Chapter 1: Part 1

Chapter Text

EXT. PARK CITY.
Establishing shot of the small city at night. It’s more comforting locales, like the park for which the city is named, contrast with the dark shadows of alleys.
Pull towards a lavish building with the blinds drawn.

INT. LEO SCARLIONE’S OFFICE.
LEO “THE LION” SCARLIONE, a mob boss, sits at his desk, talking to a woman, CIRCE. Next to her stands her right hand, PERCY PLAYBOY. Scarlione’s desk is flanked by several gangsters.

Leo:
But, Circ’, hon, I got my boys looking everywhere for it. I’m even getting the paperwork in to start some demolitions.

Circe looks away from him momentarily and winks at one of Scarlione’s men, who blushes and gulps. Circe smirks to herself, as she turns back to Scarlione, who is still speaking.

Leo (cont’d):
We’ll get cranes, we’ll get-

Circe sighs, snapping her fingers.

Circe:
Like all men, you only prattle on like this when you want something from me.

Leo:
Listen, I’m happy to keep-

Circe’s eyes flash with magic.

Circe:
What is it, Leo?

Leo:
Now, if you could just tell me what we’re looking for-

Circe laughs.

Circe:
We’ve discussed this before. You’ll know when I need you to.

She pauses.

Circe (cont’d):
All that matters is you’ll get your fill of power, and...so will I.

She turns around and begins to exit.
Playboy gives Leo a nod before following her.

EXT. DINAH DRAKE’S FLOWER SHOP- Evening.
To establish.

INT. DINAH DRAKE’S OFFICE.
DINAH DRAKE sits at her desk, looking over a file.

DINAH DRAKE (VOICE-OVER):
It was another long evening of work like they all were-are. In my time as Black Canary, I’ve done what I can for Park, but the city keeps finding a way to throw problems at me.

She sighs and looks up towards a clock.

DINAH DRAKE (VOICE-OVER):
A quick glance at the clock told me I’d probably been here too long, and that I’d probably be here a lot longer.
Maybe I could’ve wheeled in my dying tv, watched a couple detective movies, while I worked. I thought better of it. I’ve seen too many as it is, but can you really blame me? Handsome guys, and god, those beautiful girls, what more could I want?

Dinah marks something on the file.

DINAH DRAKE (VOICEOVER):
The films, they always start with the hero in his office, and then he gets a visitor, a lot of times it’s a girl. The girl, really. That’s when things get going.

The door to her flower shop opens. In her office, she hears a bell ring.

DINAH DRAKE (VOICEOVER):
This one’s no exception.

She gets up, and walks over to a dresser, she begins pulling off her jacket, when suddenly her door opens.
She turns to it, to see HIPPOLYTA standing there.
As she enters the room, pulling off her coat, Dinah takes a second to look her over.

DINAH DRAKE (VOICEOVER):
She was tall, taller than me, by a good foot. Probably around 6’4”/6’5”. Built too. Arms like tree trunks. But I don’t mind, I’ve always liked big girls.

Dinah cocks her head to the side and smiles.

Dinah:
Well, what brings a beautiful dame like you down to my office?

Hippolyta furrows her brows.

Hippolyta:
What do you-? Oh.

Hippolyta then smiles, closing the door behind her.

Hippolyta (cont’d):
You are the famous Dinah Drake? No?

DINAH DRAKE (VOICEOVER):
She was greek, I could tell. It was probably the accent. When she stepped under the light her olive skin glistened slightly, like it was more than human… In the light I could see a few scars on her arms, she wasn’t half the damsel in distress she let on.

Dinah looks up into Hippolyta’s eyes.

Dinah:
It depends on who’s asking, beautiful.

DINAH DRAKE (VOICEOVER):
Her blue eyes were striking. They were beautiful but hard, always wary, always judging. Though I saw softness in them, and I was just about willing to dig until I got to it.

Dinah affectionately strokes Hippolyta’s cheek.

Hippolyta:
Just an admirer. ...I need assistance, from someone of your profession.

Dinah:
Well, then I’ll see what I can do to help.

DINAH DRAKE (VOICEOVER):
I had a feeling that wasn’t going to be so difficult, I mean, I already knew her. Because unlike most of the girls in the movies, she was already my girlfriend.

Hippolyta smiles and pulls her up into a passionate kiss, and they begin to make out.
Hippolyta softly speaks to Dinah, as they kiss.

Hippolyta:
I missed you, my love.

Dinah:
I missed you too.

Dinah pecks Hippolyta on the lips.

Dinah (cont’d):
You came early.

Hippolyta:
Yes-

She pauses, to kiss Dinah.

Hippolyta (cont’d):
-I have been having a long day. I wanted to see you.

Dinah:
Transformation island stuff?

Hippolyta nods.

Hippolyta:
How did you know?

Dinah’s shoulders shrug, as she strokes Hippolyta’s cheek. Hippolyta smiles, then sighs.

Hippolyta (cont’d):
The inmates were trying much of my patience.

Dinah:
Yeah? Well, let me get your mind off of it, Polly.

She leans up, and continues kissing her.
In the interval between kisses, Hippolyta lifts Dinah.

Hippolyta:
It is your birth month, my songbird. Why don’t I treat you instead?

Hippolyta sets Dinah on her desk, pulling Dinah’s jacket off her as she kisses her. Hippolyta bends down to kiss Dinah’s neck, Dinah leans her head back.

Dinah:
Mmh...I think I can live with this.

Hippolyta smiles, pulling Dinah into a kiss, when suddenly the radio on the desk springs to life.

Police Radio:
We’ve got a, uh, 417, at the Park. Four suspects, two have weapons. The other two seem to be digging? Requesting backup, to disarm the situation. Over.

Hippolyta and Dinah both finish listening to the radio, Dinah looks up at Hippolyta, she smiles.

Dinah:
...You wanna go stop a public disturbance?

EXT. Streets of Park City.
BLACK CANARY and WONDER WOMAN shoot through the streets. Black Canary on her motorcycle, Wonder Woman soaring above her.

EXT. THE PARK.
CRIMINAL 1 and CRIMINAL 4 stand watch with guns, while CRIMINAL 2 and CRIMINAL 3 dig.

Criminal 1:
This is some real dirty work, but it’s a lot better than the mint fiasco. No Justice Society.

Criminal 4:
I don’t know, they could-uh- always show.

Criminal 4 looks around, nervous.

Criminal 2:
That was not our finest moment.

Criminal 2 looks down at the dirt.

Criminal 2 (cont’d)
And neither is this.

Criminal 3:
At least it brought us together.

Criminal 1:
Exactly! It brought us together! Now we can do out-of-the-way jobs, ain’t nobody gonna care about some dirt.

Criminal 4:
Well...this is Black Canary’s city.

Criminal 3:
What, she’s gonna show up and kick us?

Criminal 2:
That I wouldn’t mind. I mean, almost nobody could get me to talk, but that Black Canary could make me sing like a bird-

Criminal 3:
C’mon. Don’t be a weirdo. Just help me dig.

Criminal 1:
Hey, if she shows, she’ll be Wonder Woman-less, that’s all that matters.

Criminal 4:
Uh, guys?

Criminal 3:
Not now-

He turns his head towards 4.

Criminal 3 (cont’d):
Oh, nuts.

They all turn to see Black Canary leaning on Wonder Woman’s shoulder. She smiles.

Black Canary:
I’m sure you boys have the proper permit for those, so-

The criminals begin firing, Black Canary dives, and rolls, as Wonder Woman deflects the bullets.
Black Canary springs up, and punches criminal 4 across the face, he goes down.
As criminal 1 aims for Black Canary, Wonder Woman tosses her lasso around the gun, tearing it from his grasp. Black Canary kicks him in the stomach, then picks him up, and tosses him towards Hippolyta, who catches him.
Criminals 2 & 3 watch the fighting, criminal 3 starts to run, criminal 2 brandishes his shovel.
Suddenly Wonder Woman’s lasso wraps around him, he looks disappointed and then is thrown into a tree.
Black Canary sprints for 3, while Wonder Woman lifts 1 off the ground with her lasso.
Black Canary is about to punch 3 when she hears a voice cry out.

Johnny Thunder:
Save some for me, Canary!

Black Canary turns to see JOHNNY THUNDER, a blonde young man in a green suit, arriving. Her face drops.

Black Canary:
Oh no.

Johnny smiles, then raises his pink pen to the sky.

Johnny Thunder:
CEI-U!

Suddenly pink lightning crackles around Johnny’s pen, and THE THUNDERBOLT shoots from it, he zips around Johnny a couple times.

Thunderbolt:
What do you need, boss?

Johnny:
Just stop them, T-bolt!

Thunderbolt:
On it!

The thunderbolt zips towards Hippolyta.

Wonder Woman:
What in Hades-?

The thunderbolt zips inside of the lasso, pink lightning courses through it. The criminal inside of the lasso is electrocuted, and so is Wonder Woman. She drops to the floor, with the criminal.
He then zips by Black Canary, grabbing and throwing Criminal 3. He loop-de-loops around her three times, in the background criminal 3 gets up and runs away.
Black Canary looks annoyed as the Thunderbolt zips away, and blows a strand of her hair out of her face.
Wonder Woman gets to her feet and looks over to see criminal 1 rubbing his head confused.
Suddenly the thunderbolt shoots past her, and through a tree.
The tree comes to life and lifts criminal 2, who looks panicked, into the air.
Wonder Woman sighs and then shoots towards the tree. She punches it backwards. It drops criminal 2, who runs away.
Wonder Woman sees this, becoming even more annoyed, as the trees tendrils attempt to grab her.
She shrugs off the branches, then violently shoots her hand into the tree, and tears it apart.
She lands on the ground and turns toward Dinah. Who looks agitated.

Black Canary:
Mine got away.

Wonder Woman:
Mine as well-

She turns to Criminal 4, who is still unconscious, and gives Black Canary a reassuring smile.

Wonder Woman (cont’d):
At least we have apprehended this one.

Black Canary:
Right.

Wonder Woman turns to Johnny and Thunderbolt.

Wonder Woman:
Now, who are you?

Johnny Thunder:
Oh, me? Canary knows me! I’m-

Black Canary:
His name’s Johnny Thunder, I’ve worked with him a couple of times. Reluctantly. The kid’s heart’s in the right place-

She turns to Johnny and glares.

Black Canary (cont’d)
-but his magic thunderbolt usually isn’t.

Johnny awkwardly rubs his head.

Johnny Thunder:
Gee, Canary, I’m real sorry I let those guys get away.

Black Canary crosses her arms and turns away.
Wonder Woman sighs and looks towards Johnny.

Wonder Woman:
It is alright. We have all made mistakes, but it is important to be sure to learn from them.

She looks over at the annoyed Dinah and gives her a little nod. After a moment Dinah uncrosses her arms and looks toward Johnny.

Black Canary:
Yeah... it’s ok. Johnny, why don’t you find a phone box, and call the police? Tell them we’ve got a guy for them.

Johnny:
Sure thing, Canary!

He and his thunderbolt race off.
Black Canary watches him leave, then turns to Wonder Woman.

Black Canary:
He’s a good kid, mostly, but… he gets on my nerves.

Wonder Woman gently takes Dinah’s hand and strokes it.

Wonder Woman:
I could tell.

They stand there for a moment.

Black Canary:
That was sweet how you spoke to him, all patient-

She reaches over and strokes Hippolyta’s cheek.

Black Canary (cont’d):
-you’re a real sweetheart sometimes.

Wonder Woman:
I try.

They exchange smiles, then Canary turns toward criminal 4, she punches her hand.

Black Canary:
You want me to find out what they wanted?

Wonder Woman:
I will take this one. You can be quite persuasive, but you seem a touch angry, my love, and I think you’ve likely hit him enough today.

Black Canary smiles up at Wonder Woman.

Black Canary:
Yeah, probably.

She steps aside, as Wonder Woman steps toward the criminal. She pulls out her lasso and tosses it around him.

Wonder Woman:
What were you after?

The criminal struggles for a second, then it all comes out.

Criminal 4:
Scarlione sent us. Leo Scarlione. He wanted us to dig for something, I don’t know why. He wouldn’t tell us, we tried to ask him, but he said it was a no-go. Then that witch came in-

Wonder Woman:
Witch?

Criminal 4:
I don’t know her name, she’s got magenta hair.

This strikes Wonder Woman.

Criminal 4 (cont’d):
She scares the hell outta me...but then again so do most things-

Wonder Woman:
You do not know why you were sent?

Criminal 4:
Not really, no.

Wonder Woman looks over to see the cops pulling up.

Wonder Woman:
It seems your ride is here.

EXT. THE PARK- Minutes later.
Black Canary leaves the cops, who are taking criminal 4 away, and walks up to Wonder Woman, who looks a little shaken.

Black Canary:
Hey, you ok?

She leans up and gently kisses her.

Wonder Woman:
I’m fine.

Black Canary looks unconvinced.

Black Canary:
Kay... Don’t worry, this isn’t exactly abnormal for Park, but we'll figure out what this means tomorrow, I know a guy we can talk to. For now...You wanna get dinner?

Wonder Woman smiles.

Wonder Woman:
That sounds lovely.

Black Canary takes her hand, and they begin walking away, becoming silhouettes, their sounds slowly becoming more muffled.
A black canary flutters down onto Black Canary’s free hand, she looks over at it, then turns to Wonder Woman.

Black Canary:
You want to ride on my bike? You can hold on to me, if you need.

Wonder Woman laughs.

Wonder Woman:
I do not think so.

As their silhouettes exit the park, Black Canary’s head leans on Wonder Woman’s shoulder.

Black Canary:
It was worth a shot.

Pull back from them, and draw up over the city, to a warehouse.

INT. WAREHOUSE.
Circe reads, and levitates, a book in front of her, the pages flipping through magic, when behind her the door opens. She closes the book in her hand. The book’s cover reads “Greek Stories” with the byline reading “Castellanos”
She turns to see the criminals from the park entering, behind her is a bulletin board with a map of Park City, multiple locations are crossed out.
Criminal 1 seems surprised to see her.

Criminal 1:
Where’s Scarlione-?

Circe:
Busy. --Did you find it?

Criminal 1:
Not yet, Black Canary showed up-

Circe nods, beginning to turn away, bored.

Criminal 2:
Wonder Woman too-

Circe turns back, surprised and even a touch angry.

Circe:
Wonder Woman?

She stands for a moment, then her lips then curl into a smile.

Circe (cont’d):
I suppose it was only a matter of time until we ran into each other-

She turns to a poster of Wonder Woman, that had clearly been on the wall a while, with “buy war bonds” written across the bottom.

Circe (cont’d):
-Hippolyta.

She blasts the poster with mystic energy, leaving the wall charred.
