Chapter 1: Turn of Events

Chapter Text

You huffed out in frustration as your phone rang a third time; seriously this was your day off work so whoever was calling better had a good reason to be disturbing your well needed TLC. You were just in the process of making yourself something for dinner when your phone' sudden loudness had distrubed you causing you to almost scald yourself with boiling pasta water. You stood awkwardly in the middle of your small apartment in nothing but your Freddy Fazbear pyjamas, glaring at the phone before reluctantly deciding to answer; you almost immediately regretted that decision as the name ‘Vanessa’ illuminated on your screen along with a picture of her face. Bringing your phone to your ear you were immediately about to hang up as the familiar voice spoke through the speaker.
“Hey (y/n)! I know it’s your day off but we’re gonna need you in tonight. I know it’s short notice but we don’t have anyone else to cover the shift.”
You let out a defeated sigh through your nose, of course you get a rare day off from working in the Pizza Plex and of course Fazbear entertainment just couldn't let that slide. The company was well known for working their staff to the bone and hardly paying them at the end of the week. Your hold on the phone tightened a little as you spoke “Uh, I dunno if I can make it in V. I had stuff planned today. Can you try and get someone else to cover it for me? I’ll make it up to you?” They say that the third stage of grief is bargaining and that’s what you were currently doing as you grieved the loss of your day off already knowing you weren’t getting out of this.
“No can do (y/n), I’ve tried everyone else and they all can’t do it. You’re my last option.”
Another sigh left you, guess you really didn't have much of a choice then. “Fine, I’ll see you at the usual time, Vanessa.” You hung up just as she was thanking you for agreeing to work again tonight and stood there for a while glaring at your phone and contemplating your decision on agreeing to come in. ‘Could always phone in an hour before?’ Although you weren’t usually the type to do that it honestly sounded very tempting. Your train of thought was momentarily halted at the sound of a pot boiling over in the kitchen; guess that was karma for thinking about chickening out of going to your shift.

The next hours flew by quickly as you ate dinner and started to get ready for your shift. Pulling up to the massive building that was the Pizza Plex, you could have cried. Begrudgingly, you pulled your seatbelt off and exited your car; making sure to grab your work duffle bag that contained your uniform. Vanessa was already by the entrance, hands in her pockets, hood up and looking around occasionally for what you assumed was you. Locking your car and putting the keys in your pocket, there was no getting out of your shift now. You made your way over to the blonde and the entrance, your presence automatically grabbing her attention as she lowered the hood of her jacket.
“Hey (y/n)! Glad to see you actually decided to show up!”
“Trust me I was debating the idea.” You mumbled mostly to yourself and chose to ignore the deadpan look she tossed your way. You have known Vanessa since you started working here about a year ago. You weren't particularly close to each other but that didn't stop the both of you from having the occasional bit of banter between yourselves. If you were being honest you found the blonde security guard to be a bit eccentric whenever she spoke about the job role; she almost seemed obsessive with it, constantly going on and on about it. She took her job seriously, that much was obvious but there had been a handful of occasions you had noticed she'd take her seriousness a little too far.

As the both of you entered, you were almost deafened by the familiar sound of kids squealing in a mixture of excitement, probably some temper tantrums and most likely frustration at not getting whatever toy they wanted. It was just coming up for 8pm which meant you’d have plenty of time to get changed into your uniform and probably have half an hour to spare to chill in the arcade or something before you were actually expected to start work. You mentally groan at the loudness, to think you gave the comfort and more importantly silence of your quaint apartment up to come here for the next 10 hours of your evening.

You and Vanessa parted ways shortly after you both entered into the main lobby. The blonde immediately going to get changed out of her normal clothes and into her uniform and you go to the main atrium. Whenever you started your evening shift you always came in that little bit early, just in time to catch the Glamrock’s last performance of the night. You wouldn’t admit it out loud but you loved watching the animatronics up on stage, something about it made your inner child happy and you would often find yourself humming a few of their songs while on your shift. There had been mixed reviews on the two new animatronics that had joined the band a few months back, even some parents were quite upset when it was announced that Bonnie and Foxy would be retiring from the stage. However, both of the beloved animatronics can still be found in their respective attractions; Bonnie being in Bonnie Bowl and Foxy in Funtime Cove.
As you made your way to the lift that took you to the second level of the atrium the loud voice of the announcer came to life and had started to make the same announcement it always did at this time of night.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, please make your way to the stage for Freddy and the gang’s last performance of the evening!”

You waited patiently for the lift doors to open so you could take your usual spot by the balcony along with Bonnie and Foxy; just because they were retired from performing didn't mean they still couldn't watch their friends perform right? The dinging of the lift doors opening caught your attention and you hastily made your way out of the metal deathtrap, adjusting the duffle bag that still rested on your shoulder. Once you had fully exited the lift you quickly made a beeline for your designated spot, loud robotic chatter caught your attention bringing a smile to your face. Although the shifts were long and the pay was pretty shitty, this place did have its upsides.

Two figures came into view and you had to stop yourself from practically skipping over to them. Foxy was first to spot you, a shocked expression creeping up his face as he lifted his eye patch with a hooked hand, as if double checking it was really you. This caused the purple bunny he was speaking to to huff in annoyance.
“What’s up with you now Foxy?” He turned his head around to look at you over his shoulder, his own mouth falling open slightly, but it was quickly replaced with a bright smile, turning fully now to greet you. “(y/n)?! What are you doing here? I thought you got the night off?” He tilted his head with the questions, large ears flopping slightly causing you to chuckle. “Hey BonBon” you peaked around him and up to the reddish fox, nodding in his direction. “Cap’n” The fox barked out laughter at that.
“Good tae see you tonight (y/n) it’s quite funny actually, me and Bonnie were just talkin’ aboot ye. Weren’t we?”
The rabbit had gone awfully quiet causing you to cross your arms and raise a brow at both animatronics ‘Oh were they now? ’ You wondered. “Oh yeah? All good things I hope BonBon” The rabbit just laughed it off, snapping out of his temporary embarrassment.
“If it's about you, then it's always good things (y/n).”
Foxy was buckled over with laughter now and you couldn’t help the bubbles of laughter escaping yourself. The bunny in question just flattened his ears, turning his attention to the stage “Hardy Har, laugh it up guys and to think I was just telling Foxy about how I was gonna miss you tonight (y/n).” You should have felt guilty but Foxy’s wheezing laugh was making it difficult for you. Raising a hand and placing it on the rabbit’s forearm, you let your laughter die out before deciding to speak. “S-sorry Bonnie.” You had to stop to catch your breath. “Well I’m here now huh? So you don’t have to miss me. Maybe we could get around of bowling later to make up?” The happy taps of Bonnie’s foot on the carpeted floor told you that the idea you had was a good one, you smiled up at the animatronic before turning your attention towards the stage just as music started to be blasted through the surrounding speakers and the show began.
