Work Text:
"Y/n make sure to turn off all the lights and lock the door once you're finished, okay?"
You sigh at your boss's request but nod in acknowledgement as he leaves the building. Tonight you had to stay late in your office to finish up some work. You never enjoyed it. The silence and loneliness throughout the building just made you feel empty and sad, sometimes it made you feel a bit overwhelmed, especially at night, but you had no other choice but to stay. Since you weren't gonna get out of here for a while now you reach for your phone to let your husband Norman Osborn know. You didn't want him to worry when he didn't find you home. Once the text is sent you put your phone away and continue typing tiredly on your computer.
—---------------------
Norman was just exiting the Oscorp building when he received your message.
"Hi sweetheart! I'll be at my office working for at least 2 hours more so dw if you don't see me when you get home. Ily! <3"
Norman stares at the phone a bit saddened. One of the mundane things that makes him happy is getting home from work and seeing you there. It never failed to make him relax after a long day. He enjoyed your presence more than words could describe. So hearing that you were gonna stay at work for that long made him sad and worried. By that time it would already be night time, what if something happened to you on the way home?
He turned his phone on and started typing.
"Are you the only one in the building?"
He waited for a bit until you responded
"Yeah, sadly :("
Norman frowns at that. The thought of you all alone working tiredly made his heart ache. Were you hungry? Did you even have food? Part of him thought he was overreacting but he couldn't help but worry.
Thinking over it he decided that it wouldn't hurt to keep you company in the meantime. Maybe he could even bring you dinner…
"I'll be there in about 30 minutes, okay?"

Typing seemed to become more and more harder for you as your head fell forward in exhaustion. Your eyelids feel heavy and your stomach keeps growling. You begin to drift off until a sudden knock on the main door jolts you awake. You frown at the noise. Couldn't the person see that the building was clearly closed for the day? Your initial frustration turned into worry. What if this person wanted to get in to do something awful to you? You slowly move to hide under your desk just in case. The knocking reaches your ears once again but this time it's accompanied by a very familiar voice.
"Y/n? It's Norman. Are you still there?"
You let out a small gasp and grab the keys running towards the main entrance. He's just standing there smiling at you with a bag on his hand. You smile back at him as you open the door and he greets you with a warm hug and a kiss on your head.
"Norman, what are you doing here? You should be at home by now."
"Didn't you receive my message?"
"Message?" You put your hand in your pocket reaching for your phone to check.
"Oh my God I'm so sorry I had to focus on working so I didn't saw it. What's in the bag?"
"It's dinner! Thought you'd want some since you weren't gonna get home soon."
The confession makes you feel warm inside. You loved these small acts of affection from him.
"Thank you so much! I'm genuinely starving. I'll eat it once I finish, okay?" You tell him as you take the food from him and put it on your desk.
He frowns in worry at your response. "That's no good for you. Taking a break is fine and you'll get more energy to focus on your work."
"I know but I really should get this done-" your words were quickly interrupted by a yawn coming from you.
Norman sighs at your response. He knew the feeling all too well but it hurt when it was coming from someone he loved.
"Y/n you can't work properly like that. C'mon, once you do you won't feel as tired as you are right now."
You were about to protest but the sound of your stomach makes itself known first. Feeling a bit embarrassed you decide to take up his offer. You walk towards your office and sit down to eat. When you opened up the take out box you were greeted by the sight of your favorite food. No longer taking it you start eating with desperation. The sound of Norman's laughter makes you stop for a second, realizing how silly you must look.
"I'm sorry."
"Please, honey. There's no need to apologize. I'm glad you're enjoying the food." He says tenderly and you respond with a smile.
Eventually you finish and you can feel yourself having more energy already. As you put aside the take out box Norman is quick to grab it and throw it away.
"..Thank you, Norman. I'm sorry I was so stubborn. I'm really grateful for the dinner, and your company in general."
He lets out a soft smile, satisfied that you're feeling better already. "I know what it's like, y/n. Wanting to put everything aside to finish as fast as possible.. I've done that, hell I still do at times. But you gotta remember that it's important to take breaks. You gotta take care of yourself and let yourself be taken care of as well."
His hand moves to yours, gently caressing it. You feel yourself relaxing at the touch. As if a weight you didn't know you were carrying has been lifted off your shoulders. Feeling overwhelmed with emotion you reach out to him and plant a soft kiss on his lips. As you pull away you see a faint blush on his cheeks and you giggle at the sight.
"Thank you, Norman. I'm really lucky to have someone as considerate as you."
He smiles even more at your compliments. "Oh honey, I think I'm the lucky one here."
It was nice having such lovely company in the lonely building. Working alongside the love of your life made it much more enjoyable. The fact that instead of going to the mansion he decided to stay with you made your heart flutter. Despite his busy work schedule he always tried his best to spend time with you.
"..Norman?"
"Yes, my darling?" He says while his chin rests on his hand, staring at you with pure adoration.
You turn to meet his loving gaze. "I love you"
He smiles at the words and moves to kiss your forehead. "I love you too, y/n."
