But Someone Loved Me

Summary:

One day on the news...

Inspired by bluekriket.cos on TikTok, and their godtier cosplay of Alex S-Tier.
And this tiktok in particular: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZML1Cx7KN/

Notes:

As Kriket says in the video, this is not Canon, just some angst, but I wanted to explore it a little bit.

All credit goes to bluekriket.cos and lighthouseraiders for the ideas and characters.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

There is a void in Alex’s heart.

There has been since before they can remember, but for some time now, it was filled with the warmth and comfort of someone precious to them. A dangerous thing to have for an S-Tier supervillain, with heroes who aren’t afraid to kill them. Or other villains. But it’s nice to have someone to come back to after the little league of dumbasses fails to kill them once again.

It’s just another day. Warm. The lights are on in their lair, and they walk in with the assumption that either their minions are there, or Morgan is, and either way they can relax a little bit. Because even if Morgan isn’t home, they will be soon, and that’s just as good. They smile, and the void in their heart is almost unnoticeable, even as they go to the kitchen and start preparing dinner for their friend to come home to, humming as they consider ingredients.

It’s while they’re debating between pasta with funny shapes or just plain macaroni, and who are they kidding, they’re going with the funny shapes, when one of their minions comes up, holding a phone, and a panicked expression, and…

“Boss… Alex, the news…”

Their minions almost never call them by name. It’s odd, a little thing among them, their insistence on calling them Boss instead of Alex, but it’s something they’ve never really been able to break them of, though they haven’t really tried that hard.

Morgan is in the news.

“Morgan! No!”

Morgan isn’t moving as the news anchor goes on in the background.

“Stop! Please…”

Someone is begging, shouting as they watch the footage.

MORGAN !”

They are begging, shouting at the footage, begging it to change, begging Morgan to get up.

“... get up…”

There’s silence around them, and the void in Alex’s heart has never been more empty than now. There’s so much pain in their chest, and they can hear themself talking to their minion, voice deceptively calm.

“Find that hero.”

They feel almost detached as they walk away from the kitchen, not really sure where they’re going, until they find themself in Morgan’s room, clinging to a shirt as they whisper all the promises they never got to tell their dearest friend.

… there is a void in Alex’s heart. And the one thing that could fill it is now gone. Forever.
