“We are almost there” Guren announced looking at the rearview mirror.
“Are you nervous?” Shinya asked gently turning around to take the hand of the little girl seated on the back sit off the car. His daughter. Their daughter. His and Guren’s. The little girl nodded but smiled too.
If someone had told Shinya a few years ago that he would be married to Guren and adopting a child together, he would have laughed at the stupidity of the idea, although, craving for it deep inside his heart.
It felt so long ago that they defeated Sika Madu, and they managed to resurrect humanity. Shinya got his memories back. All of them. Including his death in Guren’s arms. And he now understood why his stupid best friend had to keep secrets from him. At first he was mad, mad at Guren for breaking his promise, for trying to play hero all by himself. But Shinya would have done everything in his power to save Guren, if things had been reversed, so in the end, he couldn’t blame him.
Shinya was just happy to have his family back, no more secrets or betrayals between them. He also finally accepted that Byakomaru was right, his feelings for Guren were no longer just friendship, he was in love with his best friend. But he was happy to just be by his side. So Shinya could not believe it when Guren, awkwardly, asked him out. He was also shocked about everyone’s reaction to the news of Guren and himself dating. No one was that surprised. “Called it!” “I’m so happy for you too! You deserve it!” “Dude, you owe me money, I told you it was gonna happen!” “But… weren’t you together like… before?” “I do not want to see any improper behaviour on the hallways” “I do want to see it! That’s hot!” “When it’s the wedding?!”
They took it slow, but eventually they did get married, surrounded by all their loved ones. And some vampires who crashed the wedding. But that was something they really tried to forget. Even Shinya’s siblings wished them well. Kureto, Shinoa and surprisingly Seishirō too, had been trying to act like a functional and healthy family. No more killing each other or treating the other like trash. It was still an on going project but there had been improvements.
Life was finally enjoyable at last.
It was Guren the one who came up with the idea of adoption. Shinya never saw himself having children but he was ready to do everything for Guren. Both Guren and Shinya fell in love with Yui the first moment they laid their eyes on her. Yui was seven years old, she had dark long hair and fair skin like Shinya. Her smile and laughter was contagious. There was also the fact that Byakkomaru commented about feeling some kind of power coming from her. Guren and Shinya loved the child and they wanted to protect her, it was decided. Yui-chan was their daughter.
The adoption process was fairly fast, and now they found themselves driving back home with their new daughter, ready to introduce her to everyone.
Guren parked the car and they exited the vehicle. “Now remember, If it’s too much you tell us and we tell them to come other day, we want you to be happy” Shinya assured his daughter walking to the entrance of the house.
“Okay, but I really want to meet them, you talk about them all the time! Especially Yuu-kun as he is like my big brother. We even have similar names!” Yui said excitedly.
“The brat is more like a annoying cousin really…” Guren protested.
“Not a brat anymore, and you basically raised him, so yeah, they both are like step siblings” Shinya patted Guren’s arm playfully. Guren huffed.
“Okay here we go…” Guren opened the door and the three stepped inside. “Tadaima!”
“Okaeri!” A group of voices responded. Yui and her parents entered the living room and they were greeted by their friends. At first no one moved and in silent they looked at each other.
“Kawaii!” Mito said. “Yes she is” Sayuri added with a gentle smile.
Shinya smiled. “Yui-chan” He whispered to his daughter.
“Nice to meet you!” Yui said with a big smile. Some awws could be heard.
“This is Yui-chan, our daughter, be good to her” Shinya introduced his daughter. Guren was looking at the wall trying to hide his face. Oh he is embarrassed isn’t he? Shinya mentally smirked. “Ne, Guren! Say something!” Shinya whispered hitting softly his husband with his elbow. “Shut up!” Guren whispered back. Shinya chuckled.
Mito, Sayuri and Shigure approached the three member family and introduced themselves to Yui, telling her their names and how they met her parents.
“You’re all very pretty Onee-san!” Yui laughed happily, while the three female members of the Guren squad smiled tenderly, completely charmed by the little girl.
“But the prettiest of all is you, Yui-hime chan” Goshi interrupted delicately taking Yui’s hand and giving her a sweet kiss on it while bowing his head. Yui giggled. “I’m Goshi-ojisan, at your service” Goshi added.
“Goshi” Mito smacked his friend on the head.
“Ouch Mito-chan! We want to be introduced to Yui-chan too!” Goshi protested. “Let’s meet the rest of the people, yes?” Goshi asked and Yui nodded.
“Hello Yui-chan! I’m Yūichirō! It’s nice to meet you!” Yuu said waving his hands at the little girl.
Yui’s face lighten up with a bright smile that made Mitsuba, Yoichi, Kimizuki and Shinoa blush. “Yuu-nii chan!” The girl said grabbing Yui’s hands. “I wanted to meet you! Dad and Papa talk a lot about you! Especially Dad!” Yui claimed.
“D-don’t lie Yui! We have only mentioned him a couple of times, just like the rest” Guren muttered while Shinya giggled looking at his husband with a devilish expression. “Shut up!” Guren whispered poking at Shinya.
Yuu looked at Guren and smiled softly. He will always be grateful at Guren for taking care of him when he was a child.
“You’re my Onii-chan, right?” Yui asked meeting eyes with Yuu.
Yuu grinned widely. “Of course! I’m your Nii-chan. We are family and I will always protect you” Yuu proclaimed hugging his new sister who returned the hug.
“Aww” Shinya whispered into Guren’s ear, who was smiling at the scene. “You’re insufferable” Guren muttered, Shinya chuckled and kissed his husband’s cheek. “Everything is going great” Guren added in a soft voice. Shinya hummed in agreement with a smile on his face.
“Well you have officially been declared family. Not that I’m surprised. Hi there Yui-san, I’m Mika, I’m with Yuu-chan” Mikaela introduced himself.
“Nice you meet you!” Yui responded shaking the blonde’s hand.
“Let me introduce you to rest of my family! This is Mitsuba, Yoichi, and Kimizuki…” Yuu explained to the little girl. “Oh and this is Shinoa”
“It’s so nice to meet you, Yui-chan. I’m your Papa’s sister” Shinoa smiled sweetly.
“I like your hair, Shinoa-neechan” Yui said.
“I like yours too!” Shinoa said back.
“Ah speaking of siblings… Kureto-niisan” Shinya addressed his older brother who had not moved yet from the corner of the room.
Yui grabbed his Papa’s hand and walked towards Kureto. “This is Kureto-ojisan, he is my older brother” Shinya explained to the girl.
Yui smiled and an inclined his head a little bit to greet his uncle. “It’s very nice to make your acquaintance”
Kureto smiled. “How very polite, it seems she has not been poisoned by his father’s manners yet” Kureto said looking at Guren who rolled his eyes with an annoyed expression, while some people snorted at the comment. “It’s my honour to meet you Yui, a smart and polite girl like you it’s a great addition to the Hiiragi family” Kureto claimed.
“But she is a Ichinose” Guren said.
“Hiiragi” Kureto said looking at his brother.
“Ichinose” Shinya replied.
“Hiiragi” Kureto insisted.
“Nii-san…” Shinya half smiled.
“Ichinose Yui. Ichinose Guren. Ichinose Shinya. You already know this Kureto” Guren declared.
Kureto groaned softly. “Nevertheless you are part Hiiragi so, you’ll enjoy some perks from that” Kureto alleged.
“Nii-san, there’s no need…” Shinya began to say when they heard the door open abruptly.
With a house full of soldiers everyone became alert. Shinya positioned himself in front of his daughter. Kureto pulled the girl close to him, Guren went to check the door and the rest evaluated the situation in their position.
“Hello, hello! We have come to the party bearing gifts!” Ferid Bathory announced entering the living room. “Oh, why is everyone so serious!?” Ferid looked at the room full of soldiers ready to attack. The humans were staring at the vampire with shocked faces.
“What the hell!” “Guren!” Guren groaned. “What the heck are you doing here?” Guren asked the vampire. At that moment Crowley entered the house too, full of boxes and bags.
“Sorry for the intrusion” Crowley greeted them.
“We came to meet the new member of the family. Of course!” Ferid proclaimed. “I bought a nursery and lots of children clothes! Crowley leave the things on the floor. You’re welcome” Ferid added.
“The girl is seven” Guren told him.
“Oh, well, for the next one then” Ferid said cheerfully. “So where is she… oh! What a lovely little girl!” Ferid commented looking at Yui who was grabbing his Uncle’s Kureto hand. “Hi there little girl, I’m a friend of your daddies!” Ferid alleged.
“Don’t lie to her!” Yuu protested.
“Ah Yuu-chan, you must be very happy, you got a new adorable little sister” The vampire grinned.
“How did you even know about the adoption, let alone the party!” Guren addressed the vampire.
“You were listening, weren’t you?” Mika interrupted.
“Mika?” Yuu questioned.
“I’m so sorry… I-I went last week to see Krul… and I mentioned her that Guren and Shinya were getting a little girl and that Yuu-chan was very excited… she sends her congratulations by the way. He must have been listening to the conversation” Mika apologised.
Shinya smiled softly at the blonde and Guren groaned at the seven progenitor.
“It doesn’t matter how I found out, the important thing is that I’m here to wish well to this new little family!” Ferid claimed.
Yui advanced quietly to the vampire, observing him. She stood next to Shinya.
“I totally volunteer to babysit if you ever need to let the little one with someone” Ferid declared.
“Over my dead body!” Shinya said hugging his daughter close to him.
“Ma, ma… let’s not cause another apocalypse, shall we? We all know how your husband reacts to that particular scenario” Ferid told Shinya. The room became quiet.
“Okay, out!” Guren pointed to the door.
“But Crowley and I had not been properly introduced!” Ferid protested.
“Don’t go near Yui-chan, you perv!” Mito prepared to attack, with Sayuri, Shigure and Goshi behind her.
“Ma, ma it appears she already has a very dedicated team of babysitters and aunts” Ferid laughed.
While Ferid argued with Guren’s and Shinoa’s squad, Yui looked at Crowley and walked towards him.
“Yui-chan, wait!” Shinya moved to try and grab his daughter.
“You’re very tall!” Yui said meeting the vampire. Crowley smiled to her. “Up!” Yui said lifting her hands at Crowley who looked at her with a slight shocked expression.
“Aww not fair! Why is Crowley her favourite vampire! That should be me!” Ferid complained.
Crowley looked around the room not knowing what to do, but Yui still had her arms up waiting to be lifted.
“Crowley-san, she is delicate, be careful…” Yoichi said.
Crowley nodded lifting Yui to his shoulders. The girl giggled. “Wow! I can touch the ceiling!” Laughter filled the room, which helped calm the nerves. Crowley smiled softly. Kids were too innocent sometimes.
“Yui-chan, I have a very nice old fashionable car, I can take you for a ride if you want!” Ferid said.
“Cut the bullshit or I’ll cut your head off” Guren threaten the vampire.
“Guren-sama! Language!” Sayuri exclaimed.
“But that would traumatise the poor girl Guren… hahaha” Ferid laughed, enjoying the situation, as it was clear the vampire had come to create a little bit of chaos.
Shinoa’s squad joined Crowley and Yui who was having the time of her life with the piggy ride from the giant vampire. Whilst, Ferid kept laughing and fighting with Guren’s squad. Shinya looked at the scene and sighed. “Maybe we will just create a chaotic life for this poor girl” Shinya commented.
“Her life can’t be worse that what we had Shinya, as she has two loving parents who would do anything for her” Kureto stated. Shinya smiled softly at his brother while the other patted his shoulder.
The room was pure chaos. But his daughter looked really happy to have met all his friends and everyone had loved Yui back. So the day could be considered a success.
“Papa! When are you going to introduce me to the tiger!” Yui exclaimed. The room fell silence once again.
“T-tiger?” Shinya asked confused.
“Yes! The big white tiger who is always next to you! Is he our pet?” Yui answered happily.
Shinya’s heart skipped a beat. “Byakkomaru!?”
“Yui” Guren grabbed the girl from Crowley’s shoulders. “Are you seeing the tiger now?” Guren asked his daughter in a serious tone.
“Yeah, he is next to Papa” Yui nodded.
Shinya concentrated and Byakkomaru appeared next to him. But no one else could see it. “Byakkomaru? Why can she see you!” Shinya asked his demon with panic in his voice.
“I told you that she had a mysterious power, didn’t I?” The demon who was in his tiger form responded.
“But you didn’t mention that she could see demons!!!” Shinya screamed in his mind to his demon.
“Oh. Well, she can” Byakkomaru declared.
“So it’s Byakkomaru? Nice to meet you!” Yui said standing in front of the demon, although to anyone else in the room except for Shinya she was greeting an empty space.
Shinya’s eyes met Guren’s who was also looking at the scene with a shocked face.
“Oh my, the girl can see demons what an impressive power. I’m sure interesting things will happen to you in the future” Ferid was looking at Yui with an intrigued expression.
“Papa, Dad I’m glad I got to meet everyone. Thanks for adopting me!” Yui proclaimed with a big smile.
Guren and Shinya could only smiled back at her before embracing her in a hug.
“Aww group hug!” Ferid exclaimed opening his arms to join the family.
“Don’t you dare” Yuu whispered placing his sword near the vampire’s neck who chuckled happily.
Guren kissed softly Shinya on the lips. They will figure it out. Together. They will always protect their family.
