Chapter 1: Chloe Decker´s master plan

Chapter Text

When a person dies, they usually hope (pray) to go to heaven. But Chloe was an unusual person.

Chloe is in her forties, has a job, a daughter, a life. Well, she had. She was a good person… and yet, she didn´t want to go to heaven. She seemed like a normal woman, but she wasn’t.

Years back, the love of her life had disappeared. Well… is it disappearance if you know where he is? Because she does know: her soulmate is in hell. It couldn’t be any other way, when you´re dating the devil. Or at least it shouldn’t be (ignoring those few years when he took a vacation in the earthly plane and ended up becoming a detective).

And so, Chloe Decker, working mother, honest cop, and, above all, a good person, wanted for a long time to go to hell when she died. But life isn’t fair, and neither is death. Turns out, every single one of those qualities made Chloe Decker the perfect candidate for a place in the great celestial plane (well, that and the fact that her birth was technically a miracle, but that´s another story).

But the thing is that Chloe Decker was, and still is, a very determined soul (you have to be, to love the devil, some would say) (you have to be, to convince Lucifer to let himself be loved, the people who knew them both would say). This obviously meant that things weren’t staying this way. Not at all.

It started with the lower ranked angels. Every single, recently started in the corporate ladder, small angel hated to cross paths with Chloe Decker. Why? Because the second she saw the slightest flash of a feather, she started arguing.

“The devil isn’t evil, he punishes the evil” she said.

“Angels should be spending more time in the human world if they want to understand anything” she said.

“Angels” she said, “should have free will”.

Almost everyone was tired of her. And a tired angel is angel not performing their duties well, and so, a dangerous angel. But even worse were those that weren’t tired. Those were the ones who listened, and were starting to consider that maybe, the radical Chloe Decker may have a point.

Of course, when this situation reached the ears of superior angels, they wanted to stop her. This was becoming a new rebellion in heaven! And under their own noses! No way would they let that happen. And yet… thins did not turn out the way they expected.

The most obvious way to make her stop trying to radicalize the heavenly city would be to threaten to throw her to hell… which was exactly what Chloe Decker wanted, and so, by principle, they couldn’t give to her. And that just gave Chloe an incentive to continue, to see what it would take to break them. Now you see the angels dilemma?

They didn´t have any other choice but to let her continue, but keeping her away from the lower and easily influenced angels. That plan would have worked… just if the higher hierarchy angels weren´t equally influenced as their lower counterparts. It took longer, but the situation replicated: half the angels hated her, the other half thought her ideas were salvation.

And that’s how tale of Chloe Decker´s actions reached God.

“This is your fault”

“Okay, Father”, answered Lucifer, “I understand that you, my siblings, and even the humans blame for every single thing that goes wrong with their lives… even when I had nothing to do whit it, so could you at least clarify exactly what are you blaming me for this time?"

“Heaven is in the edge of rebellion. Again. This is your fault and I want it fixed”

“Well, if my brothers and sisters are choosing to rebel, then that is because they finally realized the truth... but I still don´t understand how this is in any way my fault, because other than Amenadiel, I haven´t spoken to any of them in eons”

“No, you haven’t, but it was your girlfriend and so it is your fault”

“My what now?”

“Don’t play dumb with me Samael. You influenced that woman and… you know what? I’m done with the both of you, take her down with you to hell, let’s see if that way we can stop the spread of her rebellious ideas around here. And do not let her talk with any of your siblings ever again!

Don’t let it be said that Chloe Decker wasn’t a strategic woman.

And don’t let it be said that the devil wasn’t eternally proud of his queen.
