In return, Francis allows himself to give the affirmation James so clearly craves. He starts slow – tells James he looks nice. Nice – that’s it. But James beams and Francis can hardly breathe for how beautiful he looks doing it. After that it’s more of a struggle to do anything but praise him, what with how he laps it up so eagerly. Francis compliments anything and everything he can think of, worried at first that he may be laying it on too thick (Sophia had once accused him of smothering) but James visibly blossoms at the praise.
