Work Text:

Izuku lost his first kiss to stupidity – pure and absolute stupidity. It wasn’t as soft or tender how he imagined his first kiss to go. There were no butterflies in his tummy nor was it the perfect date, it wasn’t even on a date at all.

His first ever kiss was stolen from him on the battlefield, Izuku had been confident in his own agility and feeling of his own body till then and there. It was a sunny day, no cloud on the sky and the cicadas were buzzing throughout the fields.

It was a day so unsuited to fight a battle, it should have been a day where he enjoyed the sun with his friends. Instead, he got send to the middle of nowhere, fields of green where his eyes could reach and in the middle of it a familiar white-headed figure.

He passively listened to the instructions of the other pro heroes, he was only there for backup and to play the bait. The bait for Shigaraki Tomura, his nemesis and the most dangerous man across Japan.

They were so far away from him, his white long hair swaying along in the breeze but was it his imagination or did they just lock eyes? No way, not from that distance but the toothy grin on Shigarakis face said otherwise.

Sweat run down his back, his danger sense started to sound loud and clear as Shigaraki, step for step, approached the group of heroes.

His teacher Aizawa-sensei put a protective hand in front on Izuku. “Stay back.” He activated his quirk and directed it on Shigaraki but he didn’t seem fazed. The confidence in his walk not swaying for a second. That was pure power.

Step for step he closed the distance, like a snake approaching its prey.

“Aren’t heroes supposed to play fair? Ten on one doesn’t seem fair to me.”, he said smugly.

“Someone like you does NOT deserve fairness, villain!”, one of the heroes said. Out of the nine other heroes alongside Izuku, Aizawa-sensei and the one speaking were the only ones not as affected as the others. Or they were better at masking the pure terror they felt.

“Whatever. I’m only interested in that boy – hand him over.”

The red eyes starred holes through Izuku, like daggers and he was their target. Aizawas grip on him got stronger, his hair defying gravity.

“I will get him either way, just give him to me while I’m asking nicely.”

Danger sense was losing it inside him, Izuku needed to move – he had to get away from there or he would pull the others into the mess. If he was the target, he needed to distract Shigaraki as much as possible for the other heroes to work properly.

“Eraserhead. I’m going to buy you some time.”, without waiting for the answer he started moving, activating his quirk, and directing it to his feet, he did what he would normally never do. Make a run for it.

Aizawa-sensei and the other were left dumfounded by the student’s action.

“That’s more like it.”, Shigarakis grin widened and laughter echoed through the wind. He was quick to chase Izuku, catching up to him in bare seconds.

How could he do that without quirk – the heroes were at a certain disadvantage; an open field left no room for hiding.

He had to fight back.

Putting enough distance between him and the other heroes Izuku turned around to face the villain.

“We don’t have to fight.”

Shigaraki stood there, unbothered almost bored.

“I know. I want to.”

With that the battle begun, a deadly tango the villain and hero in training were dancing and it was clear that it was Shigaraki taking the lead. Every step Izuku took was perfectly predicted and countered by Shigaraki, but every attack Shigaraki directed at him was evited by Izuku. Even if it was more so out of pure spite and a hint of luck. One hit and Izuku would die, that was certain.

He had to match the energy, go for the kill just as his opposite was doing – try and take the lead.

Izuku danced through a combination of quirks, assisted by the vestiges in his mind and there it was. A once in the lifetime opening, the fifth user screaming at him to channel his anger, his frustration into using blackwhip. So, he did.

Successfully so! He got a hold of Shigaraki, taking full advantage of his surprise.

“You got me there.”, he laughed sharply, “What are going to do with those tentacles now?”

How could he stay so calm in this? A mystery. What mattered now was Izuku finally taking the lead in this devilish dance. To his demise he was a terrible dancer with two left feet.

He will never forget what happened next, this will haunt him into the afterlife. Izuku stumbled over a rock, a stupid rock he didn’t see in the adrenaline rush coursing through his veins – he fell backwards and with him the entangled Shigaraki.

Out of shock he lost the control on blackwhip and with a thud he hit the ground and right on top of him fell the villain he was supposed to capture. Visibly shocked like he was Shigaraki had no control of his fall, smacking face first down into Izuku.

His lips hurt, and he felt something soft right on top of them – just as he had registered what happened the feeling was gone again, leaving him with aching and throbbing lips. Slowly opening one eye after the other he was greeted by a flustered (FLUSTERED) Shigaraki. Looks like he had blood on his lips – he was a mere inches away from his face, encaging his head with both of his arms.

The ground beneath them started to crumble but neither of them dared to move, the white and surprisingly soft hair tickled Izukus face, he would have commented on that if right now his mind wasn’t working overtime on the situation. The ground was decaying, the number one villain was right on top of him pinning him to the ground and ... they kissed? Was that considered a kiss? Their lips met and the red creeping up on Shigarakis face was indicator enough. It was a kiss.

His first kiss.

If Shigaraki decided to kill him now, Izuku would gladly take it instead of living through seven stages of embarrassment. “I- I- I’m so sorry.”, Izuku clasped both his hands in front of his face trying to hide from the shocked eyes of his nemesis, “You can kill me now.”

Nothing happened, no excruciating pain no screaming. Nothing. Hesitantly he uncovered his eyes just to see Shigaraki the same way he was before, baffled on top of him. The ground beneath them now cracking at rapid speed – till it just stopped.

The white haired raised one hand to his lip and then directed his gaze to Izukus, looks like he needed some more time to process what happened. Instead of trying to fight back Izuku stayed still, he stayed still when the gaze directed on his lips raised again to meet his eyes. He stayed still when the confusion on Shigarakis face slowly faded into something else. He stayed still when Shigaraki closed the distance between their faces once more - this time with less force and bizarrely with more care.

Izuku could have used that moment to defeat him, to win the upper hand he lost out of clumsiness and end the war that extends over generations. But his danger sense wasn’t tingling, he felt oddly safe.

Closing his eyes, he received a tender and uncertain kiss. It was as if Shigaraki was testing the waters, waiting for any sort of reaction on Izukus side. His response was meeting Shigarkis lips again and moving his lips against the other ones.

The ground started to shake again, just as Izukus heart was about to burst out of his chest a sudden explosion got them to stop and pulled them straight into reality. They were supposed to fight, not to make out - but making out sounded a lot more appealing to Izuku and seemingly for Shigaraki as well.

Everything after that was a blur, they got separated by an explosion targeted at Shigaraki – he moved away and evaded but the explosion caught Izuku, his mind was so occupied with other thoughts he couldn’t focus. And after that all lights went out.

Izuku woke up surrounded by people, his mind was still spinning but the uncomfortable cracked ground was replaced by a soft hospital bed. The sterile lighting only adding to his headache and as soon as he opened his eyes, he was bombarded with questions from left and right.

It was the grumpy and tired voice of his teacher cutting through the mixture of voices. “Midoiya how do you feel?”

Izuku raised his head to meet the concerned gaze of his teacher. “Only a headache.”

He grunted affirmative.

The next to speak was the hero with the explosive canon quirk. “I am so sorry! I should have never aimed at you while you were so close to the villain.”, she sounded genuinely sorry.

“No don’t worry about it.”, Izuku said and it was true, they always risked their lives fighting villains; stuff like this could always happen.

“Now that everyone knows he is alive. Get out of here.”, Aizawa-sensei shushed the group out of the room. With the closing of the door he sighted, he was just as tired as Izuku was.

“What happened there?”

A vague question, that could mean anything. Anxiety staring to gather in his stomach.

“I don’t know, I wanted to get him away from you - I was his target to begin with, I figured he would follow me. I thought I could buy you some time.”, that was the truth, it maybe wasn’t the best plan, and he would probably earn a good handful of scolding for it.

“You shouldn’t act on your own, you should know better by now Midoriya.”, Aizawa started, it looked like he was considering how to phrase the next part, “Were you aware that Shigaraki protected you?”

“Huh?”

“Bombardress the Hero, her cannon would have hit you the second time if it weren’t for Shigaraki stepping in and decaying the bomb midair.”, Aizawa stated.

“Are you sure he protected me? Wasn’t he just protecting himself?”, this was news to him. It would have benefited Shigaraki immensely for Izuku to die by the hand of another hero.

“Yeah, he turned around and put himself purposefully in front of the cannon. You were already unconscious.”

Oh. Izuku didn’t know how to take that information. Does Aizawa think he and Shigaraki are secretly on the same team? The blinding lights made it hard to think.

“Look Midoriya, I’m not accusing you of anything. I just wanted to let you know, if you have any clues on that then please don’t hesitate on speaking to me. You should rest now.”

A soft click and he was left alone in the room.

Alone with a lot of thoughts, and no one to interrupt them.

It was dark outside, the window to his left letting soft moonlight enter the room. He could hear walking and chatter outside his door – a hospital was lively all around the clock.

He tuned his face to the side and starred out the window. He lost his first kiss, not only that but he kissed him again. If nothing had stopped him – how far would he have gone?

Izuku was curious on how Shigaraki felt about that, he initiated another kiss - did he enjoy it too? Was it weird? Weird to yearn for another simple kiss?

He did think Shigaraki was pretty, a beautiful person despite the scars across his body – he had scars of his own – he was amazingly strong and shone brightly like a falling star. Why did he have to be a villain? He can’t possibly justify his growing feelings of curiosity and perhaps something like romantic interest in him because of one stupid kiss. Actually three.

Not having a preference in gender was a realization Izuku had long dealt with, so that wasn’t the issue - he had a tendency to crush on strong people, especially heroes. But villains were a new sentiment unknown to him. It was stupid, he never pursued a crush of his, not even on his classmates. Then why did the thought of Shigaraki kissing him again, caging him in with those strong and dangerous arms made him feel all hot and bothered?

Then and there, in his dark hospital room Izuku made the decision to be selfish, to satisfy his curiosity and to take a risk. HE run the risk of dying everyday and it was a miracle that he was still alive with all his limbs attached - he didn’t want to leave this earth with regret.

With a light heart he slumped back into dream land.

♣️

Shigaraki had been coped up in his room, not even Toga getting him out of his little safe space. He kept on touching his mouth, softly grazing his index finger over his lips – the place his met Izukus lips. The overall confusion subsided yesterday, after a lot of confused and frantic google consultations, Shigaraki concluded that he liked kissing the boy and that he would do it again if he could.

His first kiss getting stolen, because the universe didn’t fuck him enough already - AND that snowballing into a whole sexuality crisis wasn’t how the fight was supposed to go.

Several buzzfeed quizzes later he came to the conclusion that he was gay (and a dominant Omega apparently – curiosity made him discover what the omegaverse was) which fine, wasn’t the worst thing happening. He kind of expected that, but yet again Love never played a role in his life. The bigger problem was the small might copy being his gay awakening, it deeply hurt his pride.

He just couldn’t walk up to UA and ask for Midoriya. “I just want to make out with him. I will return him unharmed at 8pm.” As if they would let him even get close to the student.

Enough time was spent on mopping around. He needed to leave the room and maybe get some good, yummy food. Food sounded amazing and fresh air did too.

Slipping out of his room with the same sweatpants and hoodie he wore for the  past day, he sneaked out. Luckily no one was there to see him, or better said to annoy him.

It was colder than he thought, already regretting not taking a jacket with him, the sun wasn’t shining instead the sky was lined with clouds looking ready to spill their water. Shigaraki went through the alleyways so familiar to him, through tiny passages filled with trash and other stuff.

Another corner and he would have made it without hindrance to his favorite ramen place, he spoke too soon.

With a swift push, Shigaraki found himself pressed against the cold bricked wall, eyes gaping wide in surprise. No one valuing his life dared to pull a stunt like that. Who was the fucker disturbing him in his own district?

Instead of a thug he found the person responsible for several of his meltdowns in front of him, Midoriya Izuku looking up at him with his huge green eyes.

“Do you have a death wish?”, Shigaraki looked down at his nemesis, he looked determined and the same amount of anxious. Almost hilarious, he had no problem fighting that kid again.

“Yeah, I probably do.”, the little hero said, “Kiss me.”

Excuse me? Did Shigaraki hear right, was his mind trolling him right now? From the look of it, it was true, the smaller boy slowly closing the distance but still waiting for any sign of reaction from Shigaraki. His forest green eyes were glued to his lips and the way Izuku slowly licked over his own was oddly inviting.

“I think you have lost your mind.”

Izuku hummed but closed his eyes, waiting and putting way too much trust into the villain’s next action. Shigaraki perhaps for the worst, wanted to play along and indulge in this short-lived nonsense.

He pressed his lips against the soft and warm ones of Izuku, he honestly had no clue how kissing worked – he knew what he saw in movies but that didn’t help him at all. Deciding to do whatever felt good was his better bet and he got rewarded with little hums and gasps from his partner.

The Midoriya brat almost seemed drunk on this kiss, pulling Shigaraki down on his shoulders for easier access, his rough hand buried in Shigarakis unkempt hair pulling him further down. It was the kid being brave or suicidal, but he was clearly taking the lead in this kiss, moving his lips against Shigarakis and gingerly introducing his tongue into the play. Shigaraki did his best in matching the rhythm.

Izuku was the one to pull away, and with dazed eyes he looked up to Shigaraki, his lips were swollen and his freckled skin way too red. Adorable, Shigaraki thought.

“I- uh...”

A smile spread on Shigarakis face, “Where did all your confidence go?”

Midoriyas face turned a few shades darker, how was that even possible? He started to sputter and mumble incoherent messes.

Shigaraki laughed; this was just too ridiculous of a situation not to laugh. In a dirty alleyway, with his nemesis that he should obviously be killing right now but no, instead here they are making out and be awkward about it. Well, he can do whatever the fuck he wants but isn’t Midoriya supposed to be a hero and arrest him?

“I-I have a proposal. You can decline if you want to.”, Midoriya said with newfound determination, admirable, “I ... uh like doing this with you.” He emphasized everything with a lot of gesticulation or maybe it was the nerves getting to him.

“So... how do I ask that without sounding creepy? Would you like to continue that?”

Shigaraki blinked and blinked again. Mini might himself was asking him to continue whatever this was, saying that he liked kissing him. Before his brain could catch up his mouth was already moving.

“Yes.”

The way his green eyes lit up like stars – mesmerizing – before Shigaraki felt two warm hands cupping his face and pulling him down into another kiss.

“I have to go now before they notice I’m gone. Here, you can write me whenever.”, Midoriya said only millimeters away from him before slipping a piece of paper into Shigarakis hoodie pocket.

Shigaraki was at a loss of words, that kid was insane, maybe more so than himself.

A small peck was the last thing he received before Izuku walked out into the busy street, waving goodbye, and then disappearing.

That brat was wasted on the hero’s side.

♣️

Endless screaming filled Izukus head, nothing more than screaming – maybe it was the vestiges screaming for him to get some rationality back or to get a therapist. Probably both. He was running on the treadmill for maybe an hour straight, there was no way he could stay still right now while waiting for a text. Would he even get a text?

This whole thing was so stupid, he could Detroit smash himself in the face! Not only pursuing his number one nemesis no, stalking him and kissing him in an alleyway out of nowhere. Sometimes he doubted his ability to be a hero. Every time he thinks about the victims of the war, people losing their homes and his friends getting injured because of the LOV he should feel bad and guilty, but why was it that he felt nothing of that? No – he wanted Shigaraki and maybe he wanted him for the crimes he did, for the fact that it was so forbidden yet gave him so many butterflies.

This whole mess was triggered by him falling over his own legs.

Maybe it was a good thing he never learned how to dance.

His phone ringed.

“You are seriously crazy. I like that. When can you sneak out again?

-Your favorite villain”

Notes:

The inspiration for this was basically the one sasunaru sceene where they smash their faces into each other and kiss for the first time. I just love awkward Shigaraki and what I love even more is selfish Izuku - let my boy be free and date his villain!!
This will probably be my last contribution to the sgdk week or maybe the fanfic goddess will bless me with some more creativity let's see <3
