He was still the one who handled their regular system updates, despite being on a break from the team. He stared at the Kid Flash channel for hours, every time, the channel that should have been cleared from the system a long time ago. There was a new one, with a new designation, for Bart, but the old B03 channel still remained active, buried in the depths of the JL server where no one would think to look. He knew how everyone would look at him if they knew, the sad eyes he’d get, along a with a reminder that this wasn’t healthy, that he needed to move on.
He knew. Of course he knew, but that didn’t stop him from spilling his heart out to Wally’s old channel, sending messages that collected unread in the chat box. He sent him memes, puns, brand new warped words that he’d come up with. When he was struggling with a case, he sent him long, rambling voice notes putting his thoughts together. When he argued with Bruce, he sent furious, typo-ridden paragraphs, an incoherent jumble of emotion.
And when the ache in him got too much to ignore. I miss you. Why did you leave me? Please come back.
