Summary
Set when Lisa tells Carla that she loves her and the story goes from there. I have been writing this ever since that episode but I wanted to get a few chapters ahead before I posted it. Apologies if some of my ideas are similar to other people's - I haven't copied, I've just not posted until now. It doesn't completely follow the transplant story, as there is no Rob involved but it is my little version. Hope you enjoy.

Carla Connor is stubborn and self-sacrificial to a fault. She refuses to let any of her loved ones get tested. After Aidan, it’s a gift she could never accept, a debt she could never repay. So, she insists on waiting for a match from the donor register, thank you very much.
Back home from the hospital, she’s adjusting to life with daily dialysis, doing her best to be there for Betsy, who’s grieving Mason, and to be a partner to Lisa despite the toll her condition is taking on her. But no matter how hard she tries, kidney failure is wearing her down, physically and mentally.
Ryan can’t stand to watch his aunt suffer any longer. Rob might be a match, but his offer comes with strings attached and a cost Carla can’t afford, in more ways than one. So, Ryan calls the one person he knows who has any chance of knocking some sense into her: his mother, Michelle.
