Under Dim Lights

Summary:

Your parents are loyal employees of the Nanami family. That is how you were able to meet a sweet young boy who loved playing games at the gazebo at the beautiful garden near the employees' quarters. You befriend the boy you now knew as Sai Nanami and would often play together. You two grow close throughout the years and felt at home with each other.

Notes:

Sai just took over my mind. He's very much boyfriend/husband material. I bet he gives the best hugs. There is a lack of Sai x reader here it's criminal, this is my contribution.

Work Text:

At the huge estate of the Nanami family, you were at the employees' quarters with your parents preparing for another day of service to the family. As for you, you were getting dressed for the day to attend the classes tutors that the Nanami family provide for the children of their employees.

It’s the same routine. You attending classes and going home. Unfortunately, unlike your other peers, you have a much different situation. After lessons, your parents would bring you along with them assisting them with their butler or mostly maid duties.

Children of the employees are not required to work for the Nanami but your parents have a very concerning amount of loyalty towards the family that they encourage you to be doing the same thing as them in the future. But admittedly, you couldn’t care less. As long as it’s a future where you could read or watch great stories on your own time you would do it just so you could indulge in your hobbies. Anything to support it.

You were thankful that the prestigious family allowed everyone to the library in their estate with one side that’s off limits. If it’s off limits then it’s none of your business.

This day has been the same, but you had the feeling that things would take a turn, for better or worse you didn’t know. But something different would be appreciated.

In an empty room in the mansion, “Mother, I’m done replacing the sheets of the bed. Would that be all?”

“Yes dear, off to read again?”

“Yes!” you said with a pop to your step ready to sprint towards the library.

“Go on then—“ your mother wasn’t even able to finish what she was saying when you started to power walk the hallways of the mansion.

You’d run over there but you’d undoubtedly will be scolded so you’ll have to settle with your fastest walk you could do. So hopefully the blur that you saw on your peripheral wasn’t someone running around. For their sake.

As you arrived at the library at the afternoon, that was the last anyone would see of you for the day. You gathered everything that interested you back when you were browsing the shelves the other day. You held the pile of books near you, eyes shining with excitement ready to devour their contents.

You had quite a pile you brought with you. You were only at half of the pile when you noticed that the sky outside has gone dark. As much as you would love to read more, you don’t want a lecture about curfew from your parents another time.

So regrettably, you returned all the books you’ve gathered—even the ones you haven’t read—back to their place lest the library ban you from coming here.

Considering how late it is, you took a turn and took a shortcut that you discovered back when you found yourself in the same situation. The estate garden. The garden seem to be well maintained but you rarely see anyone here even during the day. So it’s a pretty dark place with a few lamps lighting up the place, but they’re so far apart from each other that the light is very dim compared to the darkness.

In this garden, you would pass a beautiful gazebo that’s surrounded by bushes of beautiful flowers with the dome and pillars of it wrapped in climbing plants that sprouts beautiful colorful flowers even in the dim light.

That’s strange, you don’t recall any light near the gazebo. It’s then you realized that the lights that you’re seeing are accompanied by music and some sound effects. If there’s a person there they would be the first you’ve seen here aside from you.

You slowly peeked at the entrance of the gazebo to take a look at the person in there. And you saw someone that resembled the person that you assumed have been running in the halls. With the light from his handheld and him not in motion, you got a good look at him. He had dark curly hair that looked it would feel like it’s the fluffiest thing you’ve seen. Beautiful chocolate brown eyes glowed in fascination as he focused in his game.

He seemed to be extremely focused on what he’s playing since he didn’t notice you walking up to him, sitting beside him, and peering over to watch him play. “What are you playing?” you asked

The boy was so immersed in the game that when he realized someone was with him he was startled and almost dropped the console. He sighed in relief when he was able to keep it in his hand. He turned to look at you and saw your hand held out when you tried to catch it for him. “Uhm…hello.”

“What were you playing, looks interesting.” You said since you got a glimpse at how the game is with interesting characters talking about interesting subjects.

   “Uh it’s an rpg.”

   “Rpg?”

Sai settled next to you and explained “Role playing game. You take the role of the protagonist and you interact with the world.”

“Woah! Can I watch you play?” you leaned closer to him

“Sure” he answered reluctantly. He was close to finishing it anyway so he continues as he would when he’s on his own. When he realized that you were reading along, he held out the console to you “You want to try?” he offered

You happily accepted and the only thing you would do is talk to the npc’s learning about them. “If you talk to the character back there, you’ll get progress in the story more to read.” Sai is not one to backseat but when he noticed you going around in circles, he directed you to the right direction. Half a minute has passed and he realized that you were in fact very bad at playing. The story pulled you in but you can’t beat the mini games and puzzles to progress.

"I can play the games while you tell me who you want to talk to if you want." He offered

“Really?” he was surprised to see your glossy eyes with a pout. Looks like losing the game multiple times has you frustrated since you couldn’t progress and read more.

The next few hours were just you two playing in the dim gazebo with Sai breezing through and enjoying the games and you directing him to talk to many different characters. He is always fascinated by your reactions to the story gasping in surprise at plot twists and almost crying at sad scenes. This isn’t his first playthrough so he already knew what was gonna happen and was just going for 100 percent in the game. But having you with him has made the experience less tedious. You even helped him in some quests he couldn’t finish because you insist on talking to everyone.

The moon was high up in the sky by the time you two finished. Sai sighed in contentment “That was fun! Let’s save our progress.” He opened a new save file “Let’s name it after you since you helped me with this one.” He handed the console to you and you entered your name. He muttered your name to himself trying to remember it.

“I had fun too! Do you have more games like those?” you asked as he turned off the device.

   “Yep I do!” he answered

“Can I watch you play those too?” you asked with hope in your eyes excited at the new medium of storytelling you haven’t tried before.

“We can meet here tomorrow and I’ll bring a new one.” He said with a smile glad that someone seemed to be just as interested as him with games.

“Yay! I look forward to it. Same time?”

“Yes, I’m pretty busy with studies but I always sneak off at the end of the day to play.”

“Sure! Oh I didn’t catch your name.”

   “Sai…Sai Nanami.”

“Ooh you’re part of the family!” you stated in realization

Sai looked down bracing himself to the oncoming change of treatment towards him.

“Alright then, makes sense why you’re busy. All the more reason to indulge in your hobbies, right?”

Sai stared at you in surprise “You’re not going to…treat me like the staff?”

“Do you want me to?” you tilted your head along with your question.

   “No not really.”

“If you don’t want me to then I won’t do it easy peasy. Besides you haven’t scolded me like the Nanami adults when I get comfortable so I like you!”

Sai smiled at that “I’ll see you tomorrow then.”

“Let’s do our best with our tasks so we can have as much fun we could the rest of tomorrow.”

   “I will!”

You two waved each other goodbye and went your separate ways. When Sai returned to his room, he rushed to his collection of games and looked for ones that he would think that you too would like. He knows you two won’t be able to play multiple games for one day but it won’t hurt to have options especially for someone who’s new to games such as yourself.

Sai sat through every lesson the special tutors his father hired for him his mind occasionally to you, very much excited to play with you again. He could already imagine what your reactions will be in certain parts of the story in games that he brought along with him.

You were done with your daily lessons and was now following your mother assisting her at everything. Normally you would be excited to read in the library, but right now you’re looking forward to what Sai has in store for you.

Your mother stopped in front of large doors and asked “Are you hungry sweetie?”

It would seem that Sai got a little overexcited and was at the gazebo an hour earlier than what they agreed. As he waited, he decided to finish the homework that was given to him, which he’s sure that’s a grade or two higher compared to his age, especially the ones in mathematics. But nonetheless he still finished it too fast that there’s still so much time left.

A tap to his shoulder broke him out of his thoughts. He turned around and saw you behind him holding a box. “You’re an early bird huh.”

Sai took a glance at the clock on the console “You’re early too!”

“I skipped my visit at the library since I was looking forward to playing with you.” You held out the box to him “I even brought us some snacks.”

He took the box from you and saw a set of delicious looking cupcakes. The sight and smell has him almost drooling. “My mom had me learn how to bake today. Pretty cool right? I can cook us snacks whenever we want!”

“Yeah!” he took one and took a bite “It’s good! I’m surprised they let you in the kitchen since we’re a little young to be in there.”

“Oh my mom said something about me having the skills for the family. I don’t really care I can make my favorite snacks from now on! If you have requests you can ask me. I don’t mind a little challenge.”

   “You sure?”

“Of course1 We can enjoy the games more with our favorite snacks.”

Sai pulled out a chair next to him and invited you to take a sit. “We’re early today so we can play more games.”

“Do you usually finish up at this time?” you asked as you took the seat next to him.

“Usually, I just proposed to meet up at that specific time yesterday since I thought you were busy up until that time.”

“Oh I was just reading books at the library that’s why I was on my way home quite late.” You explained

“You don’t mind skipping your library visit for our games?”

“I was more excited for our time than going to the library! Don’t worry about it.” You reassured him.

He booted up his laptop that has the game he wants to show you. “Let’s get started then.”

And so the two of you enjoyed the game up until the dark of night. When you two finished up, he looked down a little disappointed.

   “What’s with the look?”

“I’m just a little sad that time flew by so fast.”

“There’s always tomorrow so cheer up!”

The tomorrow for Sai has been bad. Piles upon piles of activities from multiple tutors, tests after tests to gauge the level of his mind to plan future lesson plans, pop quizzes upon pop quizzes all fell at the same day. The amount of workload almost had him crying from exhaustion with the thought of hanging out with you the only thing that has him pushing through.

Why do they insist on him being a genius, he just does whatever they make him do. He just wants to play games and learning about them. He’s not a genius he’s just a kid who wants to hang out with a friend.

Before the last tutor of the day could get to his study, he stormed off to the garden and hid in the gazebo which you two dubbed as your headquarters. He just want to relax his mind and what better place to do it other than the place where he had the most fun. Sai pulled out one of the new games he got to escape the tiring world he lives in.

He made a considerable amount of progress when he heard you approach him. He looked up to you and the sight of you smiling at him holding new snacks you presumably cooked for the two of you has washed away the fatigue he was feeling. He felt warm and soft. If only he could feel like this all the time, maybe he won’t be as stressed as he was.

Sai still felt a little bit tired but did his best to hide it from you, not wanting to ruin the fun you two have at a set amount of time each day. “You’re here! Looks like I was too excited and got here early again.”

You smiled at him and offered him a brownie from a batch that you cooked. He devoured it as a growing boy would and went through the routine you two got used to.

He happily played an old game he told you about and let you watch and read everything, excited to share one of his favorite games. He may still feel tired, but he felt much better spending time with you.

When you saw Sai that day, you could tell that there was something wrong with him, you were about to ask him what’s wrong but the bright smile he greeted you with had you doubting your judgment. As much as you’re concerned about him, you trust that he’ll tell you whenever he’s ready.

The first hour of you two playing were just like any other day with you invested to the game’s story with Sai enjoying himself playing the game in general. But midway in the game, the game’s progress stopped. You looked at Sai to see what’s wrong.

Sai was asleep. He fell asleep sitting down in the middle of a game. Your suspicion about him not being well seemed to be correct. Sai falling asleep when playing a game is just unheard of. You touched his forehead to check his temperature. Thankfully he’s just resting and not sick.

You adjusted yourself closer to him and gently guided his head to your shoulder. You couldn’t resist petting his fluffy hair so you did as you adjusted his head to be more comfortable on your shoulder. When you ran your hand through his head, you heard him hum in his sleep. You decided to keep running your hand through his hair massaging his scalp a bit to help him relax.

When you felt him stir, he suddenly sat up and looked around. When he saw you looking at him, he turned his head down. “I-I’m sorry.”

   “Hmm, what for?”

“I ended up falling asleep. Sorry we couldn’t play today.” He looked at his laptop that was now folded shut, most probably by you.

“Sai,” you put your hand on his shoulders and met his eyes “There’s nothing to be sorry about, I like hanging out with you we don’t have to play games to have a good time.”

   “Still”

“It’s okay to be tired. We have our own responsibilities there are definitely days that’s gonna be draining. You would understand when I say I’m tired and couldn’t play right?”

Sai nodded. He wouldn’t want to push you even when you’re tired. “Same goes for me. If you were tired I wouldn’t want to push yourself.”

You gave Sai a big hug “Take care of yourself ok” He would wholeheartedly return the hug realizing it’s what he absolutely needed that day.

With your words and warm hug he will get through the next day with ease.

He will get through the next day with ease.

His tutors definitely didn’t want to make anything easy for him. The aptitude test they made him take the previous day had helped them make a new lesson plan for him to nurture his mind. And him being bombarded with new material throughout the day all day tired him out even more.

He felt so tired, he wanted a hug from you to calm and relax him. He know you told him that he should take a rest if he ever feel tired, but right now he just wanted to be with you. He’s much more relaxed with you. And so he decided to meet up with you at the gazebo. But before that he needs to power through today’s lessons since he already skipped a few lessons before. Best to behave lest he get a personal scolding from his father.

After the day, he headed straight for the garden without a game on hand. At the gazebo, you were sitting in there with a book in hand. You did say that he needs to rest but as a precaution you stayed there in case Sai insists on hanging out with you. And just as you had expected, you heard his loud footsteps as he ran towards the gazebo.

You quickly took a seat at the sofa to make him sit there too in case if he were to fall asleep. When he entered, it’s pretty obvious that he had another long day but you can’t help feeling something strange feeling you felt at the knowledge that despite being tired, Sai at the end of the day always wanted to hang out with you.

Sai did something you didn’t expect; he ran towards you and hugged you. You may be surprised but you were more than happy to return the hug. You’d be happy give him all the hug he needs whenever he needed it.

You made him sit next to you and decided to do some light chastising “Care to explain on why you’re not resting especially when you obviously went through another long day?”

Sai took a while to answer too shy to say it “I…I really like it when I’m with you. I feel like I can be more myself and be comfortable.”

“So you’re saying you can relax more when I’m with you?”

Sai blushed “W-well when you put  it that way…”

You giggled at how he’s flustered. “Then we just need to hang out much more often.”

   “But how?”

   “I have an idea.”

While you and your parents were having dinner, you decided to break the news to your parents “I wish to be Master Sai’s personal maid.”

Your parents halted their eating as soon as you uttered those words. You swear if they were drinking something they would’ve done a spittake. All of a sudden your parents burst into tears.

“Waahhh! I knew you’d come around my daughter! Did you finally realize the Nanami family’s generosity and decide to serve them?!” your father sobbed

Your mother was tearing up containing her excitement. Yeah your parents are weird.

Your parents were quick to work on the arrangements and by the next day, you were awaiting in front of Sai’s room with a senior maid ready to inform him that you are to be his personal maid. The senior maid found it appropriate to start you with helping him prepare for his day. If you could manage that, you will be ready for the rest. It’s a good thing your parents put in a good word for you and the training your parents put you through proved to be useful.

The senior maid knocked at his door and you two only entered when he invited you in. You mimicked the posture and behavior of the senior maid before entering.

“Master Sai, allow me to introduce you to your personal maid.” Sai was still in his pajamas but the sleep in him was quickly washed away when he saw you.

“It is a pleasure to serve you Master Sai.” You greeted in the same tone as how the senior maid talked to him.

“I leave him in your care.” You bowed and the senior maid left.

Once she was out of sight, you dropped the act and hugged Sai good morning. “What are you doing, w—w-what’s going on?!” he pulled away from the hug and looked at you in the eyes.

“You said you’d be more relaxed when I’m with you so here I am!” when Sai continued to gape at you, you continued your explanation. “Besides, you strike me as someone who forgets to take care of yourself, might as well do it myself.”

“You didn’t have to do that. I promise I’ll take care of myself you don’t have to serve—“ you shut his lips with your finger pressed to his lips.

“Shush shush, I have something to get from this too. More time with you means more time for us to play, am I right?”

At that Sai felt relieved. He’s glad that you’re not doing this only just for his sake and didn’t see him as burden. He’s very happy to be with you more. He realized that nothing has to change between you two just how you act in front of others. He’s happy with this he’ll try his best not to be much of a responsibility for you.

“I’ll be in your care but in turn you’ll also be in my care. Let’s be there for each other when we need it.”

“That’s the plan!” you said fully intending for it to be the plan. You decided to cut the moment short. “As much as I wanted to be all sappy, we’ve got a day to conquer. And there’s no way that I’ll let you be overworked like last time. I’ve got your back.”

“Up, up, up Sai! I need you bright eyed and energetic today!” you barged into his room with the loud bang of his gigantic doors basically being kicked open. But Sai stayed in his bed hoping to pull in a few more minutes dreading the day to come.

You walked to his window and pulled the covers open letting the sunlight do your job. Which it did since you heard him groan but when you turned to him, he pulled his covers over his head.

“I fully know how you don’t wanna talk with your dad, but avoiding him won’t give better results. Up,” you tugged at his covers but Sai held onto it. “Up!” you tugged again but failed to take it off him. The strength of a young man like him sure is something you can’t beat, considering the mandatory PE lessons of his.

You grabbed a pillow and hit him with it “Come on! You need energy for dealing with your dad and you need breakfast to get that energy.”

   “Five more minutes” he drawled

Oh, that is a very common phrase when he’s guilty of something. You halted your pillow assault and place your hands on your hips. “Don’t tell me you stayed up late again coding away.”

   “…”

   “Silence won’t help you here.”

Sai took the blanket off him and laid on his back looking at the ceiling. You could see the gears turning in his head. You don’t really know the details of what the Nanami family is pushing onto Sai but you don’t care about that, your only concern is that Sai is clearly being squeezed dry because he’s seen as a genius. You did your best to lighten his workload by handling anything that he’s not required to do.

You sat at the bed beside him and consoled him by petting his hair. He may deny it but you could see him visibly relax whenever you do it, and he never really pushed you away. You petting his hair like this reminded you of the time you first did this when you were kids.

“Come on Sai, I prepared your breakfast this time.”

He held your hand and sat up. “Hey, if we were to hypothetically go to a different place how would you feel about that?”

“Hmm? Is your dad sending you somewhere?”

   “…yeah.”

You were a little suspicious with his strange behavior. It’s not exactly something new, he would get bad days same as when you were younger, but this time it feels a tad different. You would think later on that and just decided to answer him “I’ll go anywhere with you, you’re my best friend.”

You felt him squeeze your hand before sitting up and looking at you. You could tell Sai wanted to tell you something but decided to hold back. “If it’s your breakfast then we need to hurry, every hot meal of yours should be savored appropriately.” He said before heading to his bathroom and going through his morning routine.

‘Sai, I don’t know what you’re planning but I will be there for you to the ends of the earth.’ You pledged your silent promise you held in your heart for your friend.

Sai is not one to care for appearances so you but he was a very handsome young man being able to pull off a simple button up and a pair of slacks that and his messy hair just finishes his charm. “What?” Oh you were staring at him.

“N-nothing just making sure your fly’s up.”

Sai sputtered “Wha-pfft that was one time!”

   “In front of a CEO.”

“We agreed not to talk about it!”

You ignored his complaints and led him out of the room. You two were at the front door about to go out when you saw Sai pause. “Sai—“ he was already running back to his room.

   “I forgot my bag!”

You two were outside walking towards the garden. Sai got used to just following you around that it took Sai a while to realize something amiss. “Uhm,” Sai turned his head from side to side double checking if you two are indeed outside “This isn’t the way to the dining room.”

“It’s gonna be a long day so why not start the day on a good note.”

The garden gazebo, your safe haven with him since childhood, came into view and he caught a whiff of his favorite foods prepared on the table. You pulled out a chair inviting for him to sit. “Get yourself settled, I’m off to fetch the coffee it’s most likely done brewing by now.”

“Thank you.” He said looking at you with a soft expression. You fully expected him to pull you in for a hug. Instead of the warmth of him against you, you felt warmth on your forehead and you realized he was kissing your forehead.

He’s never done this and you liked it, but the kiss somewhat felt like a farewell kiss. Just what was going on?

“I’ll be back.” You went on your way.

Once you were out of sight, he quickly opened his laptop and went to the payment confirmation of two tickets but ultimately only paid for one. He wants to be with you but he can’t just make you go with him. He could ask you, but he concluded that you would talk him out of this decision.

You were quick to return with the pot of coffee walking to the gazebo. You tried to call for him but he didn’t respond. You walked near him and caught a glimpse of what was opened. You had a feeling but seeing him actually planning to leave made actual sense. Who wouldn’t wanna leave if they were in his position.

You figured that he didn’t want to make you come with him since he never mentioned any of this before. And that would explain his strange behavior. To get his attention, you tapped his shoulder and as if in reflex Sai quickly closed his laptop.

   “Ah y-you’re here.”

“Watcha doing there?” you asked curious if he’ll tell you.

Sai then donned a worried face and looked down at the device looking at contemplating again if he should ask you to come with him. But before his mouth could say something he’ll regret, he shoved a whole bun of bread in his mouth and he literally bit more than he could chew.

You rushed to his side and did your best to stop him from choking. After that debacle, you kept a close eye on him as he ate making sure he chews thoroughly. He was of course embarrassed by the display but he’s more than happy that the subject has been dropped.

“You should eat with me. You definitely made enough for the both of us.”

“Ah, I’d love to join, but I already ate earlier before doing my chores and all.”

Sai handed you a cup of coffee while he sipped at his. “I wish we could eat breakfast together, no worries about chores or anything just us.”

“I’m sure that day will come. We can talk about it later if you want.”

His reflection on the coffee stared back at him. Maybe just maybe “We should.” That time could be closer to the two of you. So as you busied yourself with the empty dishes, he quickly opened his laptop and confirmed for two tickets. You could just give it back to him if you’re not up to it.

Relief went through you when you saw determination in his instead of the downtrodden one he bore earlier. You caught him about to eat another of the bun “Hey! Break it in pieces! Can’t have you choking again!”

“Yes ma’am” he shrank embarrassed and quietly pinched it apart. “Master Sai.” The senior maid interrupted your time together.

“Yes?” you asked thinking she was here for you for a new task. But her gaze was directed at Sai who was already on his feet packing his things. “I’ll see you later then.” He said following the senior maid presumably to his father’s office.

“Good luck.” You whispered out at him. You assumed that since he was already out far that he wouldn’t hear you. But he turned around and waved at you. You waved back and sent him a flying kiss as your version of his forehead kiss earlier. You may just be imagining it but you think you saw smoke erupted atop his head. He ran to catch up and he was now out of sight.

Once you were done cleaning up at the gazebo, you were left with some free time since most of your work involves him in it, but since off somewhere for some important business, you were bored.

You thought back to what you saw on his laptop and remembered him paying for airplane tickets so you did what any responsible maid would do. Pack his things for him, and as his personal maid you packed yours too but when you were in the middle of packing yours, you remembered how Sai seemed reluctant to bring you along considering how he asked you in a roundabout way.

The more you think about it, all clues point to him planning on running away. Well if that’s what he wants to do then you’ll just have to stick to him to take care of him. No way you’re parting with someone like him. You’re coming with him whether he likes it or not. You promised to take care of him as a friend not as a maid.

With the thought of you two running away in mind, you packed things that you two would need and ones you would not want to part with. Especially in Sai’s case you packed what you’re sure he would want to bring with him and took out an empty bag for him to fill to his heart’s content.

You may have worked too fast in the task that you had nothing to do again. Sai did say you’re free to play any games all you want. He did tell you that visual novels don’t have much difficult games in it so you went for that and played your time away.

On Sai’s side, he just came out of his father’s office. They went over details on how he’ll do his job as an actuary for the company discussing all the work that he had to do. He understands that working is a part of life and that he couldn’t do what he loves as much as he wants, but he knows that the family, the company would just work him to the bone. They’ll only see him as an asset and not part of the family.

Him hearing everything that’s been planned for him ever since as a child made him feel like he had no control of what he wants. You could say that this conversation is the final nail in the coffin for him. He’ll leave this place and do what he loves. Sai rushed to his room to pack but when he got there, he sputtered in surprise when he saw packed luggage and bags prepared in his room.

“Welcome back Sai! I prepared everything for you!” Sai looked at each of the luggage and as expected you packed everything he would need and some more.

“H-how did you know I was planning on—“

You placed your hands on his cheek squeezing it causing his lips to pout and silencing him. “We’ve been attached to the hip as your maid that I’ve got a pretty good read on you.”

His hands took hold of yours and just held it. Of course, why would he even worry about that, you’ve always supported him through and through “I’m glad.”

Abruptly pulling your hands away from him, you pulled out your own luggage and presented it to him “I’m ready to leave whenever you are.”

   “So fast!”

Your laughter filled the room very much excited for what the future holds for the two of you.

A bag was handed to Sai “Pack whatever I missed since we’re not gonna be returning here anymore.”

Quickly, Sai went to work packing some extra books and games. It pains him to part with his other games but he figures that he could just get them again much later.

“So when are we leaving?” you asked as you watched him pack

“I picked a flight where we could leave as soon as possible. And the tickets I bought leaves at 4 am.”

“Ooh, early morning where it’s dark! Perfect for running away.” You agreed with a thumbs up.

Sai was too busy trying to decide what to take with him that he only noticed that you were gone when he wanted your opinion if he should bring a specific game with him. When you weren’t there to answer he decided that he would bring it along. After all, it’s the very first game you two played when you two met.

He made the right call setting up a separate bank account a few years back. Simply running away won’t do and settling in another country is going to be expensive. He was able to save up his allowance—which was too big for him to spend dry—and that will get you guys in a more comfortable situation after that looks like you two will have to work.

When you returned to his room, you rolled in a food trolley with a tea set and a bunch of baked snacks you made. You also picked up packaged snacks for your oncoming trip.

“Have some tea. Your meeting with your dad must’ve been taxing if you were so determined to leave.”

“Thank you.” Sai took a sip and set it down “You sure you packed everything you need?”

   “Lock and loaded.”

“Looks like it’ll be the waiting game from now on. We leave at two in the morning. You never know what obstacles might hold us back from going to the airport.”

“Roger sir! I’ll be sure to prepare breakfast by then.” You teased

“N-no! You don’t have to do that you’re not my maid anymore!”

“But I’m still your friend and as such I will make sure we two have a healthy eating schedule.”

“Is eating at two am healthy?”

   “…Light snacks then.”

Waiting for the time to leave was both the longest and shortest time for the two of you. But needless to say your wait was finally over with you two trudging through the darkness of the halls. With a mansion as big as theirs, an empty hallway is unheard of. So you two are now on a quest to sneak around guards and housekeepers that are still wandering around.

Sneaking in the dark would’ve given you two an advantage, but with your luggage…you looked back at Sai who was lifting up a bag of his he dropped…yeah.

Fortunately you two made it to an employee exit at the back without a hitch. Heading to the gate, you two have to pass through the garden and saw the gazebo. Sai walked up to it and just took it all in. “I’ll miss this place.”

You held his hand and said “I would too.”

Sai squeezed your hand making you look at him who was looking at you with soft glowing eyes “Let’s find our new gazebo out there again.”

You pulled his arm and hugged him “We can find our gazebo anywhere when we’re with each other.

   “Yeah.”

Morning greeted you awake. Stretching awake, you noticed that you woke up ahead of your alarm yet again. Looks like your built in body clock is not something that would disappear despite not having that lifestyle for a few years now. Good thing today’s your turn to cook so you’ll take advantage of this time to also cook lunch for the both of you.

As you got started to prepare everything, you can’t help but smile at where you two currently at now. A comfortable life that allows you two to enjoy your hobbies in perfect balance with work. You two now have a place to separate from your work environment.

You couldn’t be more thankful that Sai planned ahead and was able to get you two a place as soon as you two got here. So now you two work so as to not squeeze yourselves dry and it’s a job you’re content with. You got a job at a nearby hotel as a housekeeper, which was a cake walk considering its size is nothing compared to the Nanami mansion. While Sai took to teaching math at Nanami University.

Speaking of which, he arrived in the dining area hair still tousled and eyes still half closed “You’re early.” He said preparing your caffeine fuel for the day. You couldn’t help but giggle when you saw his face morphed from sleepy to lively when the scent of coffee permeated through the whole apartment.

Sai probably stayed up late again coding away, but him actually sleeping instead of staying up all the way to morning is a step up. But at least he could do it whenever he wants now.

While you were busy with breakfast, Sai took notice the lunch box you haven’t finished packing “You made us lunch?”

“Why not? I had a lot of time earlier so I whipped something up.”

Sai reached for the cupboard and handed you plates where you plated your breakfast, and since the actual box of the lunch box is on your side, you handed it to him and he got to work on packing it. The two of you walked towards the table at the same time handing each other your respective plate and lunch and sat down taking big gulps of your coffees.

You two were too busy filling your stomachs that you couldn’t talk to each other after a while. “How are your students? Still the teacher heart throb?”

He choked in surprise and gulped the rest of his coffee to push it down. He coughed a bit before saying “I’m far from a heart throb. They probably just like me because they could understand my lesson. Which is good.”

“Oooh, a clueless heart throb, people go crazy for those. It’s the humility.”

“I’M NOT A HEART THROB!” he insisted earning a laugh from you. “H-hey!”

“How’s that one girl who asked for tutoring?” you asked finishing your plate of breakfast.

“She doesn’t ask me anymore. Besides I’d rather code than tutor. Though something strange did happen.”

   “Hmm?”

“She came up to me and tearily told me she has a boyfriend now. But when I told her I’m happy for her she suddenly bawled!”

   “Looks like she was infatuated.”

“Thankfully her boyfriend was there to comfort her.”

You laughed at that “Come on Sai she clearly had a crush on you. Just accept that you’re good looking.”

“I hope that’s the last encounter I’ll get like that.” Sai’s phone alarm rang “Oh I have to go.” Grabbing his bag and heading out.

   “You got your laptop?”

He hugged his bag to his chest smiling in embarrassment, “Come on that was one time.”

   “Take care on the way.”

   “You too.”

Sai departed after that. You went to fetch your lunch but was surprised to see two of them. Looks like Sai forgot them, well that is no surprise. You two normally eat out for lunch. But you think bringing lunchboxes is something you two should practice sometimes.

Thankfully, the university is at the same direction to the hotel you work at. You’ll just take it to him, after all it’s his favorite food for lunch. You haven’t been to the university yourself so you were completely lost.

“Uhm excuse me.” You asked someone who is hopefully a teacher “Are you a faculty here?” just as a precaution

“I am, can I help you?”

“Do you know Sai Nanami? I’m looking for him.”

“Oh him!” the professor—you assumed—pointed to the roof. “He usually goes to the roof before classes.”

   “Thank you very much.”

Unbeknownst to you, a lot of attention was on you when you mentioned you were looking for him and continued to be clueless as you went looking for him.

You took a peek at the roof and when you saw him sitting there, laptop open, keyboard clacking fully focused and he does it with a smile on his face, enjoying himself.

   “Strong signal up here, huh?”

He flinched and turned to you with one of those charming expressions of his. “You’re here?! What brings you, aren’t you going to be late?”

A lunchbox was placed in his hands which calmed down their frantic movements. “O-oh, my bad.”

“Don’t mind it, in fact let’s have lunch boxes more often so we won’t forget.”

“That’d be nice.” He agreed smiling at you. And now that you’re looking at each other, you two couldn’t help but just look at each other with the wind messing up his hair. You reached up and fixed it for him you cooing when he leaned his head to your hand.

“I’m off now. Have a good day at work.”

Sai grinning from your visit, “Thanks for the lunch, take care.”

When you left, Sai packed things up and headed down to the faculty room, he did his best to ignore everyone’s stare but it was bothering him to have all these attention to him, “What is it?”

The guy you asked earlier spoke up “Someone was looking for you earlier. We’re curious if she ever found you.”

“Oh, yea she did. I forgot my lunch back home so she just brought it to me.”

That’s news to his coworkers, they never knew he lived with someone. They would love to ask more about you but their first period was about to start so they just dropped the subject and went to their respective classes. All but one.

“She’s so nice making something for you and even bringing it to you at that.”

“Yes, she’s always been caring most especially when we moved here. But she’s been like that ever since the start.”

His co-worker smiled at the sight of Sai’s face that’s full of adoration as he talked about you. Reminds him of himself. “Take good care of your wife in return.” He said before leaving.

   “I will!”

   …

‘Wait, did he hear that right?’ he was now sweating bullets.

“Uh, sir could you repeat that?” but he has already left “W-wait she’s-uh-“ Sai tried to explain but he was the only one left in the room. “She’s-“ he covered his mouth t hide his now red face. “Did it look like that? What would she think if-“

Sai buried his face in his arms his mind now filled with images of you and the times you were affectionate with him. ‘She’s special to me, but is it that kind?’ he thought. Now that he thinks about it you two have been living together and has been living in domestic coexistence.

He wouldn’t mind being your husband. The two of you being together like that…Sai slapped himself ‘Stopstopstopstopstop’ he chanted to himself. He grabbed the day’s material and reviewed it for the lecture to keep his mind off things.

“Oh you’re later than your usual time clocking in.” the hotel manager stated her observation.

“Ah, Sai forgot his lunch this morning so I brought it to him. Wouldn’t want him going hungry. He has a tendency to forget to eat because of work so I have to keep reminding him.”

“How adorable, working hard for the two of you. It’s a relief knowing someone is taking care of you.”

“Yep, I think of inviting him for a game night since we both have a day off tomorrow.”

“Take it easy for today, we don’t have much traffic so you can have more energy to spend with your husband.”

   “Yes ma’am!”

You were then left to your devices folding the newly washed linens but you paused in your activity when you realized what the manager referred to Sai as.

“Did it look like that?” you asked yourself hugging the folded linen to your chest feeling butterflies in your stomach at the thought of Sai and you being spouses. Looking back, your situation is very similar to the books you’ve read before where the characters are portrayed as married. Very similar. Though ultimately, being with him forever isn’t something you’re against. The promise you two made to be together sounded like the promise childhood friends that would end up together by the end of the book is similar too.

You two went by the day as you usually would, except this time you two can’t stop thinking about each other with everything in sight reminding one of you of the other.

As Sai was eating the lunch you prepare, he is then reminded of what his co-worker said. And now he can’t think of anything else but you and how you two have been together for such a long time that you might as well be married. Sai admits that this is something he’d have to discuss with you one way or another.

When he calmed himself of these thoughts, his attention was caught by one of his students—the girl you claimed to used to have a crush on him—and her boyfriend. The girl creeping up behind her busy boyfriend and surprising him with a hug made him remember one time where you did something like that.

He was digging on the game files of a game in his laptop just poking around and you sneaked up on him from behind and hugging him but you held a wafer to his mouth which he happily ate.

Sai smiled to himself looking back at the fond memory before going back to eating your cooking. He sure is blessed to have you with him even all the way out here.

On your end, you were at the lobby of the hotel cleaning up the waiting area where you see a man busy with his work juggling piles of paper. You could see that he was starting to get more and more agitated with whatever he was working on. You could only hope that the man would not blow up on the staff.

But your worries were relieved when a lady entered the waiting room calling out to the man. The moment he lifted his head to look at the person calling for him, the man’s expression morphed from irritated to one of adoration happy to see the woman.

You were reminded of Sai’s warm eyes every time he looks at you. The most recent one was when you two were on the roof of the university. You declare yourself guilty that you’re hoping for him to feel the same way. You’re gonna have to talk with him. What are you two, really?

It may have been a long day, but it was far from tiring. When Sai dismissed his last class, he let out a stretch and sighed in satisfaction. It’s work but not as tiring at what he used to do. Sai happily packed his things in the staff room.

   “Excited to go home?”

“Huh, oh well yes, not that I don’t like it here but I would prefer the comfort of home.”

“I feel you. I always get excited to go home to my wife too.”

Sai went stiff and started blushing “H-h-h-huh?”

“My wife is my home haha! You agree right.”

“Well I do feel at home with her but she’s n—“

His co-worker belted out a laughter “You’re always the one closing up the staff room, I’ll do it this time.” He took the key from Sai and handing him his bag pushing him out of the room “Say hi to her for me.” He slammed the door to his face basically telling him to get out of there.

“But we’re…”  Sai couldn’t he can’t admit it. It makes him sad to say that you two aren’t together like that. He doesn’t want to deny it.

He stayed silent on the way home trying to think of a way to bring up the subject to a conversation naturally but he doesn’t really want to scare you off. All that thinking made him lost track of time and he was now home. As soon as he entered the apartment, he smelled something delicious and saw you busy preparing the table.

   “Oh welcome back, dear!”

His face went fully red, were you cooking for him?! “Y-you don’t have to do that!”

“Huh, but today’s my turn to cook.”

“RIGHT MY BAD! I forgot.” You looked at him confusion apparent to your face “I’ll just be in my room!” he rushed all the way there locking himself in.

‘The hell are you thinking about, she’s been doing that since we’re kids!’ he slapped himself again ‘Get. Yourself. Together.’

You watched him as he rushed off. You sat down and buried your face in your hands. Was you calling him ‘dear’ a bad call? His reaction was…was he flustered or something else.

The two of you decided to busy yourselves to get your minds off of the encounter. Sai working on his laptop and you finishing up dinner. You focused too much on cooking that you finished up much faster than you usually do.

   “Sai! Dinner’s ready!”

You waited for a response but when there was none, you figured he must be busy and didn’t hear you. Walking towards his room, you knocked on his door waiting for a response and got a muffled hum, his usual way of inviting you in when he was busy.

Before you go and drag him out of his room, you decide to check if he’s busy  or busy busy. Slowly opening the door, you peeked in and saw his dark room only illuminated by the light from his laptop. You pulled a chair and sat beside him setting your chin on his shoulder watching what he was working on.

It was all gibberish to you, lines and lines of code you couldn’t recognize. You looked at him at work. People really do get more attractive when they’re serious or passionate. But as much as you wanted to just appreciate his looks, his eyes indicate that something was bothering him.

You placed your hand on his halting his typing. “Is something wrong?”

“AH no just thinking about something my co-worker said.” When your face twisted into worry he was quick to follow up with an explanation. “I-it’s nothing bad just a food for thought.”

   “If you say so.”

Sai could loudly hear the doubt in your voice so he just decided to tell you half the truth. He held your hand that was still holding his. “I was just thinking how long we’ve been living like this, being with each other. I was just thankful that we’re there to take care of each other.”

“To think we’ve been attached to the hip since our childhood.”

“I still find it the best thing ever when you decided to go with me.” He said looking at your eyes. Sai is someone who would always pull away from you when your faces got too close, but when he faced you, your chin still on his shoulder had the two of you now only centimeters apart.

You two looked into each other’s eyes for who knows how long. But what you do realize that when his eyes travelled to your lips you were now slowly leaning into him with him mirroring you. And you two were suddenly plunged into darkness. Your would be kiss was interrupted with the only source of the dim light in his room, his laptop, went into sleep mode.

Sai quickly opened the lamp at his desk and stood up. “Let’s go eat.” You didn’t get to see his face as he walked out. He was worried and he didn’t want to see your face and reaction from his bold move. That was too forward.

Dinner was quiet. You two eating in silence. Every time you tried to look at him, his eyes are down just looking at his food “Sai?”

He flinched preparing himself for some scolding. He chewed and gulped his food and slowly looking up meeting your eyes. But every time he looks at your eyes he’s reminded of his attempt at kissing you. “I’M SORRY!” he blurted out. He almost smacked his face on his place with how he’s bowing.

A hand reached for his chin guiding his head to sit up. He whimpered in relief seeing your soft smile. Sai touched the hand that was now on his cheek your thumb rubbing at him.

“Ease your mind, Sai.” You stood up and walked over to him and hugged his head to your chest burying your lips in his hair, making him feel your soft lips on his heads although faintly.

“Why don’t we watch something after dinner? We can talk more if you want.”

Sai hugged your waist to him and buried his face in your stomach “That’d be nice.”

That’s how you two found yourselves chilling in the couch watching the first thing you two bare found interesting with volume way down low. You two just wanted something playing on the background while you two address the elephant in the room.

To make sure that Sai is reassured that you don’t harbor any hard feelings, you made yourself comfortable leaning against him and hugging his arm to you. Your usual practice whenever you two spend some down time.

Both of you may be looking at the television, but you two are hyperaware of each other’s presence. You decided not to say anything until he himself is not tense as he is.

Once you felt him relax against you a few minutes in the movie, you decided to kickstart the conversation. “Sai, even though I told you that I don’t mind what happened, I have a feeling that you still feel guilty about it.”

“I read the room wrong and almost made you…” you leaned your face towards him and closed your eyes similar to what you did back in his room.

“This was the face I made back then, what do you think this implies.” You asked your eyes still closed. Sai stayed silent and since your eyes were closed, you couldn’t see how Sai is taking all of this. You stayed in the position telling yourself not to move nor open your eyes until you get a semblance of a response from him.

A hand ghosted over your cheek. Curious to see what’s going on, you opened your eyes and it widened in surprise when you felt his lip on yours. He looped his arm around your waist pulling to him and the other hand is on your nape deepening the kiss.

Once the shock of the situation wore off, you were quick to return the affection you’re receiving. Running your hands through his hair caused him to hum against your lips. The vibration of his voice seemed to be amplified as you felt it throughout your body.

Wrapping your arms around his neck, you pulled him down on the sofa with him hovering over you. It’s impressive how you two never broke the kiss. You two enjoyed the exchange of kisses that you two were now breathing heavily as you two gazed at each other.

When Sai made the move of going for another kiss, you made yourself comfortable kicking the thing that’s been poking at your leg. But when you did, the tv turned off and you two were once again in the dark.

“My bad, I kicked the remote.”

Sai chuckled before sitting up pulling you along with him. He hugged you to him, the tightest hug you’ve ever received with him. You basked in it burying your face in his chest.

“You’re free tomorrow, right?” he asked his tight hold on you not letting up.

   “Yep.”

“What do you say we go out tomorrow?”

“Like a date?” you looked up at him excitement written in your face.

   “It’s a date.”

You giggled “We skipped a few steps before a date huh.”

He touched his forehead to yours “Did we?” he not only asked to you but to himself. You two were definitely closer than what friends would be. But as much as he would love theorizing about it, he would much prefer living in the now, with you in his arms holding you like how he always pictured it.

“What do you want to do tomorrow? I’d prefer something down low. One where it’ll be just us and nothing else.” You proposed

“We haven’t shopped at the mall in quite a while. We can also just walk around parks.”

   “Let’s do both.”

The two of you did your night routine together not wanting to leave the other even for a moment. Brushing your teeth together, washing your faces with you correcting him on the proper order.

It occurred to both of you that this is something you two have been doing for the rest of your time together. And you felt relief that not much has to change between you two. You two now are just more open about your affection for each other and not shying from skinship between you two.

The two of you kissed each other goodnight before going to your respective rooms. Sleeping at the same room might be moving a little too fast that and the fact that your beds are twin beds so it’ll be difficult.

Lying down on your bed, you stared at the ceiling recalling the intimate moment you shared. You covered your face with a pillow and squealed into it. You relaxed thinking of what you two are gonna do in the mall tomorrow. You thought of different scenarios that could happen until you dozed off.

The delicious smell of breakfast greeted you good morning. You sat up and stretched letting out a yawn before standing up and getting yourself ready. By the time you got down, everything was already prepared and Sai was already sipping at his coffee.

Looking at him, he’s more energetic than ever. “Finally got a full night of sleep?” you teased sitting down.

He smiled shyly at that “I want to be there for you all day without getting tired.”

You placed a kiss on his cheek and ruffled his hair “You’re too sweet.”

With that you two ate your fill gathering energy for the day to come. Soon after you two are at the door putting on your shoes. When you two are out the door, you practically were hanging on his arm with how tight you’re holding onto him.

You doing something like this with just the two of you is fine, but you two walking around like that definitely has him blushing. Public display of affection isn’t exactly his specialty. But hand holding and something like this he can learn to get used to. It’s just all new to him. But you’ve been with him learning something new all the time so having you here also has him feeling at ease.

The mall just opened a few minutes before you got there so it was the perfect time for the two of you. The shops don’t have that much customers too so there are no long lines visible just yet.

“I don’t know where to go first. What do you think?”

You looked at him and he looked down shyly twiddling his thumbs “I was thinking about looking at recent releases of games here. So if we could…you know…”

Before he realized it, you were already pulling at his arm. “Let’s go! It’s been a while since I’ve seen you play new games.”

“That’s not a lot.” You said looking at the small bag he’s holding.

“I’m planning on buying PC parts for my dream PC.”

   “That’s our next destination then?”

“I am planning on going to the bookstore.”

   “Off we go.”

Sai was now hovering over you his hands ready to catch you “L-let me get some of those at least.”

You two walked out of the bookstore with a bag bursting with books. “Let’s split it at least, your poor back.” He fretted

“I’ll rest up when you look at pc parts. Go on I’ll catch up.”

Sai furrowed his eyebrow and took half the load off you. “You don’t have to do everything for me anymore. We’re here for each other, remember?”

The determination in his eyes has you relenting. “You’re right. Old habits die hard I guess.”

He pecked at your lips all of a sudden “Let’s give you new habits to overwrite the old ones then.”

The PC shop was not a place you’re familiar with. So you mostly stick close to Sai, not wanting to cause a ruckus in here. You two walked around the whole shop, Sai observing everything with a meticulous eye. But when he started heading for the exit, you found yourself even more confused.

“Hey, I thought you were buying, uh…” you looked around “stuff”

“Oh, I just checked if they had everything I need stocked. I’m planning on buying them later.”

   “Why so?”

“My room doesn’t really have enough room for a PC build of my standard. So it’ll have to wait til I manage to free up some space in my room.”

You were silent after that thinking through some things, “Why not put it in my room?”

“Isn’t our room the same size?”

“Well if we were to sleep in the same room, we can transform the other one into some form of office. We can keep our collection of books and games there. Smart right?”

“You…want to do that?” you nodded enthusiastically “Are you sure.”

“I’m the one that offered, so of course it’s a yes.”

Sai took your free hand and kissed it with as much affection he could muster. You could feel he want to do more but to maintain decency in public, he controlled himself.

What he failed to control though was his behavior similar to that of a kid in a candy store as he bought everything he needed. Outside of the shop, you’re not the only one lugging around a big bag of shopped items. Except for Sai he had a lot of boxes he carries around.

“Why don’t we take a break and have some lunch?”

“Nice! I l know a place a friend recommended she said they have a discount all week long.”

   “Now that has me hungry.”

Your bags sat at the other side of the booth as you and Sai sat together happily munching on lunch.

Sai let out a sigh of satisfaction finishing his meal the same time as you. As you two sat there letting the food digest, Sai asked “We should probably buy a bigger bed.”

“That’s true. Furniture shop after lunch then.”

“Excuse me, are you finished here?”

“Oh yes we would like to ask for the che-“ Sai couldn’t even finish when the waitress left. But as soon as she was gone, she reappeared just as fast holding a bowl of ice cream.

“Ice cream for the couple, it’s part of the promo along with the discount. Today is the owner’s anniversary and they would love to see couples flourish. I hope you two enjoy it.”

He was too shocked to say anything. You on the other hand was quick to dig in the sweet treat. You took a spoonful and held it out to him. You may have been his maid before but you feeding him is something he never expected to ever happen.

You reached out and squeezed his cheek, you couldn’t help it! His embarrassed face is just the cutest. “Come one, Sai. If you don’t want it then I’ll…” you slowly pulled the spoon away.

Sai took your wrist and ate the ice cream. He somehow got even redder than ever. Covering your mouth, you did your best to muffle the loud laugh you let out. He pouted at you laughing at him. He made a move as payback.

You felt your hand getting pulled away from your face. Sai was already kissing you by the time you realized what he was planning to do. The kiss didn’t last long just a short sweet deep kiss.

“Cookies and cream my favorite.” You tried playing it off but you when someone looks at the two of you, they would see tomato red faces.

The furniture shop doesn’t have a lot of staff walking around when you two got there. Taking advantage of the freedom, you two would lie down at every bed that interested you two. Thankfully Sai was there to keep you in line every time you had the urge of jumping and bouncing on the bed.

You finally settled down when you two found the perfect bed, a standard queen size. Sai claims that the bed frame was similar to one of the rpg he played before and you loved the softness of the mattress.

You two took claim of the bed you two liked by making yourselves comfortable. You bounced on the bed as he sat next to you. ”It’s real soft.”

“It’s even better when you lie down on it.” Holding his head, you gently pulled his head down to your lap and petted his hair.

“Yeah,” he had a good view of you and you smiling down at him has him smiling at you in return.

“E-excuse me, please refrain from lying down on the—“

“We’ll take it.” You two said at the same time.

   “Eh?!””

After finishing the purchase, it’s settled that it’ll be shipped to your place later in the day, which was perfect since you two decided to wrap up this outing. And so after a day of shopping, you are now on your way home.

The thought of you two lugging around your shopped items on the way home hasn’t occurred to the two of you. At your walk back the sun has already set and the whole street is now dark with only streetlights lighting the way. At the very least you two are near your apartment.

But with the weight you two are carrying around, you two decided to take a rest for a moment under a street light, much safer that way.

Both of you slightly out of breath but Sai is more so. “You got impressive arms.”

   “Linens can get heavy.”

You both just stood there catching your breath. While you two just stand there, you decided to bring something up. “You know, the hotel manager thinks we’re married.”

He looked at you in surprise “R-really?” he straightened himself and asked “What do you think about it?”

“We’re kinda are don’t you think?”

Sai chuckled at that remembering how you two have always acted as such. “Other professors at the university think so too. Especially when you brought my lunch that one time.”

   “Maybe in the future then.”

He snapped his head towards you with wide eyes. And there you were looking down blushing. “Definitely in the future then.”

Sai wrapped an arm around you pulling you close and you hugging his neck. Just as you two leaned in for a kiss, the street lamp you two were under turned off. You looked up and saw that the light bulb seemed to have burned out.

You laughed sadly “Well, that’s quite the coincidence.”

Sai refused for it to end just like that so he pulled you closer to him kissing you. His tight hold on you lifted you a few inches from the ground. He poured as much of his feelings as he could hoping it’ll get his message across.

In the future, and maybe not so far in the future.

You two stayed in each other’s arms kissing. By the time you separated, the street lamp came back to light. No words were exchanged after that, only soft looks directed at each other.

You two did your best to clean out your room as soon as you got home. You’d love to rest when arriving home, but resting on a new bed is much better in your opinion. Just as you two finished transferring shelves into your room, the new bed arrived.

You ran into a few obstacles when arranging the bed. As a maid, you don’t have experience setting up a bed frame just making beds. As for Sai, all his time went to just studying as pushed onto him and games. After reviewing the instructions, you two managed to power through the roadblocks and now a new bed sits in Sai’s room…you forgot, it’s not just his anymore.

You blushed at the thought. ‘Wooow, that’s gonna take a while to get used to.’

After that it didn’t take long to put in finishing touches in the room and now the room in front of you is something that you’re very pleased with. Both of you dived for the bed and just laid there.

“Let’s do the other room some other time, there aren’t that much important things to organize there. It’s mostly just entertainment stuff.” He said panting

“It’s an entertainment room that could double as an office then.” You giggled.

You shot up and quickly grabbed a towel and a robe “I’ll go take a shower first!”

“No fair! You caught me off guard!”

It was futile you already have the bathroom occupied. You couldn’t help but laugh at Sai when you saw him waiting at the door when you got out. Sticking your tongue out at him along with a wink you ran back to your room and got dressed in your night clothes. You opened up a book, reading while waiting for Sai.

When he returned to his room, he was greeted by a sight that made his heart clench. You were reading a book on your side of the bed waiting for him and a singular lamp giving enough light for you to read comfortably.

As soon as you noticed he’s in the room, you set aside what you’re reading and turned your attention to him. “Feeling refreshed?”

“Yep.” He walked towards the bed and sat on your side of the bed. “How about you, made yourself comfortable?”

   “Mm-hmm,” you nodded

“That’s good.” Sai eyed the lamp then to you and back to the lamp. Without saying anything, he reached for the lamp and turned it off bathing you two in just moonlight.

You thought that the light turned off by itself but saw Sai turning it off. You tried to gauge what he was planning and his glowing eyes under the moon as he looked at you has you feeling some type of way. Your stomach started doing flips when he leaned close to you and placed a kiss on your lips. At first it was just an innocent peck then he placed another kiss lasting longer than the last.

He repeated this method until the two of you are now lying on the bed basking in the warmth of each other’s lips not breaking apart for even a moment determined to feel the intimacy of the kiss.

You were too drowned out in bliss that you didn’t notice that Sai has dipped his head in your neck until you felt him nip at it, peppering kisses all over. He lifted his head and looked at you. Your glossy and half closed eyes spurred him to dive for another kiss.

As the night went on, the bed went through a milestone on the first night it was used. A passionate milestone none of you would forget.

One day, you woke up much earlier than you usually would, you have your body clock to blame for that. Normally you’d be getting up by now start preparing some breakfast. But the arm around you prevents you from doing so. You turned around and faced the person the arm belongs to.

You were greeted by the soft face of Sai. He’s always had a gentle look but his Sleeping face just emphasized it. You pecked at his lips and that got him to stir awake. He slowly opened his eyes and still half asleep, the sight of you beside him in the mornings made him smile. “Finally.” He mumbled

He has mentioned that you never failed to look ethereal in the mornings, you beg to differ. It’s like waking up to a prince beside him. You smothered his face with kisses. The barrage of affection woke him up fully and was now giggling and hugging you to him.

Sai went ahead and started to freshen up for the day while you managed to find enough time to prepare breakfast and lunch. It was only a light breakfast since Sai mentioned he needed to be early for the day. You followed him to the door.

“Have a nice day at work, dear.” You said handing him his bag.

“Careful at work for you too, honey.” He said before going in for a kiss. “I’ll see you later.” He said before heading out the door.

When you were about to leave for work, you noticed an extra lunch box in the kitchen. You giggle at that “Not again.”

Sai was at his desk in the staff room, organizing tests and papers when he heard a knock from the door. To his surprise, he saw you waving at him. He smiled happy to see you and quickly went to you.

“What brings you here?” he asked with a smile on his face ecstatic to see you so soon.

You handed his lunch to him along with a kiss. “Forgot to mention I made lunch.” you said booping his nose.

He took your hand and kissed it. “Thank you, your cooking is definitely my favorite.”

“Yours is m favorite too! We should bake together some time a big meal.”

   “I’d love that.”

“You’ll do amazing at measurements.” You teased.

You two laughed quietly “I’m off now, I’ll see you tonight.” You said with an inviting look.

“Don’t do that to me and this early too.”

You winked at him and took off. He sighed but finding himself smiling to himself. When he went back in the staff room, his co-worker never failed to comment on it.

   “Forgot your lunch again?”

   “Unfortunately.” He admitted shyly

“Ah you two reminds me of how my wife and I used to be when we were younger.”

   “Well we’re not married.”

He looked at his lunch and found a note attached to it. ‘Make sure to eat well, I love you.’

   “Not yet.”
