He couldn’t tell how many widows he turned down this evening, but it was enough for him already. His head was aching, the scents of the perfumes around him only adding to the pulsing and throbbing pain in his temples. Oh, and how much he yearned to get out of the uniform the ambassador made him wear tonight.
Maker, what would he give to be clad in his armour instead, to fight demons on the battlefield even. It would’ve been far more manageable than standing here, swarmed by Chevalier’s, Lord’s and Ladies alike that wanted his attention.
Yet, all he wanted was to be left alone in his misery for tonight. Formal events were always more than he was willing to put up with, and the Winter Palace wasn’t any better in that regard. Quite the contrary, he loathed this place already swarmed with snobby Orlesians, all looking for their gain.
It just was… not his world.
