Chapter 1: Terms and Conditions Apply

Chapter Text

"Good Morning, I'm here to see Ms. Diana Prince."

"Delivery?"

"Uh...Yes."

"What name?"

Despite a clearing of her throat the receptionist had yet to look up and continued typing away on her computer.

"Name?"

"Lena... Lena Luthor."

It startled the poor woman who stood up immediately, "Lu- Apologies Ms. Luthor, would you like me to carry those?"

"No. I would like to take these to Ms. Prince myself."

"Yes, of course! I'll take you to her. Please right this way."

Before the woman could round her desk they were stopped.

"Lena!" Kara hurried toward her in her high heels, playing hooky from Andrea if her guess was correct.

"Kara. I thought you had a meeting this morning."

"Yea well I left to follow a lead on an article..." Kara adjusted her glasses, "obviously."

Lena smiled, "And what story would that be?"

"Maybe why National City's Luthor is visiting the museum...with, the most beautiful flowers," Kara teased.

"Ms. Danvers, I were under the impression you were above reporting gossip."

"Danvers...as in Kara Danvers from CatCo Magazine?" the bewildered receptionist asked.

"Yes hi, sorry."

"Wow. It's so good to meet you. I read your articles all the time. They're always shining a light on things in National City people overlook."

Lena's smile was wide and proud, yet she took the opportunity to tease, "And Supergirl."

Kara's seriousness was comically contrived as she shook the woman's hand in thanks, "I always aim to bring the truth out into the open."

"Is there anything I can help you with?" the woman was clearly having a day.

"I'm here to see Diana. Ms. Prince? Ms. Diana Prince please."

"Are you sure you have the name right?" Lena rose her brow sarcastically.

"Wow. It's only her first day here..." the receptionist marvelled, "please both of you follow me."

"What do you mean by that?" Kara inquired as they made their way through the corridors of National City Museum.

"Ms. Prince doesn't ever have a dull moment does she? The first time she was here, there was a robbery. The items she came to secure got stolen on our watch and well we thought she'd never want anything to do with us again. Yet here she is. Working here." They turned a corner, "She could work anywhere. She was working in Paris for crying out loud. This might as well be nowhere to her."

"Maybe she saw something she liked in National City," Lena suggested cheekily, earning a look from Kara.

Leaving the Louvre was perhaps the easiest part of Diana's entire move to National City. So much so, it was one of the last things she did outside of physically packing her belongings. She didn't even have to resign, she was offered secondment to National City Museum for as long as she desired. The arrangements and paperwork were finished for her by the end of the same day.

Her level of quiet influence was baffling. Diana had only answered to the Louvre's director and was given complete autonomy to do as she pleased. Work on whatever, whenever, wherever with whoever.

"Whatever it was, it has been a whirlwind week trying to get everything in place for her arrival. One of our curators even gave up his office so she could have a bigger one. They really want to make a good impression this time around. I've never seen this place this buzzing before."

Thanks to Lena's discreet snooping (hacking), she found out just how highly respected Diana was worldwide, by curators, historians and archaeologist, who actually knew what they were doing. Veterans were eager to have her around and knew better than to question Diana's worth, even if they didn't quite understand the full extent of it.

'Having Diana around in a museum is like having Herodotus around explain antiquity one artifact at a time.' That was the beaming praise that Lena and Kara stumbled upon from a complaint lodged by a Lord Richard Croft about a twenty years ago to The British Museum. Apparently Diana left The British Museum less than a three months in, due to a disagreement with the Keeper of the Greek Collection. There was no mention of what the spat was about, but many were outraged at Diana's departure and the Keeper subsequently resigned several months after. While a more generous offer was extended to her thereafter, Diana was already granted all the perks and freedom she desired in Paris.

"And then on her first day all these deliveries, like if they were just waiting for her to get here."

"Deliveries?" Lena's brow lowered.

The receptionists stopped in her tracks and bit her lip nervously, "I've said too much haven't I?"

"All that has been said is totally off the record," Kara assured.

The woman led them the rest of the way in silence. She stopped at a door and knocked before entering.

"Ms. Prince, Ms Luthor and Ms. Danvers are here to see you."

"Doris please, call me Diana. And thank you, please send then in."

The door was opened wide for the visitors to enter.

The office was surprisingly small, half the size of Lena's, and already quite crowded, with several crates stacked on each other to the corners. Diana was busy personalizing her walls with cultural trinkets.

Doris the receptionist closed the door behind her.

"Forgive the mess, I did not expect you both here," Diana closed the small distance and kissed both Lena and Kara on the cheeks.

"That's usually what surprises entail," Lena quipped and offered her large arrangement of deep red roses.

Diana inhaled deeply, taking in their sweet smell before hooded eyes locked onto the tiny woman, "They're lovely."

"They match your outfit," Lena's hungry green eyes raked over Diana's body. For Diana, her outfit was relaxed yet equally devastating. No authoritative pants suit on her first day, but her high waisted black pencil skirt and red long sleeve did not conceal any of her curves, however her knee high boots indicated she was not to be trifled with.

Diana set the arrangement on her desk, "And Kara brought lunch I hope? Lena looks so very hungry."

"No I brought you....this!" Kara shuffled through her handbag. "It's...a planner," a black one with a small red bow on it, "It's a Danvers family tradition, first day of school you get a planner, first day of work...it's stupid, I should have brought something better."

Diana however had a solemn expression that halted Kara's rambling, "It's very thoughtful of you. Thank you for including me in your family traditions. I'm honoured." She had this way of making trivial things more meaningful.

"Not to be left out, I also performed the proud Luthor tradition of thorough background checks on the establishment and all its employees." It earned a chuckle from Diana. "You'll be happy to know that this has to be the most squeaky clean place I've ever come across. It would explain why the National City Museum only manages to break even."

"While I'm here perhaps I can make some positive changes. As you can see I've already received a generous donation of artifacts that may gather interest," she gestured to the corner of her office.

The unsightly crates made her small office even more cramped. It was the logo stamped on all of them that made Lena green when she finally noticed.

Wayne.

All Lena's investigations had come to a screeching halt when an email popped into her inbox. Bruce Wayne once again with a single sentence, "Snooping around is unnecessary when you are in an easy position to ask for the truth."

Diana sat on the edge of her desk studied the smaller woman's reaction.

Lena herself was unsure of how to feel about the conundrum of Bruce Wayne.

"So these are from Bruce Wayne's private collection?" Kara inquired.

Kara was far more receptive about the man and managed to convince her girlfriend, that Bruce was only looking out for Diana by monitoring anyone who was trying to find out about her. Diana did have a big secret to keep.

"No. Not quite...His note said he was spring cleaning and needed to get rid of some old junk. That they aren't priceless but are antiquated enough to catch someone's eye in this museum. I have to sort through them."

Checking her possessiveness over Diana however was something Lena promised herself that she'd work on. Diana was Amazon, there was something intrinsically untamed about her. Like you could never fully have her. And especially since they agreed to Diana's terms first.

Still, Lena enjoyed making a show if it. Besides, it was her that had the balls to ask Diana to stay.

Lena closed the distance between herself and Diana, "Perhaps I should challenge Mr. Wayne to a duel. Put that playboy in his place for suggesting that you're old and not priceless."

Her bravado at the least amused the Amazon. At the most, well, Diana's eyes blew out before her and Lena surged forward to claim the juicy lips waiting for her.

Kara's jaw dropped at Lena's aggression. It was so hot. The way she grabbed Diana's face and owned her mouth. Conversely it was Diana who held Lena gently by her waist. You'd swear Lena was the savage between them.

Kara cleared her throat loudly.

"Hmmm," it was Lena who stopped, "I don't think Kara has mentally recovered after what we did to her in my office."

"Also- this office is really small and is full of fragile artifacts... we might break stuff," Kara countered.

"It's about the same size as the one I had D.C...."

"D.C?....as in The Smithsonian!? Is there a famous museum you haven't worked in?" Kara asked incredulously.

Diana chuckled, "I appreciate your chivalry but a duel with Bruce is unnecessary. Especially when I'd much prefer you duel me instead."

Lena frowned sceptically as she disentangled out of the Amazon's arms, realizing the jest had gone too far.

"Hopefully we'll talk about it later on," Diana assured with a wink.

Hopefully they could all make this work.

"We'll let you get back to it," Kara suggested and kissed Diana goodbye.

"I'll see you both later," Diana's warm, winning smile was the last vision of her as they left.

Tonight would officially be the first night with them. (Outside of the extra week she stayed so she could discuss her terms.) Diana didn't even unpack anything this morning before she was called to the museum to receive a large shipment of items. Courtesy of Wayne no doubt.

They all agreed that Lena's suite was the largest so they'd move in there. The guest room could be converted to a shared closet. Not that Diana brought a tonne of stuff- one suitcase of the essentials. Everything else either went into safe keeping or easily replaceable. Immortals knew how to travel light.

Neither Kara nor Lena had thought they'd have to agree to Diana's non negotiable rules for this to happen. Not that they'd ever considered something like this could happen.

First of Diana's rules was that they should always choose each other first. From the little things like picking a partner at game night, to who to protect in a dangerous situation.

Her second condition was that the door always had to be open for her comings and goings or not at all. That she would eventually have to leave abruptly for unspecified times without elaboration and if that wasn't something they could deal with then they shouldn't begin.

Now, it was understandable that Diana would have made promises long before they were born that she would honour. However, in the same breath, what if it were Bruce Wayne that summoned her? Lena wasn't sure she could accept that. It was Kara who was confident that Diana wouldn't do anything dishonourable if she had committed herself to a relationship with them. Lena accepted the premise and was enough to still the troubled waters of that potential deal breaker.

Which brought them to her final term. That if at anytime they became uncomfortable with her presence, they should tell her immediately and she would leave without argument. Diana insisted that she was the one imposing on their relationship and that she would not allow her presence to detract from their love for each other.

Kara and Lena were bamboozled by this since they were quite ready to give Diana equal share in their merger. She more than earned it. It was Diana's proximity to them that was keeping the real Devil at bay. She was the anomaly that Lex couldn't account for. Her presence allowed everything between Kara and Lena to happen so openly at all.

In Lena's mind, it seemed like Diana was expecting them to get rid of her eventually and she gave them a tidy way of ending things. That her usefulness to them would come to an inevitable end. But Diana was more to them than being a thorn in Lex's side. They would just have to show her. Show her how much she was loved. Besides who wouldn't want to live with an immortal Amazon Princess?

A demi-goddess...

Lena stopped in her tracks wide eyed in the empty hall between unknown pieces of art work. Her heart racing suddenly.

"What's wrong?"

"Kara, do you realize we've invited a literal demi-goddess to live with us?"

"Uh...yeah...why do you say it like that?" Kara twisted her face at Lena.

"There's a magnitude of responsibility here...we have just started a relationship with a piece of divinity."

Kara's frown deepened, "Lena maybe don't think about it like that."

"How can you not?"

"Wha- well...Lena..." she lowered her voice and leaned closer, "...you have been dating an alien for quite some time. Not just any alien - Supergirl. But I like that I'm just Kara when I'm with you. The same way we don't think of you as a Luthor... you're just Lena. I don't think Diana wants anything different than that," Kara leaned back to give her an endearing, soft smile.

And Lena's heart melted a little.  She looked away and smiled. They were excessively abnormal individuals who found that they could be completely themselves in each other's company. It was hard for Lena to believe how lucky she was for lightning to strike at her twice in her lifetime.

"You're right." This magic didn't need overthinking Lena looped her arm around Kara with restored contentment, "Thank you. You help me every day."

Nestled close to each other, they made their way arm in arm to the exit of the National City Museum, excited to begin this new adventure with Diana.
