it? I think it'll look nice on your bedside table, since it doesn't need sunlight." Pran's mom invited herself in before Pran stopped her.
Pran swiftly blocked her path with the door. "Oh yes, this would be great. Thank you Ma. Goodnight!" Pran attempted to grab the potted plant, but failed as his mom removed his hand from the snake plant.
His mom shooed away his hand. Her focus still on the plant, holding it up a bit to get a better look under the lighting. "I know exactly what spot to put it, I need to tell you how to take care of it too. Let me in."
Pran started to panic a bit. "Uh, okay let me just clean my room a bit please?"
His mom muttered a small "Mm." of approval while still holding up the plant, rotating it now to see it from all sides.
Pran swiftly made his way up the stairs to see Pat already making the bed and putting textbooks on the table.
"I heard. I'll just go." he whispered defeatedly.
"No nonono don't. Um, just hide under the bed. If you fit." Pran keep his voice low, slightly snickering at the small jab. Pat's pretty muscular, but he'll probably fit under the bed.
Pat's face turned into a smile, "Okay." He finished erasing any evidence he was ever there and started moving some stuff under the bed to make room for himself.
Pat hastily made his way back to door and let his mom in. He was sweating bullets. His mom and his boyfriend were both in his room, at the same time.
"I thought you didn't like spicy food?" Pran's mom commented as she noticed the popcorn bowl on the table.
Pran scrambled to make up a lie, "Uh- I just wanted to try it." He decided to change the topic. "Okay so where did you want to put the plant?"
"Ah yes, okay so..." Pran's mom started talking about the plant and walked towards Pat's side of the bed to the table she wanted the plant on. Pran's mom and boyfriend were less than 5 feet apart from each other.
Pran's mom cleared Pat's bedside table "Right here is good a spot since the plant won't need a lot of - what's that?" His mom put down the plant and reached for something hidden behind the pillows on the bed. It was Nong Hom stuffed in between 2 of 4 pillows against the bed frame.
She pulled out the rabbit by it's floppy ear and held it exactly like Parn did early, with as little contact with it as possible. "This is gross! Pran how could you keep this so dirty? I'm gonna add it to the wash."
He could imagine the look on Pat's face. "No! Um, it's okay. I'll hand wash it later." Pran reached out to grab the rabbit.
His mom pulled her arm away from out of Pran's reach, "No no, this needs to be specially washed." She inspected the stuffed animal rabbit.
That rabbit meant too much to Pat for her to take it and wash it. "Please Ma. Let me. It means a lot to me, can you just let me?" Pran pleaded to his mom. He reached his hand to the stuffed animal and grabbed it by it's head.
"Alright. I can tell you're passionate about it. The eyes are the window to the soul." His mom laughed, releasing Nong Hom from her grip.
Pran sighed out of relief and hugged the rabbit before tucking it under his arm.
"The snake plant is really low maintenance, so it'll be really easy to take care of. Just atleast water it every 2 weeks." She stepped towards that stairs, took one last look at the room, and walked down the stairs out the door.
The second Pran heard the door close he walked towards the bed to find Pat already pulling out from under it. It took a little bit for Pat to get completely out from under the bed, since he was under the middle of it. Once he was out Pran held his free arm out to help his boyfriend up.
Pran sighed as Pat stood, "That was close."
Pat had other concerns.
"Is Nong Hom okay? She didn't take him right?" Pat asked, breath held.
Pran giggled a bit at his boyfriend's worry for the stuffed animal, "He's fine sadly. Here's your dirty rabbit." He pulled Nong Hom from under his arm and handed it to Pat.
Pat immediately pulled the rabbit into hug and looked up at his boyfriend smiling, "Don't think I didn't hear you, 'It means a lot to me', the holding him under your arm, you love himmm." Pat jeered, smiling wider.
"Whatever, let's restart the movie, I'll show you how Caroline's parents suck." Pran hid his smile.
