Work Text:
2:30 p.m.
That was the time Moblit normally arrived for his child development class on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Though on his first day of school, he arrived late and had to sit next to the infamous Levi Ackerman.
And he had to stay there the rest of the semester because all the other seats were filled.
Now he was half way through the semester, and they had shared a few words. Not much, but simple conversation.
The class had tans walls, a white board with a pull down screen in front of it and a projector. There were three rows of elevated seats, with two seats at each connected table. He and Levi sat on the far right on the end table of the second. As he walked in his class, he noticed Miche was earlier than normal, smiling at him he waved.
He was one of Moblit’s only friends.
It wasn’t that Moblit was antisocial, he just hated approaching people. Back in highschool, his friends would just introduce him to people, and that’s how he gained friends; however, here at Scouts University (SU), he had only managed to befriend Miche and Nanaba.
Walking towards his seat, he noticed someone was in it.
Not just anyone, the Hange Zoe.
Moblit’s eyes widened, he only ever saw Hange when passing them in the hallways. A breathtaking sight, they were always shining, and it kind of hurt Moblit’s eyes. But they were like this stranger you created as a celebrity in your mind, everytime Moblit saw them he gasped and thought, “Oh my god! That’s Hange Zoe!”
They were also, kind of, Moblit’s hallway crush.
Though, he had never expected to actually be standing by the Hange Zoe, nevertheless having them in his seat. He arrived to the right side of Hange, he and Levi being on the end table, unsure of what to say. He began playing with his fingers nervously.
Hange had turned towards him, their eye creasing in a smile.
The Hange Zoe was looking at him!
Mark it down in the history books!
“Oh,” They said. “Am I in the way?”
Their eyes fluttered, he never noticed they had long eyelashes. They had a mole under their eye, and a honey brown eye.
Had they just talked to him? What was he supposed to say? He was so enchanted by the mysterious beauty of Hange Zoe that he didn’t notice that he hadn’t said anything.
“Oi! Moblit!” Levi spoke.
Dragged out of the ever-so-charming world of Hange Zoe, he returned back to reality.
An embarrassing one at that.
Both of them were staring at him confused, and now he had turned pink, flushed from head to toe.
He ran his fingers through his hair, “I’m Moblit Berner he/him I know your pronouns- wait you uhm didn’t ask actually uhm I was just going to talk to my friend Miche! Feel free to stay there as long as you want.”
He awkwardly chuckled a bit before walking away. Jesus christ, Moblit was an embarrassment, the utter embodiment of stupid, peak cringe. He hurriedly walked towards Miche and hoped no one had witnessed that awful display of conversations. He knew this was going to be a core memory, and he was going to wake up in a sweat and remember this moment as one of his worst in the middle of the night.
He approached Miche, thank god Nanaba wasn’t here today.
He sat down and put his hands on his face, pulling his skin down.
“Jesus Moblit, that was really hard to watch.” Miche laughed.
He was horrified as he turned towards Miche, “You saw that?!”
Miche rubbed his neck, “I think the whole class did.”
He decided he would have a traditional funeral, instead they would play IHATEMETOO because now the entire class saw one of his worst moments live.
He put his head in his hands, “How will I ever go on?”
Miche rolled his eyes, “Stop being so overdramatic it wasn’t that bad.”
Moblit looked up at him, “Really? It wasn’t?”
“No.” Miche laughed, “You looked like one of them bitch who puts their fingers together and goes “I’m shy.”
Moblit jaw dropped, this bitch! He smacked the side of Miche’s arm as the shithead continued howling with laughter.
“OW! I’m kidding Moblit! No need to hurt me!” He pretended to cry.
“Get the fuck over it, loser.” Moblit stuck his tongue out.
Moblit often didn’t respond with annoyance, he was seen as an intelligent, reserved man; though, he would let it slip with his close friends.
“Sorry man,” His laughter died down, “I find your pain amusing.”
He smacked him again, “Ow! Okay! Okay! Fine, let’s talk about something else, okay?”
“M’kay.”
“So my friend is throwing a party-”
“No.”
This time Miche smacked his arm, “Hear me out, okay?”
Moblit rolled his eyes, “Fine. Whatever.”
“So my friend, Erwin Smith, the business major, is loaded cause his this young entrepreneur shit or whatever-”
Moblit heard the teacher's footsteps, “Hurry. Get to the point.”
He continued, “He rented this big ass mansion, and is throwing a party there. For his boyfriend maybe? Who knows. But supposedly there is going to be some good ass food and drinks there. You should come.”
Moblit thought about it, a big ass mansion allowed him to take food and find a room to stay in alone. He could avoid the partygoers while still getting free food.
He contemplated for a bit.
“Nanaba and Petra are going, and I know you’ve wanted to befriend Petra for a while..” Miche added.
“Hmmmm.”
Miche pleaded, “C’mon man. Pleassseeee.”
He rolled his eyes, “Fine, but you're taking me there and back.”
He threw his arms up in victory, “Of course! Pick you up at 7.”
—----
Moblit hadn’t gone to many parties in his life, much less a party at a huge mansion. He wasn’t really sure if it was formal, but he made the basic assumption that if it was that Miche would’ve told him if it was. He had on a plain dark green flannel shirt, with black pants, and black shoes. He wanted to look decently presentable, but comfortable enough to chill in a random room.
As they arrived towards the mansion, Moblit realized how big it was. It seemed to have three floors, pure white with a marble look, and an astonishing garden. Astounding architecture, as they got out of the car, Moblit could hear the music. He hoped he could steal a bunch of food and huddle up in a room with his book.
“Oh my god! This place is huge!” Petra sang.
Nanaba shook her head in agreement.
Miche responded, “Thank god Erwin is so god damn rich!”
Petra smiled, “Yeah, a benefactor of capitalism.”
Moblit chuckled in response, “Hopefully he’ll share the wealth.”
Petra was an outgoing, friendly woman, who was in a pink-cropped tank top, with a checkered dark pink skirt, white fish-nets, and light pink boots. She was a fashion major with a passion for debate, destroying idiots one by fun while looking good doing it. That was originally why Moblit wanted to talk to her, and they had quite a lovely conversation in the car.
“Moblit!” Petra spoke, “Wanna walk in arm linked?”
Moblit grinned, “I thought you’d never ask.”
Linking arms, they began walking.
Moblit noticed that Miche was with a red turtleneck, a browner tan blazer and pants combo. Though he had no romantic attraction to Miche, he looked sexy. With his tall body and that outfit, he was going to be a head turner.
Nanaba was wearing glasses, a breathy white shirt, loose gray, almost baggy pants, long white socks, and black shoes. She was the designated driver.
He felt underdressed, kinda plain and boring. At least his friends looked cool though.
As they went to knock on the door, Gelgar threw it open, and Moblit could hear the loud music rumbling the house.
“Nanaba~” He pulled her wrist, “Get in here!”
She rolled her eyes, “How are you already drunk?”
He cheered, “Beer is great!”
She turned around, “Do you guys wanna join us?”
Miche shook his head and threw his arm around Moblit, “We’re going to take shots. Feel free to join us later guys!”
She waved goodbye as Gelgar pulled her along to go dancing, at least that’s what Moblit assumed. He turned towards Miche, who had a cheeky grin.
“Shots? Who said anything about shots?” Moblit asked.
Miche tilt his head, “Well we are at a party, I thought we’d take shots, don’t feel pressured or anything.”
“How about we walk over there and I’ll think along the way, k?” He turned to both of them.
Both of them nodded as they walked through the sea of people in the party. It felt hot and sweaty which grossed Moblit out. He hadn’t drank in a long time, and he was at a party. Maybe he was withholding himself from having fun by always being concerned with how he would act drunk. He wanted to have fun, he really did, but he always worried about what would happen.
“Over there! There’s Erwin with the shots!” Miche shouted and pointed through the crowd.
More sweaty people to walk through, great!
“I’m excited for these shots!” Petra shouted leaning towards Moblit, “My girlfriend, Nifa, raves about Erwin shots, apparently they are really good.”
And if who not to get drinks from than the guy with the best shots?
“Miche! I’ll drink with you guys!” Moblit proudly shouted.
Miche gaped, “Really?” He smacked him on the back, “Let’s go! This is going to be great.”
Petra cheered, “This is going to be great! We are all going to drink together.”
They arrived at the bar?
They had a bar in this mansion?
It was a simple oak wood, reserved by Erwin for him and friends. Erwin was behind the counter, leaning on it with both hands, with an array of bottles and shot cups near him. He looked like a businessman, even at a college party setting. With his hair gelled back, a white button up, and black pants. Someone was sitting on the right most part on a bar stool.
“Miche!” He proudly called.
He even talked like one.
“Erwin” They shook hands.
Miche gestured towards him, “This is Moblit, I’m guessing you already know Petra?”
Erwin nodded, “She’s Levi’s friend.”
Levi’s voice spoke, “Oi Petra.”
She released her arm and walked towards Levi who was the guy in the rightmost spot, she was bubbly as ever.
“Are we waiting for anyone else?” Miche asked.
“No, I don’t believe Hange will be joining us regardless.” Erwin said matter-a-factly.
Moblit’s eyes widened, “Hange is here?”
“Yesh, they are probably going to be dancing and hanging around the living room.” He said.
Moblit whispered, “Oh.”
“I’m not going to drink much Erwin, maybe two shots.” Petra stated.
Erwin acknowledged her comment.
Miche shouted, “Let’s get started!”
Erwin nodded, he pulled his sleeves up pouring out three shot glasses mixing different drinks in small amounts.
He looked up at Moblit, “Have you taken shots before?”
He nodded, “Yeah, nothing complex though.”
Erwin pushed their shot glasses to the three of them, “I’ll put the lemon on this time, just watch so you know what to do after this.”
Erwin gave a cut up lemon to Miche, then swirled the lemon around Moblit’s glass.
“You get it?” Erwin asked.
“Yeah it’s pretty simple.”
Miche cheered, “Let’s get started than!”
—--
After many different drinks, each their own flavor, he even had one that tasted like vanilla! Moblit didn’t know shots could taste like vanilla! He had lost count of how many he had, at least he wasn’t a lightweight. He was buzzing and felt like he was floating,
Miche was laughing, “Me and Erwin have been drinking buddies forever! Even before he met Levi! Crazy right?”
He nodded, “Are they dating or something? You talk like they are?!”
He giggled, “No duh! Look at them” He looked between the two, “They always look like they wanna fuck each other!’
Moblit began laughing, hitting his hand on the table, “Really?” He turned towards Levi, “You’re so small though! You are a tiny dude!”
Erwin started snorting at this, “You could say that!”
He was too intoxicated to notice that Levi looked like he was about to kill him.
He would definitely regret this tomorrow.
Petra looked petrafied, “Did you call Levi small? Aren’tcha afraid?”
Moblit laughed more, “I don’t know if he could reach me!”
Erwin and Petra’s jaws dropped, Levi clenched his glass, almost about to break it. Miche began choking on his own laughter.
“You hear that Levi?” Miche shouted, “Aren’t you gonna do something?”
Levi glared at everyone, “He obviously doesn’t know what's happening. He’ll regret this later, just like Hange did”
This was a side of Moblit not seen, he was a studious learner, he worked towards getting a higher education. He was intellectual, and often only seen as such. This was one of the rare times he actually let loose. His stomach was full of laughter, and he was grinning ear to ear. Though, once he realized he heard Hange’s name, he became hung up with the idea of finding them.
“Does anyone know where Hange is?” He asked.
Levi shouted, “Go look in the damn living room!”
Through his obliviousness, he failed to recognize Levi’s clear annoyance, and that was going to bite him in the ass next class.
He winked, “Thanks Levi! Love ya!”
Moblit got up and headed towards the left side of the house.
“It’s on the right dumbass!” Levi shouted again.
“Thanks babe!” He replied.
The reason Moblit didn’t get intoxicated often is because he often became overly flirtatious, which has caused him some problems in the past. He walked through the swamp of people, through hallways until he ended up where he thought was the living room.
Hange was there, and
Oh lord.
They are quite a sight.
They were sitting on the couch in the middle, with a white button up with a few buttons loose, black pants on. They were stretched out, hanging on the back of the couch, their head was leaning back, hair down and a bit messy, their legs were spread out, one might say “man-spreading.”
Holy fucking shit.
Hange looked so fucking hot right now and Moblit didn’t know how to react.
He straightened his back and walked over to the spot to the right of them.
Hange lifted their head up, “Who?” They looked at him, “Oh, your Moblit, Levi’s classmate.”
He inspected further, Hange didn’t have their glass on, their lips were plump and soft, their face was flushed, only just a bit. He could see their collarbones, he imagined running his fingers along them. Their sleeves were rolled up, he could see a bit of their veins and their arms seemed toned. They smelled like cheap beer. Their thighs squeezed tight in their black pants. When he started looking at their hands, he lost it a bit. Long, thin fingers that looked rough.
“Are you attracted to anyone at this party Hange?” Moblit asked.
“I mean,” They looked around. “You look pretty nice.”
He winked, “I bet you say that to anyone!”
“No,” Hange remarked. “I remember thinking you have a nice ass.”
Moblit smirked.
He asked, “Have you done anything fun at this party, Hange?”
Hange looked at him inquisitively, “No? It’s been pretty boring.”
He lazily grinned, “Well…I’m here now!”
Hange laughed, looking him up and down, “Yeah, you are?”
Moblit began unbuttoning the first three buttons of his shirt, seductively looking at Hange.
Moblit grew a bit closer, “I meant, I’m fun,” He inched his fingers up Hange’s arm, growing closer so he could look in Hange’s eyes, “And, y’know, you haven’t done anything yet.”
They were so close to each other they could hear each other’s breathing, Moblit backed off a little, his worrying side coming forward.
“Oh my god did I totally just invaded your personal space- I’m-”
Though, he was cut off by Hange passionately kissing him.
—---
Moblit opened his eyes, looking up at a white ceiling.
He closed his eyes again, they felt heavy and his throat was dry, and he just wanted to sleep more. He snuggled to his right and felt his hands hit someone’s back.
He remembered he didn’t have a white ceiling.
And he didn’t share a bed with anyone.
He quickly forced his eyes open, pushing himself back, almost falling on the floor. He saw he was sleeping in a bed with fluffy white sheets, and a person with short brown hair was peacefully sleeping, their tan back facing him.
Wait.
That wasn’t anyone with short brown hair, that was
Hange fucking Zoe.
Oh.
My.
God!
He moved to get up and realized that his ass kind of hurt. He put his hand on his chest in shock, and realized wasn’t wearing a shirt, only pants.
Wait, he wasn’t wearing a shirt and his ass hurt?
Did he get pegged by the Hange Zoe?
And he didn’t remember it?
He felt embarrassed. Though he had seen Hange in the hallway, he didn’t know them. He wasn’t used to someone he didn’t know seeing all of him in such a way. He wasn’t the most comfortable in his body, he had only let his other partners see him in such a way when he was really close with them. He hurriedly found his shirt off the floor, phone, socks, and shoes and found a bathroom. Before putting his shirt on, he noticed hickeys riddled his neck and chest, light purple.
He threw his shirt on, shoved his socks and shoes on, and looked at his phone.
He noticed a text from a number he didn’t know.
Unknown Number
hey! it’s petra :)
come down to the living room when you're ready! nanaba had to leave with gelgar last night, so I’m taking you and miche home !!
Relieved, he responded.
Thanks Petra! Be down in a moment!!
At least he didn’t have to find a ride home. He closed the bathroom door quietly, and walked towards where he thought the stairs were. As he passed the room Hange was in, he noticed they had flipped sides, their hand resting where he once was. They looked peaceful in their sleep.
As he reached the stairs he heard a voice call out to him.
“Moblit.”
After calming down his mini heart attack, he turned around to find Levi leaning against the wall in a white shirt and black sweatpants.
“You shouldn’t leave Hange without saying anything.” He continued, “They won’t like that.”
Moblit was embarrassed and couldn’t face Hange.
He turned back around, “I’m sure they’ll be fine. I’m not close with them.”
“Whatever.” He sighed, “I tried.”
—
The weekend had passed, it was now Monday at 2:30.
The marks on his neck were still there, so he was forced to wear a turtleneck and hoodie combination. The turtleneck was green, the hoodie was gray and zipped up most of the way, he always wore a black hat and a black mask, and the pants were black.
He didn’t want to see today, he just wanted to have a simple day in class.
As he walked in the room, he noticed Nanaba and Miche hadn’t arrived yet, which wasn’t surprising.
Though, as he made his way to his seat, he noticed the familiar short brown hair person talking to Levi. They had only visited him once before this, so why on all days did they have to come back in today?
Sighing quietly he turned around to sit in Nanaba’s seat until the two got here, and hopefully, Hange would be gone by them. He took out his notebook and began reviewing notes for his next class since he had a test. He was tired after a weekend of working.
He was surprised to hear quiet footsteps from behind approaching him, who could that be?
He didn’t bother looking up, too absorbed in his notes.
That was until they spoke.
“Moblit.” Hange spoke softly, pulling the chair close to him, “What are you looking out?”
He bounced back in his seat a bit shocked, unsure of what to do. He noticed Hange was leaning towards him, resting their chin on their right hand, their other arm rested softly on the desk.
He looked back down, “I’m studying for a test.”
Staring at the paper, he didn’t read it.
He just was too awkward to look at Hange.
They noticed this leaning down towards the paper, forcing Moblit to notice them.
“Why are you avoiding my eyes?” They asked calmly.
Gazing in their eyes, there was no emotion.
He leaning back looking to the right, “I’m not I uh-”
He stopped talking after he felt Hange pulling on the neck part of his turtleneck, examining it.
“Why are you covering them up, Moblit? Are you embarrassed?” They leaned on the table looking at his neck then up at him.
Smoothly, his name rolled off so smoothly off their tongue.
He enjoyed hearing them say his name, he wondered if they said it at the party. In the bedroom with a white ceil-
No!
He put his hand over his embarrassed face and then stood up.
People were staring.
“I’m sorry I can’t do this.”
He quickly walked out of the room, passing the curious Nanaba and Miche. Rushing to the bathroom, he sat in the nearest stall. His heart was pounding fast, was it from the walk here or Hange? Putting his hand over his heart he thought back to how embarrassing he must have looked in front of them. It feels like every interaction he has with them is embarrassing.
The problem with that interaction is not that he didn’t enjoy it,
it's that he enjoyed it too much.
They have met three times, but his heart was beating too fast.
He should’ve never went to that party.
